It maybe true that there are many issues that are contributing to the decline of a specific species in any particular regions. It is very hard especially with animals that are migratory. Still, no matter what may be the cause, why would we want to hasten the decline of any animals, even if it is a very minute number. There have been many instances where certain programs have successfully reintroduced native species to their original habitats: wolves in Yellowstone, MuskOx in Alaska, bald eagles in North America, etc. Other instances where there was re-introductions that haven’t been so successful, for example many different species of Whales, who by their migratory issues spend time both in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, are still being overfished by Countries like Iceland, Norway, and Japan. There has also been issues around Cape Cod, Massachusetts, U.S.A., with the successful rebound of the Sea Lions, have radically altered the number of Great White Sharks that are now spending time there, which has ended with one death, and several attacks, although it IS still a very remote chance that you will become a victim ( My family has had a summer home there since the 1970s) This brings me neatly to the fact that there are often lies (too strong a word, but not sure of another one that would be more appropriate) that a lot of people believe: ie that the increase in Sea Lions have greatly reduced the amount of fish available for fishermen or that powdered Rhino horn can have a medical benefit. Sorry, don’t mean to babble on, but just wanted to lay out how I do understand how a complicated the issue is. I believe that a common sense approach, w/o harsh rhetoric from either side, would work, or at least wouldn’t make it any worse. Hunters/Trappers who are living a sustainable lifestyle should be eligible for limited permits, for example there are certain Alaskans that because of their cultural heritage are allowed one whales and there are also individuals who really live off the land who maybe SHOULD also be allowed a limited license. I grew up in Pennsylvania, in fact as a kid, we got the first day of Buck Season off and the opening of doe season could be a legal absence, you just had to bring in a copy of the current year’s license. I know the value of culling the herds so the animals don’t suffer, especially during the winter months. In addition there are plenty of invasive species, on both land and water, that if you aren’t going to utilize the majority of the animal for food, fur (and/or skin, fat ) or that by hunting you aren’t assisting somehow in the betterment of the species, maybe people should explore other avenues or at the very least really give it some thought. What I don’t agree with is the argument that you have a right to hunt/trap/fish anything you want just because you enjoy it as recreation or sport. Wild Hogs are causing an incredible amount of damage in places like Arkansas and aren’t supposed to be there, there are Boa Constrictor competitions in Florida and there are snakehead fish that are not supposed to be there, and they are eating all the native wildlife. All of these animals create quite a hunting challenge and individuals have started running and operating tracking-hunting lodges, clubs etc. Maybe I’m way off base, but I am so exhausted with how the politicians, special interest groups etc are so invested in radicalizing every issue just because by keeping all of us dumb and divided, it benefits them! Sorry-I’ll step off the soapbox. 😜

I have caught beaver in a 220 . It all comes to how you have the trigger wires set . Just like I talked and seen some that have otter mess up their 330 . It is because how they have the wires set on the trap . I seen some otter that had to rings around the skin it show that the person did not have the wires set right.

man, those prices suck. I trapped for a living back in the 1970's and did wayyyyyyy better then. I guess the anti fur gang has ruined the market. its a hell of a lot of work to run two trap lines, skin flesh stretch and dry furs and to only get those prices, man I feel for ya. tough market I guess.

I was getting 12 for a male mink, 18 for a female, 42 for red fox, 35for grey fox, large coon, 18, and 9 bucks for #1muskrat. that was 1977/8 as I remember. I think we were even getting 2 for possum. that was the best muskrat price I ever got. other years, they were around 3 to 5 bucks. Mind you, I skinned fleshed and stretched my furs and they were in prime shape when I took them to Johnny bill freshwater, the fur buyer. Ive seen guys just freezing whole and not skinning and selling that way. that would have gotten a trapper laughed at back when I trapped.@@paulskopic5844
