RANT: Don’t buy real estate in Costa Rica until you consider the life you want to live here first.

If you want a vacation home in Costa Rica, sure, call a real estate agent first. But if you truly want to build a life here, don't start your search with real estate. In this video, Patrick and Aaron explain why so many people start their move to Costa Rica with a real estate search, and why that's a bad idea.

Well, I came to Nicaragua on 830 day vacation with my family right before Covid started and we were going to stay for the 30 days and return back to Canada. After Covid started we thought we’d ride out Covid on the beach for another six months when that would be over. it kept going for a couple years and I’ve been here since so it’s about four years I did in Nicaragua and then I came on a bus down to Costa Rica and I stopped at most of the beach towns and had people that had been living in each beach town for five or 10 years and they showed me around. I found a little town called Dominical and Uvita and Platanillo. I knew the opportunity was right for my business and it was a lifestyle that was similar to mine growing up. I can relate a lot to what you say in the videos as far as I really like the Conveniences of San Isidro it has everything I need and what not but I’m not sure I could live in Tennessee full-time so I enjoy being in Platanillo, which is 30 minutes from downtown Centro and 20 minutes from the beach. A big factor besides obviously I moved here to work is the climate just up the hill in the jungle is much cooler than it is down at the beach. I’m surrounded by waterfalls so there are exciting things to do in nature when I’m not lazy in my backyard. I’m so glad I have never purchased real estate in central America thus far. I have said this is the perfect location at least five times in the past four years and I keep on finding somewhere better. Thanks for the video. Watched it to the end. Have a great day.

Can you guys talk more about life of retirement for people and especially couples in their 60s wanting to have accessible resources, infrastructure and amenities, and related to the various political, social and economic difficulties faced in Costa Rica?

D and I are back from La Fortuna and it's abundantly clear that places we love vacationing at are not necessarily places we would want to be full-time.

Facts! I love La Fortuna (going back to visit for a week soon) and the first time we were there on vacation during the rainy season we thought it would be a great place to live. However, after returning there in the "high" season we realized that it was way too crowded and the weather didn't suit us. We were surprised at ourselves for not thinking it through all the way because we moved here to CR from FL. We would never live near Disney or anything like that because of the crowds and the high prices...so duh, same goes for Costa Rica. In any case, we have decided to look for a place in the San Carlos area, probably in Ciudad Quesada, because it is close enough to La Fortuna if we wanna go hang out or if family is visiting, but we don't have to deal with all the tourists.

Hello Guys 👋 Really appreciate your content and the willingness to help. Me and my wife will most probably be moving to CR soon. I’m an American and my wife is Brazilian (She’s also an US resident). And we will be doing exactly what you mentioned about scouting the area to decide. But what if we need more than the 180 day visa; is doing a border run still allowed? I hear that CR is putting an end to that. And once we decide to make the move; doing the $60K bank deposit seems like our only option. Is there a bank that is in CR and the US to make this easier and safer? I was told Scotia and Davivienda may work.

I wasn`t yet in Latin America, I think about how to best experience whether I could live there, I think about a visit of several weeks before deciding to move there.
