Paul's Portal

Paul's Portal

After seeing some great videos of places all over the planet, I realized people would probably like seeing things in my corner of the world too, or wherever I end up exploring. So, I decided to start filming places I had previously walked or biked, as well as making a list of destinations to seek out and document. These types of videos are great for seeing different places of interest or even for background, relaxation ambience. Either way, enjoy the visual voyage into these various areas on the hikes, rides and missions that I embark on.

Let's go!

Lorna! Yeah, the Dr. Seuss, Alice in Wonderland bird houses were great haha! Very unique. The big steel rusty animals were cool too. As were the stone and rock pillars with water flowing down them. Hope you're having a nice summer so far!

@@paulsportal1720 Ha, I had to go back and check the fountains, the one I liked, tall one, was stone, my first thought was wood. I like it in stone better. Summer to dang hot. Northern CA's supposed to be cool, 104 +/-. I hate it, but everyone is getting it. Mother Nature is pissed. You stay cool.

Not exactly Gatsby style, but definitely a golden age mansion…..the grounds are a fairie tale, you could only dream of, what a place to grow up and the thatched cottage was so pretty from the outside, I wish we could have seen inside of it!

The area looks nice but they are on top of each other. No security?😢. Too many dark streets and hidden areas for me. No pools? What’s that about? Queens, New York carries such a strange energy for me.

You were all but standing on my parents porch. My Dad passed away in April and loved to sit on the porch but he must have been inside or with his great grandchildren he loved so much. Thought maybe he might have been caught on video. He is some video I shot in 1985 in that area with my late friend Rob and my friend Doug. We were not really trying to document the homes but goofing around and caught a lot of the area as it was almost 40 years ago. kzread.info/dash/bejne/np6u1cOpeLnFd9Y.htmlsi=66hcsyb5VAPcjVvy

I lived in Queens for 27 years and used to go for a motorcycle ride with a bunch of friends on Sundays very early (7am) and we used to stop by that main entrance to this cluster to have coffee and then go for a slow spin inside to look a the beautiful mansions. After that we would go to the J. Robinson Pwy all the way to Brooklyn. It was a awesome ride.

Beautiful here too, in Northern California, you can hear the weeds growing. Scotch Broom in bloom on our hill, hubby hates it, allergies, but it's so beautiful. I feel the most profound gratitude to have grown up in the ancient land of Massachusetts; where our nation first began to form, with all its triumph and tragedies. Far beyond the human presence ; beyond the native inhabitants there are the remnants of ancient 300,000,000 year old mountain ranges stretching from Georgia, to Manhattan, to Canada. These vast mountains dwarfed the tiny nubs we call the Appalachians, ,Berkshires, White Mountains of today; rising 20,000 plus feet above the sea. They were raised up by ancient continental tectonic collisions all along the eastern sea board in mountain building epochs called (orogenies). There were several periods of accretion / adding on to the continental crust landmass of oceanic island archs.. Hard to conceive but it's reality. Successive glaciers, and eons of erosion wore these giant mountains down; leaving behind the vast collection of borders dragged by the ice sheet that was two miles 11,000 feet thick only 20,000 years ago. The moraine or remains of this massive snow plow effect left us Cape Cod's water supply and lakes in (kettle ponds) like Lake Maspanoc of Hopkinton and many many others.. It left the vast shoals of boulders that were deposited in Narraganset bay and the sands of Cape Cod and the islands Nantucket, Marthas Vineyard. There is so much to dream about in the rock record. vast continental collisions we can barely comprehend.

The pond is named Indian Pond I grew up in North Riverdale (Skyview On The Hudson) we used to ice skate on the pond & play hockey. Fieldston was almost unreal for us kids from all over the city whose parents made the decision to leave the “hood” so we could grow up someplace different.
