Dude that wall full of Polaroids looks proper eco friendly
They were printed to look like Polaroids. No way I could afford the film!
Right I've just found you today man. I've got an opinel slim/N°12f and a boker cuisine 3, you should look them up you might like them but to be fair the opinel is a filet knife
Welcome! Since this video was made I have purchased a boker. It’s a lovely knife
Will the micro pot nestle in the mini? (Without its handle or lid if need be). Seems like it would be a useful variation and fill an unused space. (Nice to be able to make brew or two and cook at approximately the same time without washing up).
Unfortunately not. It is too tall. But you could use a strap or a band as it will fit (diameter wise). It would negate the nice ‘clip on’ lid of the mini and make it all generally bigger.
What fuel did you use? Great idea.
Bioethanol. It’s the cheapest fuel I can get here. And I find it burns really well
Looks wonderful. Are you venturing out job wise? Apologies if I missed this.
Well it’s stationary venturing. 7th rise is a retreat set in 15 acres of woodland on the shores of the river Fal. You’ve not missed anything. I’ve just been appealing at making ‘content’ as ever
Cool! Makes me very curious on the taste 👀🤌
If you do it right. It’s like childhood smoked woodland holidays. If you get it wrong it’s like burnt plastic.
Mmmm
It's amazing that you can cook a meal like that on such a simple stove.
With a bit of thought it’s very easy to eat well outdoors. That’s what I’m all about!! And thank you for your comment.
I’ve just found you (thanks to Summit or Nothing) but I’m irritated that I haven’t before or else I would have been straight into your crowdfunder. Still, I’ll buy your book when it comes out. All of my backpacking weekends have been fantastic apart from one thing - my meals., but I’ll go through your videos and hopefully my next trip will be five stars!
It’s a pleasure to see you here! You’re not the first person to mention/ ask for another chance at a pre purchase. I’m wondering what to do about it. And when I have found a solution I will share it with you. If you’ve any questions. Please just ask.
What I think? Seems like a tasteful dish, love fish! And for the people who don't, f*ck them. Don't worry to much, this is real food!
Hahaha! Great comment.
Oh man what a nice dish. I'm waiting for delivery of my Trangia 27 and this is defintelely something I'm going to try!😁 Now I'm hungry haha.
It’s a great set up. You’ll Love it! And let me know how the rosti goes
Thanks ! Tom, for this very tasty Porridge recipe very much appreciated. I will take some Manuka honey instead of the brown sugar as I prefer homey and I like honey on kind of fry-toasted wholemeal bread and spread the honey on that too. also poached egg on toast too whist camping in the summits. Consider me Subscribed to your rather wonderful channel. kindest Regards... 👍👍👍
Thanks so much for this lovely comment. Honey it’s a great shout. I find coconut sugar works well too. I hope you enjoy the channel and I hope to get some more recipes and videos out for you soon.
Id never heard of this before, shows a completely different side to life and society in this country
But when you look it becomes more familiar. Especially in places like Cornwall. Thank you for watching.
How do you get the mug to balance on the triangle?
I have a metal grill from a fan guard of an old desktop computer. You can get them online for about £2
@@OffTheBeatenPotooh great idea! Thank you
An asian channel showed making rice in titanium, by placing a neatly cut out disk from a tin can in between the titanium rice pot and the flame, as a heat diffuser. I tried this, and it works fantastic. I have also tried frying in a titanium frying pan. I figured out that very low heat was my best bet for that.
Genius! That’s so simple it’s actually annoying 😆! Thanks for the suggestion!
So excited for this 🖤
Really hope there’s some gluten free stuff in there!
Absolutely. My son is gluten intolerant so I’ve had to adapt a lot of what I do meal wise. Which means I’ve learned a thing or two about good alternatives. Most meals will be written for gluten tolerant people but when there is an alternative it will always be mentioned. The same with meat/ dairy etc.

Trangia Triangle is NOT made of aluminium! 🙄
Steel.
@@OffTheBeatenPot In the video you say "aluminium"...
@@OffTheBeatenPot Actually "lightweight aluminium"...
It was the first ever video I had ever ever made. There was a mixture of nerves and ignorance colliding hard to make this video! And in 5 maybe 6 years. You’re the only person to spot it. So really well done!!! I always think it’s important that people check my mistakes and call me out on them. So thank you so much for taking your time to comment.
@@OffTheBeatenPot So, misleading then... Is there no facility for annotation or correction? 🤔😉
I like the portable nature of the stove and cooking pot and the fact that it makes a meal just for one so saves carrying a massive amount of ingredients. I haven't cooked it myself yet but it's definitely something I can do. No Gordon Ramsey qualifications needed
Let me know what you do cook up when you get your chance!
Brilliant Can’t beat powdered potato as it makes mash, but also a flavourless thickener too. Great Cook Out
Powdered potato is an unsung hero of ⛺️ cooking
Stating the obvious, they cannot be meat balls if they don’t contain meat!!
It’s a fair comment. I’ll change the title
Are you going to do any new cooking videos?
Absolutely. Unfortunately this is just a hobby for me at the moment. And I have a young kid and I have a day job. It all sucks! (Not the kid, he’s great). So I am waiting for the rain to stop so I can make up of these long evenings and at least do recipes from my garden. So, short answer. Yes. Yes I am.
Pre order the book here… www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/off-the-beaten-pot-a-guide-to-cooking-outdoors?
Nice Kit !
Thank you. It took years and a lot of failed attempts and faffing to get right.
@@OffTheBeatenPot Excellent for Backpacking or Bug out Bag .
