  In there natural habitat they get much larger much quicker. I've seen some huge ones here in the sonoran desert.

  My grandparents gifted me a barrel cactus from their land in New Mexico, which is about the size of your biggest cactus there. I’m happy to add such an old plant to my small, but growing, cactus collection!

  Plant them in bigger pots and their growth will be double. Your 10 year old looks very smaller and similar to my 5 year old barrel cactus

  True, but you can buy some of the plants that are older, they just cost a lot. Even one that looks about a year old was expensive.

  Wooden or bamboo sticks in soil by roots is a no go here as the stick mold or rot eazy

  Use well draining gritty soil mix, allow plants to dry out in between watering, no water in the winter, sunny location, if in a container not too big.

  I started out with a golf ball size ferocactus and 1 year later its the size of a softball or large orange. The growth has been pretty fast for me. I live in finland too so its dormant half the year in winter.
