Why I quit Youtube

Cooking in the great outdoors is easier than you think! I started this channel to help offer a helping hand to those wishing to cook in the wilderness! Life has had its tribulations and can make the ol' youTube thing difficult. But here I am!

I like watching Simon a Bloke in the Woods, great mix of content, but more importantly he does some fantastic cooking on his adventures. I think everyone must have different reasons for watching what they do, for me it's always to try and improve what I carry and cook when I'm outside. That is why I subscribe to your channel, a good mix of topics and skills, what more could I want. Family always comes first and KZread is a poor second. Keep doing what you do, and more importantly when you want to do it. All the best Mally

Nice to see you back and i am looking forward to your new videos. You asked who we follow online. I love Vegan Vagabonds. Even though I am not vegan, they have recipes and ideas I would use. I also like what Chef Corso of Monte Boca is doing, and he has even done a couple of colaborations with other hiking KZreadrs. However, and this is a big one for me, although his recipes are simple (10 ingredients or less) a lot of the ingredients are processed foods that you can probably only get in American supermarkets. No good for world travellers. More recently I have been looking for classic dishes, and simplifying the recipes for trail cooking. I am trying to come up with a basic set of recipes that can be made with ingredients from local fresh food/farmers/wet markets. Not just relying on oatmeal, packet soups and noodles. I am also trying to figure out basic pantry ingredients that can easily be carried for bike touring or hiking (salt, pepper, paprika, oil, chili powder, flour, etc.). In answer to the question, what would I like to see? One pot or two pot meals, using tranferable skills, and simple suggestions for substitutions, for people on the road and on a budget. Also, have you thought about collaborations with other hiking/camping KZreadrs, like showing them they don't need to live on dehydrated meals, or fry-ups.Maybe convert them to real food on the trail.

What a great response. Thank you! I follow chef corso and vegan vagabonds. I agree with what you say about corso. He know a his stuff and is making cooking accessible to lots of people. But I find he depends a bit on single use packaged and processed items. I have a video about ‘dry store/ pantry foods that you might find interesting. I will be planning a big trip for later this year and my hope is to document everything I do for a lonng slog away (more than 5 days). And I plan on making videos where I cook meals within a strict budget. I fear that I may have to start doing ‘cost of living’ cooking videos to benefit lots of people. My biggest issue is managing to get prices low while still being ethical! I find that weigh markets (scoop from bins) are great at facilitating this need and luckily I have one near me.
