Thank you so much! I would love to see a video using humans explaining the blending modes!
Hi, my Auto ISO indicator is always flashing and it is distracting. I have tried many configurations but it almost always flashes. Why is this and is there a way to turn this off?
Unfortunately there's no way to disable that. It's the camera's way of telling you that it's choosing an ISO higher than your programmed minimum, just to make you aware it'll be higher. I've learned to ignore it :)
Would it lower the bit depth or effect the image stabilization?
Not that I'm aware of
@@PeltierPhoto Thanks bro.
WoW, you are the man!!! I have never seen anyone else explaining this feature. I guess 99.99% of Fuji users do not even know the existence of ABL.
One of my favorite features for JPEGs!
Thanks, that was extremely helpful
No problem!
Thank you so much. This is one video that accidentally popped up and it was eureka moment.
Glad to hear!
I have searched a lot but there is no one mention about the custom mode setting actually is not only 7 modes but for 14 modes. Yes, 7 for custom video modes and 7 custom for photo modes. Fuji's has a big issue to give a short cut to switch the video or photo custom mode. Only get into the second tier menu to make this change.
Seven modes for photography and seven for video is still only seven for photographers. Some Fujifilm cameras actually do allow you to quickly switch between photo and video custom settings by selecting that custom setting you programmed to be either photo or video, but you're even more limited in total settings. The X-S20 has four custom settings available and you choose whether each is for photo or video. So you only get four total, not eight. Same for GFX cameras that have six custom settings, you only get six total, but can quickly choose between photo or video.
I finally get more clearer in understanding this topic-Sectional chart reading. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome!
Great tutorial. I’ve been a Fujifilm user since the X-T1 and this is the BEST explanation of how to use Auto ISO with Fujifilm’s DR function. Bravo! To keep nice shadows without under-exposing I usually reduce my highlights rather than adjust DR. I might use DR more often because playing with highlights and shadows settings can give weird results. Thanks again.
Yeah great call. There are a couple different ways to crack that nut and they all have slight nuances.
Obviously there should be, across fuji cameras: (1) separate custom settings banks for (a) jpeg recepies and (R1-R7) (b) camera settings. (C1-C7) (2) Custom settings management should work like this: AUTOSAVE should preserve settings changes when camera is turned off. ERASE should erase custom setting to factory defaults. RESET should reset settings to those originally saved by user. SAVE should make changes made to custom settings permanent. @Fujifilm, it is not so hard!
It seems like it'd be an easy fix, but I think they're in too deep to acknowledge they messed this all up when they tried changing it a few years ago :)
@@PeltierPhoto I looked into Sony's system (still unsure if I want X-T5 with all its focus problems) and Sony is organized just as it should be: separate banks for jpeg recepies, separate banks for LUTs and separate banks for camera settings. Some are even bound to SD card, so - new card in, new camera settings. Wish Fuji would not that mush depend on enthusiasts who are willing to suffer :)
@@zigaturkfgg3716 yeah, the Sony system is better in that regard, but overall the Sony menus are absolute garbage and the cameras feel more like computers than cameras, which is why I switched from Sony to Fujifilm in the first place :) But...that's just my opinion!
I'm just an amateur. With a feeling for tradition and occasional need for faultless work/family/documentary photos. Thinking of having x-a5 for light business travels, x-h1 for nostalgic photography and Sony a7cii for family and work.
Excellent information and well presented, I agree less is more on multiple exposures, the modes explained showing the piano keys/music worked well
thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Brilliant explanation John. Thanks
You're welcome!
John, this video was very informative. How do you format the SD Card? In the camera? Say you missed a couple of updates. When you download the new update file, do you get all of the previous updates?
The Format option is in the beginning of the User Setting menu. Yes, when you download a firmware file, you get all previous updates up to that point.
@@PeltierPhoto Thank you
Is there any way to Add/Change picture ratings within the Fujifilm XApp? I'd like to be able to review and rate from my iphone or ipad screen, but i can't figure it out. Seems like an obvious feature, so I'd be surprised if it can't be done... Anybody else have any luck?
So if i have auto update DISABLED and if I make a few changes to the settings, reset does the same as turning the camera off and back on? Or are changes preserved after turning camera off and on?
Actually I am interested how x-t5 and x-t50 behave in this respect. X-s10 erases changes if turned off but does not have reset option.
If it's disabled, any changes you make will be reset when the camera power is cycled. That's how it works on the X-T5 and I imagine how the X-T50 will behave also. You only need to use the Reset function if you want to reset your changes without cycling camera power.
@@PeltierPhoto Thank you! This is really, really stupid of Fujifilm.
@@ziga1218 yeah, it was one of the primary reasons I switched to Nikon last year for my working camera system.
to do hyperfocus do the white dot need to touch the end of the bar, or only the blue bar need to touch the end?
Only the blue bar should touch the end. If the white bar touches the end, you're losing depth of field in the foreground.
You are the best! Thank you
You're welcome!
This is the most instructive and useful explanation about autofocus and cameras , I'm a phone repair technician and I really needed that , thank you very much sir
You're very welcome!
What’s the best way to get rid of blown out highlights without losing the info in dark areas?
There's only so much you can do in a single exposure. If you have a lot of contrast you need to do some sort of HDR blending with multiple exposures. Or try using the camera's DR setting.
