    That’s so cool! I remember an old motel we’d stay at on the beach here in Florida had these in the bathrooms when I was a kid. They didn’t have an exhaust though. I have the modern 2021 model QT9093 version of this in white, that has vent/heater/lite/nite lite, but it doesn’t nearly look as cool.

    After getting rust off a wrench or ratchet, do you recommend putting anything on them to prevent rust coming back?

  • @floridarusticrepairs
    @floridarusticrepairs2 күн бұрын

    This could open a whole can of worms with some people. :) It depends on how bad the rust was. If it was really bad I sometimes spray them with clear paint. If it's all metal you could even put oil on it and bake it like a cast iron pan. Some people would recommend getting a home plating kit and going that route. Generally I find a light coat of motor oil or metal polish works well to keep the rust down. I don't recommend WD-40 for that. Too caustic. Good luck!

  • @floridarusticrepairs
    @floridarusticrepairs7 күн бұрын

    The four 3/8 tapcons per beam should be fine. Also, I think with the shape of this, it doesn't allow the wind to ever gain much lift. That, combined with the weight of the structure and the bases we used to secure it make it very stable. This structure hasn't gone through a hurricane yet but my carport and the porch on one of the outbuildings have been through several and they are constructed the same way using the same bases.

    Sir, do you have an email? I am repainting a bottom door of a 76’ craftsman bottom box. It is a DARK GREY. I bought a can of charcoal gray, and it was way too light. Do you happen to know what color spray paint matches that really dark gray color in the 1970s craftsman toolboxes. It’s just a shade under black and I’ve not been able to find a can of spray paint that matches that color so now I’m stuck with one door, that is a different color than the rest thank you and keep these great videos coming! If you have the email, I’ll send you a picture of what I’m talking about. Thanks.

    We are entering into a deep, philosophical exploration.😉 In my view, this is a tool that should be used. It should be maintained, repaired and put back to WORK. Leave 'restoration' for things that go into a museum. If you are going to paint it, do so to preserve its future utility not its 'value'. After several years of collecting older power tools produced in the USA and Canada, I have serious doubts about the existence of a widespread interest in vintage portable power tool collecting as a formalized or organized hobby or pastime. Where are the magazines or journals? Where are the conferences and meets? Heck, where are the KZread channels with a subscriber base to rival the numbers seen on vintage car channels. Canada is a country of 40 million citizens. Time after time I seem to be the only person in the country interested in buying a particular tool which it advertised nationally. I see the same phenomenon when I venture onto American Craigslist and see perfectly good tools at perfectly fair prices going unsold for months or years! Please do not use Ebay's fantasy land asking prices as an accurate indication of what old tools are worth. 😁

  • @floridarusticrepairs
    @floridarusticrepairs8 күн бұрын

    You raise a good point. Most old electrical tools have very little value which is why I was surprised to see these are actually in demand. Out of all of the tools which I've restored this is the first one to have any real value. With ebay I only look at what things have actually sold for.

    @@floridarusticrepairs Thanks for taking the time to read my wordy comment. 😉Obviously, I value vintage tools made by our fellow citizens that were built to last. @@floridarusticrepairs Ditto for Canada. My house was built in 1978. I try to explain to people that every type of building material including plumbing and electrical was sourced domestically. The tools used by the tradesman to build it came from Canada (or the USA) and the appliances that were first installed were all built here. Today 95% of that is gone!!!!! After decades of toxic globalization we are finally seeing some interest in building up domestic capacity in our countries. It is now or never.
