    Oof, and I thought it hitting 95 to 100 here was bad! I've only been around 120+ temps when I worked at a factory running a mill right out of high school. In the Summer, it could get up to 130 but most days it was 110-120. That factory would've likely been 145-150 if it were located in Vegas! This goes to show just how tough Sporties are too.Stay safe and hydrated out there, thank you for watching!

    Coming form a Road King, the Pan America does a much better job of keeping you warm(er). This winter I rode in temps in the low 30s and it was the first time I didn't need my heated gear. The Pan America does a great job of blocking the wind. And with the grip shields and heated grips, it kept me warm. Before I got the Pan America people were always telling my how great heated grips were. I couldn't figure it out... When my hands get cold, is always the outside on my hands that get cold, with the wind hitting my fingers. I figured heated grips would keep my palm and inside of my hands warm, not the outside where I was having the issue. Well, after using them, I'm a believer! I also know the hand guards help too...

  • @Chase_N

    Ive done high 20’s on the PA with heated gloves and jacket. Totally doable. Turning the jacket up too high strains the stator and you can see the voltage drops as well. No idea how HD expect this bike to support both passenger and pillion with heated garb on, yet they provide 2 ports for it. Go figure.

    Pertinent info. I wasn't aware of the voltage issue with accessories as I've only plugged in my phone. What year is your Pan Am? I know the 2024s got an upgraded stator for more output and a bigger battery. It looks as if H-D either knew or figured out they had an issue with the charging system supporting auxiliary gear (heated gloves, jackets, etc). Thank you for the info and for watching!

    Pretty damn expensive for a dirtbike. And I still don’t understand it has straight tires on it not even Enduro tires. Don’t quite understand them a dirtbike would be much better. I think everybody just likes it because it’s different me personally I say.na. But to each their own.

  • @Chase_N
    @Chase_N3 күн бұрын

    It does more than a dirtbike, think comfy tourer with a little gravel and dirt capability (unless you're a professional rider, but then you could likely even do stuff off road on a Ninja 400). Fire-roads, light gravel roads and hills (like the road I live on) are really what average peoople can handle. The tires are more 80/20 than regular street tires too. I wouldn't do mud or single track on it though. It's like most ADVs, a Swiss Army Knife. It can do a lot, but it won't be great at much of it. Kind of a one bike solution. Except for pounding miles, big ADVs do that extraordinarily well. That's the best way I can explain it. Thank you for watching!

    Pan Am is nice but they need to up their game with materials and finish. The passenger grab rail is cheap plastic, the seat pan is flimsy and the Rev max engines sounds soulless. Pretty hard to justify for the $23k price when the BMW GS and Tiger 1200 are light years ahead.

  • @Chase_N
    @Chase_N4 күн бұрын

    They did the typical H-D "good enough" thing like they do with every other bike they sell. Once you're in, that's when the "Harley Tax" begins and accessories catalog comes out. They try to get you to "upgrade" the bike while you're standing there. "You're already $23K deep, what's a few thousand more😉, plus the Pan Am sounds so much better with the Screamin' Eagle exhaust, it's ONLY another grand" the salesman says to you. But it's not just H-D, BMW and Triumph do the same, they just do it a different way with model tiers. Yamaha too, how many different versions of the Tenere 700 are there at the moment? KTM is the worst, seriously, things like cruise control and custom modes for a predetermined set of miles then the bike shuts them off. Every manufacturer is now trying to game you for every extra dollar they can. Kind of sad really as I actually like all of these manufacturers for various reasons. Thank you for watching!

    Great topic. I generally like the upright seating position and a taller bike. My last bike was a Honda NC700x and I took it off road a lot . When I looked for a bigger bike, the Pan AM was the best bang for the buck with all the bells and whistles. I'm mostly doing roads these days 90/10 and this bike is fabulous. I'm not a brand loyal type of guy, but this bike did open me up the a Harley world that was not available on other brands. Who knows where I will land on my next bike. I have a lot of new friends are Harleys. People always want to talk about this bike. Most do not even realize its a Harley.

  • @Chase_N
    @Chase_N4 күн бұрын

    That's the weirdest thing, when a someone comes up and asks you "Is that really a Harley?". I just can't imagine someone spending the money to get a Yamaha painted over with a bar and shield logo. I had a guy ask me while I was sitting in traffic a few weeks ago. I'm not brand loyal either and I've owned other brands, but due to where I live, repair and parts are most easily accessed at a H-D dealer. If I lived in a big city or Europe, being practical, I might have a different bike. I do 90/10 too, mostly just because of the road I live on though. There are a few people outfitting Pan Ams as sport touring bikes. There's one particular guy in H-D forums Pan Am section with a 17" front wheel, touring tires, and a tune who has his Pan Am pumping out the full 150Hp at the wheel. It's still sort of an oddity, I've only seen 2 other people out riding Pan Ams, one last year. This last week I seen another right by my house, so maybe they're filtering out into the world and becoming a little more common. Thank you for watching!

