I’m in Nosara and murders have soared this year. The gangs have moved in and there is a drug territory battle going and there has been collateral damage. Recently they have shot people at the super in the afternoon and even entered Elias to finish someone off.

I would say all of Costa Rica (like most of the US/Canada) is safe if you stay smart and don’t do silly things.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you guys do not speak spanish and only get your news from the english news sources here, because if you read the local news you would see that the violence is EVERYWHERE in the country, including the tiny little town I live in. Yes, most of the murders are related to drugs, but a lot of murders are also related to loansharking(drug money is loaned to people who can't get loans from a bank). And when shootings take place, they happen in public and there is usually innocent people who get caught in the crossfire, including children. The main cause of all of this is that the judicial system here does not punish criminals, instead they play catch and release and let them back on the street within a few hours after being arrested. It's not uncommon to see someone arrested who has been convicted multiple times for homicide, and then let loose again because the judge determined there was not enough evidence for them to remain in jail until their next court date.

Actually. We DO read sources in both Spanish and English. And yes, we know the diversity of crime. We are not at all trying to downplay crime. This same scenario is playing out on my home state and across North America as well. Safety is also about how you stay aware, and where and what you avoid. We see crime here, but we also feel safe.

I'm living in Japan rite now, sometimes I forget to lock my car overnight, I always leave my child's iPad in the car and some valuables. Never had a single issue. It is very safe here. It's funny and horrible how Americans try to adjust their perspectives to justify safety issues in CR. CR is not safe anymore, sadly.

My wife and I live in a neighborhood with private security, and our house has all of the usual metal surrounding it. It feels safer now where we live than it did in 2008. My point is, it really is neighborhood to neighborhood as far as crime increasing or decreasing.@@yourpuravida

I'm extremely happy to have come across this channel. I've been ready to bounce from the US since 2016, when we elected conman game show host as president lol. I've been binge watching videos, binge reading articles online etc and I'm ready to go NOW lol. Regretfully, my wife isn't, but i think she's amenable to a part time kind of thing. Of all the channels I've watched on here, this of the first one where I've actually said "ok, these guys are more my speed lol". After 56 years, ive finally gotten my first passport lol. I'm hoping to come down sometime this year on vacation/scouting trip. My next stop is going to be your website. Keep it up, thanks.

Love your videos and smart content. My wife and i are thinking of taking a short vacation feb 17 thru 25. Never been before. We have gone to Hawaii 20 times. Could you recommend which airport and beach area to start our journey to eventually move to Costa rica. We will definitely be using your services in the future after we make sure it's our future permanent home location. Thank you

Thank you so much for the compliment - it means the world to us! In terms of airport, it really depends on what you are looking for in a beach area. If you want a more touristy and "modern" beach vibe, fly into Liberia and look at the Guanacaste coast (maybe even adventure down into the Nicoya Peninsula). If you want a more chill beach, maybe think central or southern Pacific and fly into San José and venture down to Hermosa or even more remote and stunning Uvita/Dominical or the peninsula! Can't wait to hear what you end up doing. We are here to help you if you need/want!

Right now we've taken a relatively low-fi approach as it's easiest for us to produce as often as we do and we truly want to have a conversation without it being/looking too "produced". But we'll see how we modify as we go. Really glad you're watching - and participating in the conversation.

Well last year was the most violent year in Costa Ricas history with over 900 homocides, the goverment is trying to combat that problem but to be honest i doubt they will fix it soon i hope they do. Still Costa Rica is safer then most of the other central american countries if that helps you.

Here’s my perspective as a ex-pat living in Costa Rica. Let’s call a spade to spade, crime has skyrocketed. Costa Rica has become like the Harrison Ford film ‘Mosquito coast’. It’s political leaders are a pathetic joke. Corrupted and on the take. President Chavez talks a big talk with little action. Things unfortunately will deteriorate because they is no political will unlike it’s Central American neighbor El Salvador 🇸🇻. This nation under President Bakale has turned this nation around where it is now the safest Central and South American nation. He has removed the very gangs that are now plagued Costa Rica and introduced cryptocurrency that has brought prosperity to El Salvador. Costa Rica prices soar for basic things adding more stress on its population.