Hmm, good luck and yes, I'll probably buy it but I would have thought that the market for an expensive coffee-table cookery book in the backpacking world might be a bit limited?
Thank you. Yes it’s not very easy to stuff in the backpack. But there will also be a smaller version as well as recipe cards that can be thrown in the backpack. I’m making this book to the typical size of the outdoor cookbooks (from the ones I own). The pricing is in line with the current market for the big book. Thank you for offering your support. That’s wonderful. Though there are options so make sure you get the right thing for you. And thank you!!
Nom nom nom!
I think so 😆
Boaties like one pot type meals and recipes as well. You could also target them?!
I spent nearly 2 decades working on boats. I agree this would be perfect for them. Unfortunately I don’t know how to ‘target’ people for such things. It would be very useful but I’m a bear of very little brain.
Good luck with this venture, I look forward to seeing you progress towards the goal. Regards Broadlander
Thank you very much!
Look at the toaks fry pan
The one I have is close. But not quite there. I’ll revisit the search soon. Thanks for the input!
Can two of these be zipped together?
Yes. But you have to be sure to have 1 ‘right side’ zip and one ‘left side’ zip. They are available in both
2:49 Wrong. Titanium is much worse than steel or aluminium at conducting heat. That is why users often complain about hot spots in their titanium pots and pans. Titanium also cools off much quicker because of this. It's much easier to burn your food in a titanium pan because of the low conductivity.
Thanks for that input. I appreciate it.
@@OffTheBeatenPot Thank YOU for an otherwise very good video.
@@svenskanal it’s my pleasure. I do try very hard to get the info right. Sometimes my turn of phrase lets me down. Or I just miss the point! So I really do appreciate community input. And really, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. It means a lot to me.
Opinel 7 for me 👍 Have you seen the firebox folding chefs knife?
I have. And I raise you a magnum outdoor cuisine 3. Since this video I got one and it’s such a dreamy knife I use it at home every day.
@@OffTheBeatenPot oh - that looks nice!!!
@@JonnyLOFI it’s very nice. If you’re tempted at all. They gave me a code to use. I was going to put it out in my next video but if you feel the urge. Lemme know
OMG! Get in my belly!! 🤤
I also think that for ease, with a little thought. Powdered potato with a little dried milk powder. Some fresh butter (cafe packs) makes acceptable mash for the wild 😜
More than acceptable, positively dreamy!
@@OffTheBeatenPot smash can also be used as a quick thickener with out imparting too much flavour. Keith Flloyd r.i.p God rest his soul, taught me that years ago, for curries, soups n stews.
@Yorkshiremadmick inside it as a thickener so often. I actually might make a whole video just on the humble potato powder!
Well done. I like kit set up videos. Like to see other perspectives . Do you find yourself ever needing a wind screen or does the set up of the triangle incorporate the function of a windscreen as well?
Thanks! Everything about my cookset is the same EXCEPT I have added a folding a windshield.
Rostie?
Pardon?
Looks very yummy, I will have to try it when our Aussie heatwave is done. Thank you for sharing👍
Let me know how you get on! It’s been raining for what seems like 12 years here. I can’t even picture a heatwave any more!
That set-up is similar to the Evernew Appalachian Set with a few significant differences. The Evernew set is titanium and weighs 200 Grams. The burner stand can take Esbit tablets, twigs, or the spirit burner. It is really efficient in it's use of fuel and a bit better wind protected. 500ml pot is rimmed to fit the stand. If I had your Trangia set I wouldn't switch, but I do have the Evernew and won't switch.
I will never turn down the opportunity to try a new cookset! Thanks for the heads up. You can buy a different burner for this that takes twigs/gel/ tabs. But I’d be very interested to see the windshield difference because that does let this one down just a little
Bro that sounds bussin fr
As someone who spends a lot of time doing bushcraft, I can honestly say that this video is an eye-opener. I really should take more spice related items, expensive Gerber cooking tongues, and a shit knife. Thanks for that mate. Good luck on your journey to being a product promoter. I just have to ask .... are you more than 100 yards away from your house?
Love this comment. We all go outdoors in our own way. I’m not so much into bushcraft, though I would love the opportunity to practice more. My aim is to help people that want to cook better in the outdoors. Not everyone can, or wants to do it in a purely ‘bushcrafty’ way. The more you know, the less you need right? Well I don’t know much about surviving in the outdoors. So I need more stuff. And there are many people in this situation. My journey is to help people to cook a little more outdoors. Yes. I’m quite a way from my house in this video. A few miles. I can’t go on massive adventures much as I have a son with a high level of need. So I only get a few hours a week to do this. Thanks for not being a prick about it though.
@@OffTheBeatenPot Fair enough mate, and thanks for being a good sport about it. I will admit that I "may" have been a little tight with my terse commentary. The important thing is that you keep being you, and you are not put off by assholes like me on the internet. Just remember that when you are talking about skills and solutions, these things can be taught. When you are talking about branded items, they can only be bought. Good luck on your youtube journey mate.
Thanks for this comment. I know what the sentiment was that you’re trying to get across. And thanks for that last quote. ‘…they can only be bought.’ I like it!!
What the fuck. Did I just see you pull your spatula out of the sand whilst talking about "aggressive scraping". Have you ever been camping before this video dude? You literally scraped sand into your pan.
You did see me do that. It was very fine sand that cleaned easily. I have been camping before. It’s only a bit of sand. It’s fine. You’ll be ok brother.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🎉
Well except for heat resistant bacteria
Goes for all cooking I suppose.
I have an Opinel no8 garden knife. But the folding Sous Chef knife is a Cracker Rough Ryder Sous Chef
I’ve ben told a few times about this knife. Intrigued!