    After owning a pan America and trying out the much marketed CVO ST on a demo day I just feel bad for guys that think that’s a performance motorcycle.

  • @Chase_N
    @Chase_N4 күн бұрын

    Speaking of CVO STs, I just got an email and completed a survey from H-D about them, about what features I'd want and the price I'd be willing to pay. Lets just say all of my answers boiled down to "your charging too much". There were even questions about if it'd be more enticing if it came with an automatic transmission (I think H-D realized Honda exists and that they have a touring bike). There were questions on semi-auto transmissions too. The Pan Am really is a one ride bike for cruiser/bagger folks, they don't hate it, it's just "meh". Then one day you accept a test ride and by the time you get back, you're looking at your cruiser/bagger a little differently. That being said, I do miss the off the bottom torque on the M8s sometimes. A ride on my cousins Low Rider S or his Street Glide is enough though, and I'm perfectly happy to swap back to my Pan Am. Thank you for watching!

    I guess "it's a weird thing", because you were fortunate enough to find a bike that satisfies all of your needs and wants from a bike. I think that's really cool, finding that kind of satisfaction isn't easy. I'm sure you don't miss the "pucker factor" of the gravel road on the Road King either. Harley really hit it out of the park with the Pan-Am, they don't hang around the showroom floor for long at my local dealer. I like the "Gravel Glide" good nickname, you should copywrite that and sell it to HD. I hope you keep making videos as long as it's fun for you to do. Happy Independence Day.

    Thank you, and honestly it feels weird because you never expect to find that one bike you're content with. It's always "look for the next best thing." I think the only thing I might want is an exhaust and that will soon be covered (I've already paid and I'm working with a company), but even without it I'd still be pleased. Also, "Gravel Glide" is just something goofy I called it when my cousin asked if it was capable of doing long trips like his Street Glide "Dude, it's a Gravel Glide". Happy Independence Day to you too and thank you for watching!

    I have a Pan Am and a 1988 Lowrider, so I have both. The Pan Am is different from a normal Harley Davidson. Although, I'm a bit frustrated with mine because I had an idle problem, where after 30 mins of riding, it fluctuates, then cuts out. It start again straight away and I just have to hold the revs up to keep it running. It has been in the dealers workshop for two weeks now, no answer. I'm assuming it is a split in the inlet manifold, that is opening when it is warm, and messing up the vacuum.

  • @Chase_N
    @Chase_N5 күн бұрын

    That's a strange issue I haven't heard of yet? If it's been 2 weeks, it's best to call them and check daily. If they can't give you an answer, then corporate is next. At least that what the folks on the forums have done when it's taking a long time to get their bikes back. It seems to light a fire under the dealers rear and get them moving. My cousin had an issue with his Street Glide recently and it took the dealer a week and a half to get a little sensor. Luckily, he has a Low Rider he can run around on in the meantime too, only his is a 2021 of the S variety. I hope they get it fixed quick for you! When you find out what it was, let the community here know so we all know what to watch for. Thank you for watching!

    I've owned a 2019 sportster 1200, a 2019 road glide special, a 2023 street bob then bought a little suzuki vstrom 650 and rode that in Canada almost every day rain or shine. Needed more Power! Sold all my Harley's and got a 2022 pan America special Leftover for 10k off sticker and couldn't be happier on a proper Harley that I don't have to worry about checking weather or hoping my rain sock will hold out till I can make it home. Open Air filter is the worst design flaw

  • @Chase_N
    @Chase_N5 күн бұрын

    $10K off the sticker is a deal! Was it a test ride or just researching performance numbers for you? From what most guys say, it's that first test ride. I love cruisers and baggers and was neutral on the Pan Am. But like with most people, you you hear little bits about "It's so fast", "It handles so well", "Oh, the suspension!", so you start to gain a little interest. You try to ignore it because "It can't be that much better than my Fat Bob, Low Rider S, Road/Street Glide, Road King etc.". Then some salesman tosses you the keys and lets you take a Pan Am for a rip. By the time you return, it's over. You go home and think about it, often. Then you run the scenarios of payments, trades, "Do I need a 2nd job?" in your head. One ride and it doesn't matter if it was your type of bike, because it is now. Thank you for watching!

    As someone else said - ride what you like! That said, I bought my PA for a lot of reasons but one of them was that I wanted to *stay* on a Harley as I got older and the baggers are simply too big/heavy for me anymore. Not that I can't muscle it around - I just don't want to anymore! I traded by EGC for my '23 PA and I love it to death. I've probably said it here before - Harley should market this, along with being an 'ADV' bike - as a sport tourer, because that's what I have and plan to continue using it for! It will most likely never see dirt. Peace!

