I didn't include that because it varies wildly. I also purchased this lot along with many other lots as a package deal. Each lot has different value because there is ocean view and lot size to consider. But I paid just one bulk price so it's hard to say. Its like if you paid $10 for an apple, a juice, coffee, milk and a can of beans and someone was like, how much was the apple?

@@SashaJuliardD You would look at the receipt and it would tell you. Multiple lots would have had dollar figures to each, it can't be hard to give a ballpark figure on cost of land. Given where I think this is, I would guess in the realm of 110k. Unless what you built on here was sub-divided after or one of several structures on the same plot... given the fact this is a rental.

Hi Sasha - well done! I strongly encourage you to add horizontal concrete "beams" in the ground that tie into the concrete pilings supporting your house. I used a similar construction method in similar terrain and each corner of my house is subsiding at different rates. This causes racking which puts great stress on the structure. Another thing to consider on your next build is ensuring the upper part of the house does not come into physical contact with the concrete bodega structure below. By building on pilings, it is easier to protect your house from termites and ants because regular visual inspection is a snap. When you have a concrete structure (bodega, bath house) contacting a structure on pilings, you make it difficult to inspect for ants and termites. And it becomes far more difficult to stop them once they find your house.

Was thinking the same thing when I saw the concrete footings. Should be continuous. Was also thinking that he could have opted for materials to prevent termites. Well said.

@@NSAKEY I will definitely consider horizontal beams on my next one. As for termite resistant materials, all the wood I used was pine treated by a company that makes a special process and treatment for this area specifically for the weather and insects down here.

Loved this video. Thanks for the transparency. Inspiring! But I have on question: I did not hear you speak to plumbing.... I saw a sink and a toilet (I'm assuming some sort of shower too). I assume there must be a septic system? Maybe rain collection and filtering? What did that end up costing? Or are you living without water / wastewater disposal?

Looks gorgeous! Costa Rica is also less criminal from the rest of the South America as i have heard, so should be safer.

Thanks :) Getting land is similar to anywhere else. You can own in your own name and there are plenty of realtor sites that will have listings. CR doesn't have an MLS so there isn't one central database for all listings but each regions realtors will know all the listings. I would recommend going with a local because A) they might now of more that are unlisted anywhere and B) supporting locals

In my country you don't need a permit to build house like that (up to 40m2). You just send project to local authoritys. However it has to be out of city/town lines and not taller than 5.5 meters. But...cool house. Love it. Just finished my 40m2 house.
