I was born and raised in ENY. There’s always been prostitution, drugs and high crime. But there were also hard working men and women there. Home owners, business owners and other blue collar people that took care of their families and stood clear of the nonsense. Gentrification has been creeping in the last few years and in another 5 years, the neighborhood won’t look the same.

Thank you for saying this. I too live in a community much like this and the majority of people work and have good family values. Those who have gotten caught up are always highlighted and makes us all as a collective in these communities look as though the entire neighborhood is wholly bad when in fact, it’s just a small group who make the trouble.

I wish this video showed more of the community and its people. I grew up in this area and attended Thomas Jefferson High School. I walk down those blocks my entire childhood in Brooklyn, and do not miss it because of the high crime and heavy traffic. I do go back every so often for the food and to see family. Brooklyn is not the same when I was growing up as a child due to so many people vacating the area and gentrification.

East NY reminds me some much of Baltimore; blue collar, rough and industrial, with similar named streets (Pennsylvania Ave., Saratoga, etc.). Had an ex from ENY who lived not too far from Bradford & Pitkin. Despite all the negative aspects of living in any urban city, there are "good, hardworking people" in that community. There is lot of history in that part of Brooklyn. Hopefully, gentrification won't destroy ENY's authenticity.

Very sad to see these young women in such desperate circumstances, they must turn to this for their livelihood. This is not a way to live. The cycle of poverty and addiction, keeps too many young people in “the life”, instead of being able to move up and out, and take their lives in a positive direction.

My Cousin's Place, Wiggles, and Club 88. When Giuliani was mayor, in his infinite wisdom, he closed all three down. That's when all the strippers hit the streets in the surrounding area. We should never sit back a judge others choices without knowing the context. We should not judge period. I hope each one of those girls are safe in this very moment and knows they have an inherent worth and value, are loved, and deserving of kindness and respect as is every other human being. I could never hate on another young woman or bash their… grind if that’s what you wan call it… but this is where I am SO glad I came from an upper east side of Manhattan school education even living farr from there…. It really makes a huge difference and it’s not even entirely their fault too. That’s why you can’t be mad. Can’t control the forces that existed all of their lives, the system, and their zone school education. It is what it is. Would take a very strong minded strong willed excellent young girl to escape this with both a crazy body AND brains and not succumb to selling themselves. I believe God created my path to in FACT save the types of woman. As I understand them deeply and love always, I just always refused to participate, clown, entertain, or pay any of the hoey antics any mind. But it’s all 🫶🏽🤎🤎

East NY may not be the fanciest of places but there are a lot of families that live there that work hard, go to school, and do the best they can with what they have. I have seen the prostitution in that area, my family don't live too far. I pray for those women every day and their strength to get away from that life and leave their pimp. I try to keep in mind they're no different than those hard working families - they too are doing the best that they can with what life has afforded them. Its just difficult when I pass by the area and see the pimps on the corners watching them and not get upset... (fine example at 3:32 & 6:38 - they try to not look obvious but it be obvious)...and if they're outside in broad daylight like that then they didn't earn enough for their pimps the night before. Its heartbreaking! BUT that's only a small aspect of "the hood" and thankfully there's so much more to that neighborhood than just the sex workers. Hoping another video can highlight some of the positives!

I work around this neighborhood and was shocked when I first saw it as my cab drove down Wortman Ave. They even dress like this in the middle of the day in winter.

The winter! That's crazy to me out in frigid cold. Oh well, callem thick, super stunning sexy polar bears during that so-called wonderful time of the year.🎄⛄️

This is the cleanest nicest looking “hood” I’ve seen.. come down to the wards in New Orleans or the East side of the city.. looks like a war zone in some spots and the streets are tore tf up (I mean the actually pavement has potholes that will make u say a pray &hope u don’t break down to u get across the city line).. I’m sure crime is bad there but it looks pretty normal..
