Outstanding. I never took the time to learn about that. My 100-400 has a range limter on it. How do the two work together or do they. Also can you have subject detection on? Thank you for this. Great video.

Oh that's right, I forgot to mention the lens switches! If the AF Range Limiter menu range and the focus switch range overlap, it'll use the AF Range Limiter numbers. So like if you set the switch to 5m-∞ and your AF Range Limiter is set to 6m-10m, it'll use 6m-10m. But if your AF Range Limiter is set to 1m-4m and your switch is set to 5m-∞, it'll use 5m-∞ (the switch), and the bar on the focus scale will turn red. At least that's how it works with my macro lens. I hope that makes sense! And it won't work with Subject Detection either.

You’re welcome!
A great tool if you’re doing a talking head shot and don't want the AF to flicker past or away from you. Great video. I’ve even used it for Run and Gun filming by creating a custom button. Thanks so much!

Another great use case, thanks for adding that!
Great video. have been going around and around in the manual [for nothing] then I found your video....... by writing range limiter..... my fuji camera is a X-H2s on the 150-600 mm fujifilm. My passion is Birds so will try this as soon as possible. thankyou.

This is the first video I have seen on the focus range limiter that mentions a way to tell from the screen whether it is enabled. That is worth the price of admission all by itself! I’m subscribing!

Welcome aboard! I’m still finding new things in these cameras all the time :)
Great video John, I've messed up too many photos recently with poor AF for one reason or another. I was aware of this option but simply forgot about it so your video is very well timed. Looking forward to trying it out now. Thanks for the reminder! I've also sub'd the podcast.

All the subjects that you're talking about, I never seen any of Fuji guys talk about it. I really like to see more Thank you so much

Thank you John for a very informative video. Your explanation of the focus range limiter function is clear& concise & easy to understand. I may use this feature for telephoto lenses in photographing sporting events to see how helpful it may be.😊

It can be very useful with those long telephoto lenses!
Another great piece of advice. I used it a lot on the XT4 for video, I found it helped it stop grabbing what was behind me at times, very handy. As someone who does mainly portraits I wonder if its worth me limiting the range, certainly I don't seem to do many infinity shots. I wonder how the AF performance will be boosted if I choose a sensible range to work with, 1-5m etc. Something else to try and report back, gotta love those custom mode dials on the XH2/S to allow for a quick experimental set up for something like this :)

Yeah, super helpful for video too! With a proper portrait focus technique, I don't know how much time it'd save, but it might just be one more thing to use to help out.
I can't understand why it can't work with Subject Detection since it can be limited from lens limiter. It should just change the range.
Hi, Thanks for this video, can i use this for shooting video ie for doing a focus pull, just wondering if this is possible. Thanks

Despite choosing AF-C or AF-S focus, can I rotate the focus ring? thanks you so much for your videos!!!

There is an option in the focus setting menu called AF+MF that allows you to rotate the focus ring for manual focus when the autofocus is engaged.
You just saved me from returning the xs20 for an a6700 after a video i shot in a field failed to pickup me or my dog at distance in af-c

@@PeltierPhoto Af-C was on but it couldn’t track me or my dog and kept hunting every 10 seconds or so. I spoke too soon though because I’m returning now for the zv -e1. The wobbling in DIS was too much for my hand held needs!
My English sucks, so I'm sorry in advance. If I understood properly, we could set one of those 3 customs ranges for focal hyperdistance and then just by selecting it, be sure that everything will be in focus, Am I right?

“Everything will be in focus” depends on a lot of other things, but yes, if you select one of the three, the camera will *try* to focus on something only in that distance range.
