Mystery Ratchet Cleanup - Who Made This?

Finding old tools at the flea market is always an adventure. In this video we're going to look at two common Craftsman ratchets as well as two older, mystery ratchets. Eventually I identify one but I need help with the second one. Let's get busy! #vintagetools #craftsmantools #prototools #durotools #antiquetools #ratchetrepair

If it says patent pending it's likely between 1928 and 1931 according to Alloy Artifacts.

Nice job Matt, those old American made tools are worth the attention to get them working again.

I agree. I'm pretty sure it is 1930's.

Great video once again. You have got to try “goof off” for removing paint, stains, stickers, and hard to remove residue from anything. It works for everything. Also, the top box on your cart in 12:33 was sold by “SAT urday hardware. I have the same one with a rolling cart.

I've used Goof Off for adhesive removal but never for cleaning a ratchet. Sounds like something worth checking into. Thanks for the tip!

Yes. Not sure what you could use it on for a ratchet.

At 3:15 looks like Herbrand. I put my rachets in a soup can full of transmission fluid for a few months one every year or two.

That may be. Herbrand did have knobs on the back for reversion levers but as far as I can tell this knob is different than theirs. Maybe they made unbranded versions like this.

I don't think that craftsman is China made. It's a Danaher / gearwrench style, probably 84T . I think that older ratchet could possibly be a Walden? But I'm not 100 percent sure. Sometime they where called Walden/Worcester.

Thanks! I just looked up some old Walden's and I think you're right. No idea why it would be unbranded though. I used that 84T Craftsman a few days ago and I like it. I read up on them and can't say for sure where this one was made but apparent;y these were expensive when new. I guess it's a keeper. :)

I have a ratchet that has adjustable jaws built into it to grip a nut or bolt instead of using a socket. I found it several years ago at a resale shop and have never seen another one like it. There are no markings on it. I only use it on small jobs when I don't feel like pulling out a whole socket set. Have you ever seen one or have any knowledge of it?

Is it possibly a Craftsman "Pocket Socket"? I have two of these. Mostly good for holding taps.
