Thinking of giving Dr. Z a second chance. Had the M12. Good amp but sounded a little bit glaring and i wasn't much satisfied with gain pedals. The Carmen Ghia seems to have the same qualities, right?
@AdamGotheridge8 күн бұрын
I haven't tried an M12, and am not really sure what you are going for either. Ghia has a 12ax7 and the m12 the ef86, one difference that might be notable, like pushing those two tubes with pedals, they really react differently, like the 12ax7 distorts and compresses at lot faster where the ef86 kind of takes more volume push and output that push in more volume instead of compressed distortion (to me), and they distort a little differently. The Ghia, assuming the non master version like the one where), is pretty clean at low volume and gets some hair on it pretty quick as the volume goes up, so if you are looking for a lot of clean headroom, maybe it's not the amp for you. When it gets to distortion levels, it's not like a Marshall distortion, it's something else. I think the amp sounds very musical and good, but it's different from say vox/marshall/fender sounds.

@@AdamGotheridge I got one of the mark I as well with the open 212. Do you feel like the MV is useful at all? I have to run it through a ARACOM attenuator right now for it to not get me arrested even in a pretty open suburb.
@AdamGotheridgeАй бұрын
@@MintStiles I’m sure it would be useful to help get different tones at lower volumes, but they aren’t going to sound like the really cranked sounds where the power section is contributing. I really like this amp clean in a 2x12 open back, and it’s pretty loud there too, but it sounds so good there that I don’t want to mess with it and have other amps to do more gain anyway. It would be useful to lowering the amp a little without disrupting the channel 1/2 balance though. If I really want to play the amp balls out, I can always use the captor x for recording too. So, i personally just haven’t really felt the need to get the master mod. Just sharing my thoughts there, and the next person could think just the opposite.
@MintStilesАй бұрын
@@AdamGotheridge thank you sir! That's what I have suspected as well. I was thinking the master mod (and variable tone stake bypass) sort of works if this is your only amp that needs to do it all. But the point of these is to push the power section a bit anyhow. I am pretty happy with using this one with an attenuator. In conjunction with your take, I think I'll just keep it that way.

Thank you for taking the time to put together the video Adam. Lots of work. Great gear and demo. @46:00 thereabouts you nailed it with your review. The Gibsons have more uumph and we're used to hearing Gibsons on the original tracks including the quirks. The Sire was more accurate on the figerboard but a lot less push. It's a Larry Carlton Cursaders blues guitar for all intents considering he inspired the L7 and the genre he normally plays. And would likely fare better on a recording for being more consistent on changes up and down the board to where tweaking the sound is almost limitless. The Sire definitely falls under a well constructed guitar for $600 that looks like a Paul for those on a budget. Which was Larry's plan.

Most welcome! I think your comments hit the nail on the head. For me personally, I haven’t been playing it much. Currently mine has emg’s in it and I’m not sure if it’s that I don’t like those pickups, or maybe them in that guitar. Functionally, the guitar is very sound though.
@dragongoffАй бұрын
@@AdamGotheridge Of course, you have two of the real thing. Wild guess Larry voiced the pickups so it would sound like his style. The L7 comes across to me like a cross between a Paul and a 335. How he was able to do that is a mystery considering how many pickup winders there are and for decades it's been a crap shoot of what pickup in where. The 335 is not just for jazzers. Van Halen started off with one and IIRC he used one a track. And though there are many artist inspired guitars, IMO, to his credit, Carlton was able to make something where the artist succeeded in making the guitar sound like his sound.
