All you fans of historic, beautiful, mega homes are in for a real treat! This is my best walking tour yet, in regards to seeing amazing houses. It goes above and beyond with the addition of the incredible estate property that it’s part of too. The majestic Old Westbury Gardens out in Long Island, NY is really something to behold. Wow. I always knew there were really big homes out there to see, but this was extra special because you can actually go inside, plus walk freely on the property, since it’s now a museum. It’s very much a Great Gatsby and Eyes Wide Shut type of scenario. Just an incredible place. The house alone is amazing and full of beautiful antiques from the Phipps Family, but then you also get to explore the property which is equally amazing. Ponds, gardens, fountains, sprawling lawns, cottages, statues, etc. It was beyond what I expected. I was there over two hours and at one point, just sat on a bench and relaxed. A very serene atmosphere, coupled with a perfect sunny day. It was great to experience one of the few remaining intact country house and gardens from Long Island's estate era.
Old Westbury Gardens is the former estate of businessman John Shaffer Phipps (1874-1958), an heir to the Phipps family fortune, in Nassau County, New York. Located at 71 Old Westbury Road in Old Westbury, the property was converted into a museum home in 1959. It is open for tours from April through October. Work on the estate began in 1903, when John Shaffer Phipps promised his fiancée, Margarita Grace (a daughter of businessman Michael P. Grace), that he would build her a home in the United States that resembled her family's British residence at Battle Abbey in Battle, East Sussex, England. The house was ready in 1906 for Phipps, his wife and their young children. Westbury House, the Carolean Revival (Charles II style) mansion designed by British designer George A. Crawley with assistance from American architect Grosvenor Atterbury, contains 23 rooms. The grounds cover 160 acres.

Visiting in the spring is breathtaking because all flowers are in full bloom. Another place which is amazing is Planting Fields Arboretum 🌺🌷🪷🌸🌼

@@ClearmorningDew Thanks for the tip on Planting Fields! Definitely checking it out next spring. Anything in Oyster Bay tends to be really nice. I actually worked an event at Charles Dolans estate there many years ago. Beautiful area.
Totally a Great Gatsby scenario haha!
In the early 50s and 60s my family would drive to the Westbury drive in. I always wondered what the Westbury Mansion and gardens looked like. As an landscape designer I say thanks to you Ive now seen them. Flowering urns white birch logs in the fireplaces, maybe a Steinway grand and a thatched cottage. What a thrill, great tour, plus all the info, Bravo 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Wow, I haven't been to a drive in since the 1980's. Used to love those. Glad you enjoyed this video tour. I had a great timing visiting Westbury Gardens. Looking forward to going again in the spring. Thanks for the feedback Barbara! Take care!
Just extremely awesome Paul. Can you even imagine living in this gorgeous home? The rose and lilac gardens would be to die for when in bloom. The huge trees are superb too. This indeed is a great tour, thank you for letting us see this.

You’re very welcome! Such a beautiful place. I’m definitely revisiting!
Not exactly Gatsby style, but definitely a golden age mansion…..the grounds are a fairie tale, you could only dream of, what a place to grow up and the thatched cottage was so pretty from the outside, I wish we could have seen inside of it!
Two things I remember from my childhood were going to Nunley's Amusement and Old Westbury farms and Gardens. So much history here. This mansion is so beautiful. Thank you for the tour and history in the description!

Thank you very much! This was definitely a fun visit. I really liked walking the property. Such amazing design everywhere you looked!
Very very beautiful scenery. I liked the trees and plants. I think it is a zamindar's palace but I don't know. It looks very nice. Are these gardens owned by any ancestor? I am watching from Bangladesh.

This house and property was owned by The Phipps Family year ago. I agree it’s very beautiful. Historic too!
