"Sponsored Content Creation" and Your Rights - A Case Study (Carson City to Canada Quest)

Ғылым және технология

The Carson City to Canada Quest is an amazing opportunity for two backpackers to earn $5,000 each for documenting a 1,600-mile hike-something I'd do for free!
But looking at and understanding the terms, if you're going to take the $5,000, you need to sell your soul.
If you're considering taking an offer where a company is giving you something of value in exchange for "content," be sure you completely understand the terms and the rights you're giving up.
This video will go over the terms of the Carson City to Canada Quest, which may be similar to other offers you've seen, explain what they mean to you as the creator, and offer alternatives to what I think would be fair.
Would you take the $5,000 after understanding the terms? Let us know in the comments!

Very well explained in non lawyer speak, excellent information. Too bad that all of the " I Agree" multi page scenarios on the computer theses days isn't in brief concise manner. Insurance companies in Canada had to change their contracts/, after major outcries , so that the average purchaser could understand the requirements & limitations

We've all be desensitized to these agreements, trained to just click "I Agree" or sign the thing to get going with it, without understanding what it says. Unfortunately this happens a lot with photographers entering contests and such, who don't realize they gave up all their rights after it was too late. Be like Canada and simplify it :)

This is not a good deal tbh. I would never do this for only $ 5000.-.

Is there a price that you'd entertain for a full buyout of three months' worth of media? Or, like me, just do it self-initiated and then see what you can license it for after the fact? Or, third, 1,600 miles is insane :)

@@PeltierPhoto well, I would do it for closer to 100K. It’s a long hike. Having to film and carry the gear is even harder. No thanks. 5000.- is a joke. 😳
