Tones from a DR Z MAZ 18 and a Tele

Demoing sounds with my DR Z Maz 18-NR2 and a Tele.
Signal chain is guitar - Boss CE2-w - amp - Royer 121 mic - WA412 mic pre - Drawmer compressor - RME UFX3 - OBS. Nothing in post (no eq or anything). Compressor is lopping off 2 db at peaks according to its metering.
Longer story -
Guitar - recently tried to remove most of the lacquer from the neck and fingerboard and went from 10's to 9s. That combination made the guitar way more comfortable to play. It has a huge neck and that stuff helped out a ton.
Amp - purchased the amp from Sweetwater in 2019. Haven't played it in a while and recently took it out of a headshell it was in and put it in the combo that it came with which has the stock g12h30 Celestion at 8 ohms.
Anyway, was playing it in the room and have been really super happy with it and this video is my best attempt to share that sound with anyone who might be interested.

Thanks, it's a great amp and when you pair it with a telecaster, it really kind of grabs the sounds of a cranked up ac30, but at a reasonable volume. I really like the amp, but if that X-Ray turned out like I think it did, that would be the one to get if you ask me. No regrets on this amp though. I also have a Maz38 and while they share some characteristics, they sound very different too. I think they are the same preamp, but the power section being different makes it quite a different amp. That might sound silly, but the sound/tone of the Z amps is very much in what how he marries the sound of the whole amp working together to create a sound.

@@AdamGotheridge Thanks for explanation . At the moment I use a Fender Supersonic 22 with Celestion V30 speaker . It's great for practice but the sound of the Z amp is that dream sound that's touching on perfection 🎸 . Definitely on the wish list .

@@-Atmos1 Nothing wrong with your amp for sure, but yes, they are all different and have their pros and cons. For me, I want this sound exact, and then I want to hit a pedal and it sounds like the splawn with a Les Paul into 4x12, but that's not going to happen without switching amps and guitars. I do think this amp is great at showing what I showed it to do here. It's really fun to play and isn't too loud, but loud enough for almost anything. It's just a good amp in general, and particular for these types of sounds.

thank you Adam, very nice demo and playing! I never really played tele's until recently, and now I am wishing I had been. Recently had one made (well assembled) and just wow! What pickups? Fret wire? Tuners? all Stock?

Thanks Joe! I never really got along with tele's, but learning they are a lot of fun. Lot's a sounds in a simple setup. And they are funky! The guitar is stock. Got it at a Sweetater Gearfest in 2014 for $1500. It was at the end of the day and back then you could just make an offer on stuff in the bargain tent. This the exact guitar www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Tele52CCMNDKR--fender-custom-shop-sweetwater-special-52-telecaster-dakota-red-closet-classic
