Malba Mega Homes! WALKING TOUR • Queens, NY • 7/31/23
Still another amazing hidden gem neighborhood in the NYC borough of Queens. Not many people have ever heard of Malba, let alone ever seen it, so I decided to document it in all its glory. One of the richest and most luxurious collection of homes around, right on the waterfront as well, known as Powell’s Cove. Malba was established in 1908 and there’s still a few landmarks standing from way back. Lots of cool old stately houses, also from decades ago, as well as more recent times. There’s even a futuristic space age style house. I saw workers building, renovating and repairing stuff throughout my walk, so the area is clearly in high demand and the residents are serious about the property upkeep.
This beautiful private neighborhood is on the west side of the Whitestone Expressway and extends to 138th Street further west, 15th Avenue to the south and Powell’s Cove on the northern edge (which connects to the East River). Its name is derived from the first letters of the surnames of the five founders, all residents of New Haven, Connecticut: George A. Maycock, Samuel R. Avis, George W. Lewis, Nobel P. Bishop, and David R. Alling. The land was acquired in 1883 by William Ziegler, president of the Royal Baking Powder Company; a subsidiary, the Realty Trust Company, developed 163 acres (sixty-six hectares) in 1908 for wealthy boaters and fishermen, and in the same year railroad service was extended.
There were thirteen houses by the time of the First World War and more than a hundred were built in the 1920s. The railroad station closed in 1932. In the mid 1990s Malba had about four hundred houses, ranging in value from $500,000 to $1 million; a group of homeowners, the Malba Association, attends to the interests of the neighborhood. Look for the Yacht Club pier which is still in operation.
As you can see here in my video, it’s remained quite visually eye catching and certainly well maintained with pride by the current owners. Truly a unique and amazing part of NYC’s vast history.

Love malba!❤ I miss malba so much! I used to work near malba back in the 80's. Malba is so special and unique because malba is actually a town...IN a town!🤭 malba is inside Whitestone. They both have the same zip code 11357.🎉
I know it's just a dream for a person like me I will never be able to get such a beautiful house but I'm so relaxed watching this video I'm in that place looking at every step the well trim plants everywhere green and calm it's a piece of heaven love from India.

Some pretty huge homes here, they make me curious what their jobs/businesses are or if it's old money. Would again love to see some of the interior layouts. Some beautiful landscaping too, I'm getting some hydrangeas, they're pretty showy. Thanks for the stroll Paul. Do you know where they filmed the house on Blue Bloods, that seems like an upscale area.

Yeah I wondered the same. Lots of the houses seem semi newish, so I’m thinking business owners, tech, finance, medical profession type people? At least in the newer looking places. I agree, the landscaping really stood out to me also. Love seeing it. Cool area. As for the Blue Bloods house, I remember one they filmed in Brooklyn, not sure about Queens.

To know about this area you probably live around Francis lewis blvd and northern blvd, bayside, Whitestone, fresh meadows and Bay terrace, Little neck, Douglaston pkwy. Most people out these areas in Queens dont know about it.

Marido trabalhando trabalhando, filha na escola. Então saio para caminhar e encontro muitas pessoas conhecidas. Vivo em um lugar , município onde você pode conversar com qualquer pessoa sem problemas. Do 🇧🇷 Paraná. Mas não deixa de ser lindo. Porém solitário. As janelas, tudo fechado. Parece que nem moram pessoas nesse lugar. Mas enfim eu estou encantada com os jardins! Parabéns pelo vídeo

I live in such an area, but not all of us live well, unfortunately, there are dysfunctional families who, in the hope that the rich will help them, moved, but this did not make them live better. Our area is called the "golden perimeter". The dream of living near respectable and rich people attracts people, but if you cannot maintain a good standard of living in such a place, it is better not to start living there, since building a house and repairing it is very expensive.

I'm surprised that the street, sidewalks And Menacing telephone poles with wires going in every direction are identical to the worst hoods in America, this hood just have nicer homes. 😂😂

@@paulsportal1720 @paulsportal1720 I have a passport and I applied for tourist visa but the first thing American embassy asked me about my relatives in America ,few more questions and then they refused ,handed me common refusal letter I don't have strong ties to my country like assets and family ties like husband and children I didn't want to comment on your video but I couldn't stop myself from sharing my experience about how America is blessing for my Muslim relatives (siblings of my father) and women rights advocate Malala but not for unknown girl like me