Thank you so very much. I was having such a rough time with sectional charts questions during the practice test. Clean and simple! Thank you again!
Glad it helped!
great, thanks
WOWZERS thanks for breaking down 5:32. 🤦🏾. I was having a really hard time understanding how to find this answer and you made it really clear. I need to subscribe to your channel. Thank you again!!!
You’re welcome, glad it helped!
Just took my test this morning, Passed with a 90%. Thanks for the helpful info
Congrats!
Hi. Im still figuring out the settings here on X100V but for some reasons, only movie mode is not grayed out and everything else is especially image quality setting. How do I rectify this? I might’ve pressed something 😅🙏
Only Movie settings are available? Then you might be in the Movie Drive mode.
Thanks for this video!! I have Sunny AZ as C7 now!!
I love you! I was freaking out. My LCD was off
Thank you!
can you please help and advice how can i assign automode scene selection to a button in fujitsu xs20?
I don't believe it can be programmed to a button. Closest you could get to a shortcut would be to put it in My Menu.
@@PeltierPhoto when I go into FN settings to assign functions I dont know what is this automode option called in the select menu, perhaps it is not there at all?
@@asd7959 it's not in that menu and thus can't be applied to a button.
Great video for explaining structured keywords. I love Photo Mechanic for a lot of things, but as a stock shooter and editor who is constantly dealing with tons of keywords, I have to say setting up and maintaining a hierarchy in Lightroom is WAY easier and more intuitive than this. That said, if you are dealing with metadata (keywords, etc.) that is already embedded in an image, PM is considerably better than LR since LR works in a catalog space and not directly on image files.
When I’m on video mode, my ISO is always set to 800 and it cannot go below that as the values are greyed out? Is there a way to choose values below 800 when shooting video? I’m on Manual and have the dial set to C
Are you recording HLG or N-Log video format? That's the lowest you can go in those formats.
@@PeltierPhoto I’m recording N-Log. Ahh thanks! I was trying to find a way to lower the ISO for the longest time but I guess 800 is the minimum when shoot log
@johnpeltier Hello, thanks for great explanation) So basically It means that the RAW files are also getting smaller? what is the file size using compressed format with 35mm mode? Thanks)
Not sure what the file size is, I just sold my GFX equipment, but they are smaller.
Thank you much! Best explanation I have seen so far!
Glad it was helpful!
The f/stop concept also applies to full-power, 1/2 power, 1/4 power, 1/8 power electronic flash lighting.
Excellent 👍🏻. About to upgrade from an old XE1 to the XT5 and there’s a substantial amount of new info to learn 😅
Sounds exciting! Yes it's quite a bit more complex :)
With respect, 46.9 is exactly equal to 46-54-00 (no seconds), so why is one more precise? The precision is not increased when you convert from one unit (decimal) to another (min-deg-sec). Is 1.0 feet more precise than 12 inches? No.
It's not about the conversion, it's about reading the chart. Aeronautical charts are annotated in Degrees-Minutes. If you ignored that annotation and tried to read a chart using Decimal Degrees, you could be several miles off unless you used a chart plotter in the correct scale.
Great tutorial on something I didn't understand for decades while using my cameras
love this
I tried to use Yongnuo YN560 IV on my X-S20 but the flash settings, especially the commander settings are still greyed out. Any insight on this is greatly appreciated. I can use the YN560 IV on my X-T100 though. Thanks in advance.
My film simulation mode is greyed out in S mode, no auto settings applied - anyone have any ideas?
"S" as in Shutter Priority? I can't think of any reason it'd be grayed out then and not in P, A, or M modes.
Or.... don't use auto iso. 😅
...which is great if you're shooting in a stable lighting environment. Try that at a race track shooting vehicles moving at triple digit speeds through sunlit areas, areas in shade, or worse yet, areas that have both and Auto ISO rapidly becomes your best friend.
Great video. My brother is taking his test soon this will for sure help him. Your explaination and explaining is so much better then other channels trying to get you to remem, ber the question. Understading how to read the charts is your vidoes benifits for your followers. Great Job
Much appreciated, and good luck to him!
thanks a lot
Very good video man. Thank you
You're welcome!
Hi there When I take pictures outside they come out perfectly but when inside they are blurred. Do you know why this might be happening?
This only happens when the apperture isn't on auto but I can't figure it out
I'm going to assume that your shutter speed is set to Auto and when you go indoors to where there's not enough light, your manual aperture is too small and it causes your shutter speed to slow down to where you get blurry photos. But it's impossible to know without seeing what's happening. You can check out this Exposure Triangle course if you need more help: photocourses.link/et
I had a problem where the FOCUS MODE setting had the CONTINUOUS AF setting grayed out, leaving only the MANUAL FOCUS and SINGLE AF as possible choices. I could not figure this out but you hinted that auto choices could be the cause. I found the problem was in the camera shooting setting menu for IS MODE. If this was set for SHOOTING ONLY or OFF, the problem persisted, but if it was set for CONTINUOUS the problem went away. Quite a relief to have discovered this. Thanks much.
Hello, I have a Fuji film X-A10. I’m having trouble to where when I take a picture, a selfie, it inverts the final photo. But when I go to my settings, it says face detection is off. Do you have any advice on this ?
Sorry, I don’t have any experience with the A10.
Super helpful tutorial! Thank you!
