We continue on the highway driving series with another installment of the Queens roadways, covering areas I didn’t drive down in Part One. It was an overcast, cloudy day, which was good because that meant no sun glare and shadows. A different vibe altogether. Again, lots of fun zipping around seeing places like Queens Museum, LaGuardia Airport and Astoria, but also mild road rage moments due to traffic jams and bonehead motorists at times. Like I previously mentioned in the first video, this is the norm for high vehicle concentration freeways anywhere. Just gotta roll with it. The rain started up on the last stretch of my tour, but that made for an interesting ride on the Jackie Robinson Expressway. I had to pay extra attention! That’s a winding racetrack-like roadway that connects Queens and Brooklyn perfectly. A cool design.
Once again, these highways were the handiwork of legendary city planner Robert Moses. It’s pretty amazing how much he developed and built, as well as just the concepts of making these things work right for the operation of NYC and the community as a whole. These roads see an incredible amount of traffic every single day. It’s really amazing seeing how they all intersect and lead drivers to their destinations.
