    For Mexico, sadly we cannot help you as that isn't our focus. But for Costa Rica, we'd encourage you to watch our videos and read our blogs (www.yourpuravida.com/links) and also there are tons of other great content makers. If you want to connect, feel free to set up an introductory chat on our website!

    That retirement question (#4 or #5 question I think on your list) is way too of a broad of a question. I think the answer to that question is that person needs to do more research. I have been researching Costa Rica for months and love your channel. One of many that are so devoted to relocating to Costa Rica that I watch and research.

    I know the guys say that they're just talking about their experience, it's their opinion, etc. But the video would have been far more useful if it was one person who moved to Panama over Costa Rica, and one person who moved to Costa Rica over Panama. What we got were totally biased "opinions" from two residents of Costa Rica who are comically uniformed about Panama climate and deliver only anecdotal opinions and hearsay about other key details. They somehow completely omitted details about the Riviera Pacifica, Panama's huge resort playground and community, along with the temperate and cool mountain communities, two of which are teeming with US expats. I urge you to find your info elsewhere.

    Costa Rica has a proportionality principle in what legally enables you to use what violence to defend yourself. You can't shoot someone at range that is not themselves armed with a ranged weapon. You can't shoot to kill unless they are about to imminently kill you or someone else. This means you can't shoot someone you find armed with a knife in your house. If they charge at you, you must not shoot to kill but to incapacitate. Only until they have you within reach AND raising their hand or coiling their lunge can you legally shoot to kill. However, it also means that if you find the same person in your home with an automatic rifle, you can immediately shoot to kill because if they bring it to bear you are more than likely going to die. But this scenario is only likely if you are a narco yourself and probably not that worried about the legality of your actions.

    To participate in the CCSS (Caja) you must report an income. Your contribution is proportional to your reported income. If you fulfill your quotas, you get a pension from the CCSS, and it too is proportional to your reported income.

    Thank you for doing these videos! These are great to a lot of those quick hit types of questions. I have two questions. Other than being able to access CAJA, are there any advantages to obtaining residency? If I recall correctly from previous videos, you were able to buy homes and a car without being a resident. I'm struggling to see the advantages. Second, have either of you experienced a football (soccer) match there? If so, how was the experience?

  • @GringlesFacil
    @GringlesFacil18 күн бұрын

    There are many benefits to having residency, some of them might not be important to the average person, but by having it you often times get better pricing on certain things, and also if you care about obtaining a second passport in order to diversify a portfolio of passports for whatever reason, getting residency starts the clock toward the six year process of obtaining your costa rican passport.

    México is now (post elections) very unstable. Foreign investment is rapidly descreasing and local investment and money are fleeing the country like there's no tomorrow because we don't have legal security any more. The justice system is almost non existent because it's flooded with corruption. Yes, Mexico is a giant country with one of the largest and most cosmopolitan cities in the World where you can get anything you might desire and think of at any time, but with 25 mill people (in Mexico City) there's horrible traffic jams ALL day, EVERY day. Plus, crime has been steadily going through the roof for years throughout the whole country. Housing prices are at an all time high, making it difficult even for expats. Earthquakes can be devastating, and not only in Mexico City (which is famous for them). You can get exceptional health care services in the private sector, but they're insanely expensive, but the public health system is hell, so getting sick or having an emergency here is a luxury unattainable for most of the 130 mill people that live in the country. We have the best food on the planet and some of the best landscapes in the world. Tourism can go from incredibly cheap to insanely expensive, but your safety won't be guaranteed in any regard anywhere in the country. Education quality has fallen to the deepest pits of hell and the ignorance and resentment of the general population is appalling. If you want some cultural experince (arts, museums, shows, concerts, architecture, history, etc) you're in the right place, that's a given... Water is contaminated and scarce in many regions. Quality of life is incredibly low, from the biggest cities to the smallest towns because OC *owns* at least 30 % of our territory with the blessing of the government. And to top it off, we now have a radical left and populist government seeking to establish a dictatorship. Mexico is in no way, shape or form what it used to be 6 or 7 years ago. Sadly, this "paradise" is no longer. DO NOT COME HERE. I'm currently looking to move to CR with all my family. Sad but true.

We live in Jersey and genuinely need a different life that we feel we can't get here in the US no matter what state we move to. We've slowly been prepping to "live off the grid" so to speak. As always, I have enjoyed yet another one of your videos. My two cents: Costa Rica is called "Little Switzerland" partly because of its political stability and also because it has no army. As someone married to a Costa Rican, I can tell you that the neutrality I experience here in Costa Rica is very similar to the neutrality I experienced living with my Swiss roommates in Boulder, Colorado. However, if push comes to shove (Or shove back to push), most Costa Ricans will take a position and defend their beliefs, just as my Swiss roommates once defended Germans/Germany and how they behaved during WW II. Now that I'm older and living here, I usually limit myself to "platitudes +" (Using a flat, disinterested voice and sticking to facts that most everyone agrees to) when interacting with anyone here. And finally, did I move here in 2019 to get away from the division that had become the United States? Well, what do you think? Again, thanks for all you do and have a lovely weekend.

    Good info. I am North American USA and my wife is Colombiana, we have a goal to buy a place in Santa Marta, that would double as an Airbnb. I feel safe in Col, however, last year we rented a super nice place with ocean/beach views, on our way back one night after shopping we were almost to our building when this guy stopped us and said where are you going... He advised us not to continue it was pitch black and he said you guys are not locals, and will stand a chance of being robbed etc... I love Colombia and the people and it is on the cheap compared to USA, but there is a safety concern or just need to be very aware of your surroundings and where you walk, just use good judgment. But then there are places in the USA, that are just if not worse. I would like to check out CR before dialing in a house purchase.

    Really? roads are way better in Panama, our main haighway have 4 lanes. Temperature? relocate to Boquete or Volcan. We have the dollar and import almost everything, so briging Amazon stuff gets very cheap and you do NOT pay US or PANAMA taxes, if item is lower than $1000. Supermarkets are full of US items. Panama will offer you senior citizen discounts, at the banks, you get priority service. MOVE TO PANAMA. Panamanian society loves to bark but we dont bite.

    Thank you so much for opening this conversation. I’ve vacationed in Costa Rica now for the last 5 years (except during Covid) We’ve enjoyed ourselves immensely and recently had the opportunity to purchase a condo. Because we purchased the condo, the suggestion to apply for residency came up. With current research I’ve done I’ve been trying to balance the benefits of doing so. I plan to spend 5 months of the year in the country for now, but as I get older may opt to stay longer. My main concern is the difference in health care costs as a resident or buying travel medical for the months I’m in Costa Rica. I’m very happy with the Condo, it’s in an area where I have access to most of my needs ( shopping etc) and I’ve stayed as a vacationer in the same condo so I know this will work well for me. In fact looking through the points you discussed in this video was reassuring for me! Thank you!
