Maybe try the sle101+ instead, or I think they also make some repos for 335's that might be worth looking at. I must say that I think the pickups in my L7 seem pretty good to me.

Thanks! Looking back on this now, it's funny how similar they are. I ended up putting the custom buckers in a 335 and they work well in that guitar and a pretty stark difference to the stock pickups that it came with.

@@AdamGotheridgeI like the new custombuckers Gibson has done the past few years. I strongly preferred the throbak neck pup here but the bridges were very similar. I am looking at this throbak set to replace MHS humbuckers in my 335.

@@AlexG-ok1zc It might be worth reaching out to the throbak guy to see what he might recommend for your 335. I'm not expert, and he knows a lot more than I. I will say they I think the sle-101+ are the bomb in the 2 Les Pauls I have them in.

Thanks. I thought I botched a ton of stuff at the end. Timing isn't real good in spots, missed quite a few nuances. I'll keep trying though!

They are extremely close in general feel/response/output. A little different in tone, but not enough to have the swap really make any difference. I like both, maybe the ThroBak's a little more. If I was pondering putting new PAF style pickups in a guitar, I would go for the ThroBak SLE 101+ plus model over the custombuckers. My leftover Custombuckers will probably wind up in a 335. 🙏

Nailed the Santana! How would that sound with the Custombuckers though?

Those pickups sound almost exact to me, like it wouldn't make a difference. And thanks, I felt like I could do a lot better, but maybe I couldn't. ;)

Hi Adam, again super informative! I think the Throback seem brighter, but not better? Just taste maybe. Thanks for sharing. Side note: I am needing a replacement neck for my tele. Any recommendations? Whoever did the fret job killed the top and bottom of the neck!!

I guess my take is the pickups are really in the same ballpark and you could tweak the amp a little and make them sound pretty much the same. This was my attempt to make it sound more like Brian's '64, but it just doesn't. I'm starting to feel like old guitars are worth every penny. Tele pickups - I've never changed them and really have no idea. All I know is old Gibson pickups/guitars kind of sound like fat tele's, and old tele's kind of sound like Les Pauls. Go figure. 😉

No, just kind of pointing out that I think the 101+ are great sounding pickups, and how they might differ from the custom bucker or 102b pickups. Basically I like the 101+ over the others, but was trying to point out the differences in the custom bucker and 102b which is pretty minimal to be honest. Kudos on the Remedy, love that amp.

The Gibson pickups sound like Amigo fives big round too much low end too much top end the Throwbacks sound like alnico 2's or 3's

I've never heard of the Amigos. Neck is A2 and bridge is A5, but to be honest, I have no idea what the different magnet alloys contribute to the sound. The pickups sound different, but not really radically so to me. The throbaks that I put in the Les Paul were drastically different from the stock Burstbucker 1&2's in there. I'll live with them for a while and figure out if I like them or not. Thanks

@@AdamGotheridge Sorry Adam. Was driving listening on bluetooth.. Talk text. I meant Alnico 5's. Alnico 2's and 3's have more midrange sound. My favorite is Lindy Fralin Pure PAF alnico 2's
