Dr. Z X Ray prototype testing effect loop with a TC Electronic Flashback pedal

Short clip testing the fx loop on an X-Ray prototype amp with a TC Flashback pedal.
I think a lot of people know this pedal and maybe think of it as a bit of a "soul-less" delay pedal. I was more than pleasantly surprised at how good this pedal sounded in the loop of this amp, like just full of color an vibe. Like it's not just a cheesy fx loop at all.
I was just running through the different algorithms on the pedal starting with the first position 2290 setting. Also, that tube screamer isn't on, one mic on the cab, and nothing in post.
Hope you find it a little helpful!

Nice demo of the X Ray's E/F loop. I must say it is an excellent loop.

I obviously concur. It blew me away to be honest.

Glad you demo a Strat , has that Hendrix tone in multicolour . The amp sounds warm with effects loop , no loss of tone . Great style of playing .

Funny you mention the Hendrix thing. I have 3 Strats, this one is from 65 tuned down 1/2 step and it always has some kind of a Hendrix vibe to me when I pick it up. As for the loop, I generally never bother with them, but if I had this amp, I would for sure. Maybe some day! And yeah, just because and amp has a loop doesn't mean it sounds good.

@@AdamGotheridge I like tuning to E flat too , the tone of the guitar is closer to Solfeggio frequencies , whereas , 440 Hz is the furthest away from natural frequency . The amp sounds great , it has warm harmonic presence , must be the valve configuration .

@@-Atmos1 I will look that up and agree about 440 bad. I think I just figure out what the hum is my furnace in the basement and tune to that. ;) It's a little flat off a B and drives me bonkers because even if I'm in tune, I'm somehow out of tune with the life around me. Cheers! 🙏

@@AdamGotheridge Jimi Hendrix tuned to E flat , I like the slightly slinkier feel it gives to string tension as Fender guitars' scale length is longer than the Les Paul 24.75" standard . Interestingly , Frank Zappa tuned his guitar to the resonance of wherever he was playing , which makes sense . The resonant frequency of the space you play in is relevant , Cheers 🎸

@@-Atmos1 Super interesting on Zappa. I'll give it a go one day and if that fails, I'll set the tuner to 417hz and maybe that's the golden spot. ;) Thanks for the info!

Does this thing have a nice bloom to the low end in the room? Great little demo, sounds really nice

I don't know if I would call it bloom, but it has a big, round low end to me. 🙏

How did you like the WGS Retro 30 in the combo compared to the head you’ve tried in past with other speakers? Trying to decide what to load into an empty 2x12 for when my X-Ray head arrives next week.

I recorded this quite a while ago, maybe last June. At the time, it had Celestion gold in it which I thought sounded fantastic the combo. I also tried in a 4x12 with V30's and g12h30's and thought it sounded fantastic in that cab too. The head version I was playing in the other video wasn't really this amp, but it had that name at the time. That was in a 4x12 greenback cab, but kind of irrelevant. If I can guess at a suggestion, I personally really like the combo of a v30 and g12h30 which might be something to try, particularly if you have those lying around. To me, together they kind of take the worst parts of both those speakers and balance them out somehow. And of course congratulations on the amp, and I hope you love it. I haven't heard the final version, but I'm sure it's great.

Royer 121 about 5-6 inches off the cab near the center of the speaker.
