Northern Maine Marten Trapline: 2019 Throwback
Спорт
This video is a compilation of marten trapping clips from my 2019 northern Maine season. Looking back, it was a short but enjoyable season with lots of ups and downs. I visited and trapped in some beautiful country, much of which has changed in the 3 years since I trapped there. Enjoy it while you can!

👍🏻👍🏻 Nice!!!!
Awesome. I’ve also started a KZread channel and looking forward to the season coming up.
Habitat suitability indexing is a valid exercise whether it’s mink, coyote or I’d think marten.
Seldom is here.
Looks like those lynx exclusion boxes make it tough, the opening seems awful small
Our timber is leaving here fast in TN .
Have you ever secured the bait in the back of the box to keep the weasels from firing your conibear?

Great question. That would be the wise thing to do. Trouble is the extra time it takes when baiting 50 to 80 boxes. Thought about trying several different things, open to suggestions

@@trappingtoday yeah that’s a lot of boxes to wire every piece of bait. Those exclusion boxes you have to use look like a lot of work. Do you bait the boxes before you go out on the line or bait at every set? I have an friend/uncle that will leave his boxes even around the bait usually fish just to get the stink on the boxes themselves. But the setup well use (when the price is right) is similar to the back end of your box but nailed up on a spruce and that seems to keep the weasels out

@@enigmaticgwichin1630 I try to bait a day or 2 before setting them out if I have time. But when I put boxes in the woods ahead of time I gotta add bait when setting

@@enigmaticgwichin1630 I tried leaving boxes in the woods but either the porcupines or the logging equipment usually end up getting them
Have you found it necessary to stake or wire the boxes in place? Especially before the bears hibernate?

No, again it's a time and efficiency issue. We're legally required to fasten the trap to something outside the box. Bears usually knock them over and try to destroy them but never take em too far

Also, When a bear hits a box the trap is almost always fired off or put out of commission anyhow
Mice and voles snap the traps all the time.
