    Never really thought about how well this paired with a Strat for SRV stuff. Great video.

    @@AdamGotheridge I got one of the mark I as well with the open 212. Do you feel like the MV is useful at all? I have to run it through a ARACOM attenuator right now for it to not get me arrested even in a pretty open suburb.

    @@MintStiles I’m sure it would be useful to help get different tones at lower volumes, but they aren’t going to sound like the really cranked sounds where the power section is contributing. I really like this amp clean in a 2x12 open back, and it’s pretty loud there too, but it sounds so good there that I don’t want to mess with it and have other amps to do more gain anyway. It would be useful to lowering the amp a little without disrupting the channel 1/2 balance though. If I really want to play the amp balls out, I can always use the captor x for recording too. So, i personally just haven’t really felt the need to get the master mod. Just sharing my thoughts there, and the next person could think just the opposite.

    @@AdamGotheridge thank you sir! That's what I have suspected as well. I was thinking the master mod (and variable tone stake bypass) sort of works if this is your only amp that needs to do it all. But the point of these is to push the power section a bit anyhow. I am pretty happy with using this one with an attenuator. In conjunction with your take, I think I'll just keep it that way.

    Hello Adam! 😀I do! I used an IR... specifically, guitar direct to amp, amp to a warm audio di box which accepts speaker level input (WA-DI-A is the model number), that signal splits to a load which is a straight 4x12 in an adjacent room face down, and the di signal runs into a UA Apollo preamp with a Friedman Be-100 plugin, but all the amp stuff is turned off and I'm just using speaker sim which I think is #49 which is a model of a Marshall 4x12. I'm monitoring that signal through the studio monitors. Basically what that affords me is the ability to have the amp cranked and not kill my hearing, and still get a decent sound with a lot less trouble. To add to that, I've tried quite a few different load boxes/IR things like a Two Notes Capter, Suhr thing, and the OX box, but this setup seemed to sound better to me. I could also not record the plugin IR if wanted and then use any IR thing like the Two Notes Wall Of Sound, but I just go for the simple route and record what I'm hearing. Bottom line on that, if I used any of my 4x12's and messed around with a 57 and 421, I'd get that sound, and probably a little better, but it's really hard to do because the amp is really putting out serious volume. To that amp - basically it's a hand wired Marshall Plexi with 6v6 tubes instead of el34's. Part of that idea is to make that old Marshall sound more useable (100 watts on the Marshall to 40 watts on the Remedy), and also warm up some of that Marshall brashness by using the warmer 6v6's vs the EL34s. It's a killer idea implemented in a great format, but realize the amp is still in that holy shit loud territory where I was running it. I might also add that the amp just clean and even with hum buckers at reasonable volumes is a fantastic sound, and if you wanted, you could also have them mod the non master version like mine to the post phase master volume version they came out with later, if you wanted. My take on it is that I love it just the way it is and don't want to mess with it. Also might add that I've seen these things used for as low as $900 which to me is just a complete steal. I paid $1500 used for mine and it's everything I ever wanted out of a plexi type amp. It's the real deal, but probably better.

    Trying to decide between the Remedy and Antidote, any pointers between the 2 as I'll have buy on or the other 2nd hand and won't be able to compare. Maybe you could do a comparison in the same fashion as this?! Finally I will say this thing sounds outrageously good. Thanks!

  • @AdamGotheridge

    @AdamGotheridge

    Жыл бұрын

    The Antidote (kt66's) can go louder cleaner and has a bigger low end. Not flubby, but more like a subwoofer, something below the normal guitar range. Antidote feels in general cleaner, but it still distorts nicely when loud, and the vintage/modern switch is helpful, as is the eq bypass switch. You could say more options in the antidote, but the simplicity of the remedy is really hard to beat. Comparison video - I could probably get them to sound more or less the same, but it wouldn't be the same in the room, like one would be louder at that same level of distortion. They both sound great, but if I had to choose between them, I think I'd keep the Remedy, at least right now. And thanks for the comment. It's like 2 amps in one. Great cleans with the volume lower and then classic distortion at the higher levels. Like an old Marshall. Except this one won't break down. :)

    Hello Adam! Hope all is well! Would you mind sharing your thoughts on the Remedy vs the EMS?

  • @AdamGotheridge

    @AdamGotheridge

    13 күн бұрын

    Sure, and hello! Figure the Remedy is sort of Z's twist on a non master plexi, but with 6v6 tubes to somewhat make the amp a little warmer and less volume than say 4 el34's. I wish I had the master on mine because even if I'm playing it dead clean, which I really like BTW, I then sometimes want to knock that volume down a hair, and it's hard to do with keeping the balance of vol 1 and vol 2. Kind of like you can't really do it without changing the tone quite a bit. For me, it can stay extremely clean at say drummer volume or a bit above, but getting into the grind territory, it's really starting to get into the brutally loud territory. It's a fantastic sounding amp though. Has a neat "sparkle" on the top end. The EMS in general is a lot more versatile. The clean side is beautiful, maybe a little warmer or thicker than the Remedy, and you can dial in as much high end as you want, but it's not the same highs as the Remedy. The 800 side has a lot of flexibility too, like you can leave the gain down pretty low and still be pretty clean with grit on say a strat. Keep in mind it's a really powerful amp with a lot of headroom. There are some tones lurking in it at high volume that are just phenomenal to me, but they happen at absolutely crushing volume. In general, to me, the EMS sounds like an "older" amp. Like some of the old Peter Frampton tones with a les Paul are there in spades, and some of the trower stuff with a strat is there in spades as well. But again, at a really high volume. If I had to pick one, I'd try to find an EMS, personally.