    I was a glutton for punishment. I'd ridden that road for 13 years on Sporties, a Dyna, a Road King, an Aprilia Shiver, and a Ninja ZX6R. I just didn't want to accept there was a better option. One ride on the Pan Am showed me I'd been doing it all wrong. But that happens with a lot of guys who're traditional cruiser/bagger guys who give any ADV a shot. My cousin loves his Street Glide but he said if he lived here he'd do the same as I did after a ride on the Pan Am. He said he'd also like to have one as a 2nd bike too. Some people are too stubborn to give something a chance, but that hasn't been my experience with traditional H-D guys and the Pan Am. Thank you for watching!

    Wow, not many are able or want to get back on 2 wheels after being on the trike! That's great and congratulations! I think things have changed and the thoughts by non-H-D riders about how H-D riders hate liquid cooled bikes is based on how years ago the V-Rod was given the cold shoulder. Things have really changed though. Every group ride or bike night I go to, and even occasionally when stopping for gas, I have traditional cruiser/bagger/Dyna guys ask questions. They're interested, 150HP is the usual reason. It's when I tell them about the comfort and suspension that they really perk up. It truly is game changing. ADVs (at least large ones like the PA and BMW GS) aren't really something the average idiot like me should take "off-road". The occasional gravel/dirt road is the worst guys do on ADVs, and even then it's rare. I'd bet the amount of guys who own ADVs who've never been off pavement or concrete is very high. If I didn't live on a gravel road, I'm not sure I ever would've tried an ADV. But as you seen in the vid, the "urban jungle" has plenty of roads that'll make an ADV's capabilities shine. A crossover can do the same and also not need to be so tall in the seat too. Oh no, lol, crossovers may be the future, we should prepare ourselves. Thank you for watching!

    I agree about the adventure bike being the one to have and for me it's the Pan America. It's just plain fun to ride, power when you want/need it and the ride is second to none. I was on a group ride a few weeks ago and noticed the same things you observed about the riders ahead of me. They would bounce out of the seat, back wheel jumping off the ground when hitting some bumps or potholes. I've also had all types of bikes with the last three being Harley baggers and this PA is, hands down, my favorite. I laughed when you said you were old enough to be someone's dad. I'm a dad and a granddad! Enjoy the rides and keep the shiny side up!

    Thanks, and it's great to hear you're enjoying the Pan Am! Have you had the experience of people asking you questions on group rides when you stop? I always thought I was the only one observing but I guess others are too. When it comes to the PA, it's still an oddity to a lot of H-D riders. I start getting questions usually during the 1st stop. Like when everyone has to slow down for train tracks and I zip right over them. The questions start about the suspension, then it's onto the HP. As always, thank you for watching and it's great you have kids and grandkids- you can pass on the riding bug!

    @@Chase_N I have had riders and even some non-riders ask about it. Curious because it's different. I'm surprised at the number of folks that didn't realize that Harley made "a bike like that". No, you're not alone. It's hard not to notice the others bounce on the bumps.😄 And we've been there! I was talking to a Harley dealer and he said if Harley would incorporate some form of the active suspension into their street bikes that it would be a game changer. And I agree.

    @@ski4ahigh215 lol, I actually had a guy ask me "Is that really a Harley?". Like you, I'm surprised they haven't added the suspension to at least the CVOs or maybe the Low Rider ST and Heritage Softails. My only guess is there's a weight limit at which it functions properly.

    At the very beginning of the video I was expecting you to hit the throttle and either go around or split through the bikes! Seriously 😂 I may be in a smaller group but I fell in love with the Pan America the first time I saw it. Immediately. I was thinking about a BMW GS but am not a fan of the front end. The bike looks like it has a beak! As soon as I saw the Pan Am I knew I had to have it.

  • @Chase_N
    @Chase_N12 күн бұрын

    Oh, I considered throttling out, but I adhere to polite motorcycle society's rules and etiquette. Splitting through a bunch of fellow riders would be frowned upon I'm sure. I thought the same when I saw the Pan Am, it looked better than the "beaked" bikes. I liked the Africa Twin and the Aprilia Tuareg for the same reason. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way and thank you for watching!

    Nice, I moved here from Northern Ohio. I ran teams who delivered box trucks here for a few years and fell in love every time I visited. When I had a chance to move here, I jumped on it. Much like Ohio, Pennsylvania's countryside is beautiful and underappreciated too. It's true of many states really. We delivered to Pittsburgh a bunch and stopped at Primanti Bros often. Now they have a PBros in Triadelphia, WV close to where I live so I get my fix there.

    I'm getting close to 10K miles, still running great. I just did an oil change and I'm trying to pick up a set (4) of Screamin' Eagle spark plugs (double platinum instead of the OE copper plugs) to finish my 10K mile service (spark plugs are due at 10K) when I pull off the tank to clean the air filter. You can't order them online so you have to order or find them at a dealership. Coppers are $15 a piece, SEs are $40 for 2. So, $5 extra per plug which should last another 5K-10K miles (at least that was my experience on car and truck engines). Seems like a no brainer. Now I'm going to be watching out for the fuel pump though. Thank you for the heads up and for watching, and you're entered for the shirt!

    If you take apart an HD filter, the poor quality is apparent IMMEDIATELY. 👎👎

  • @Chase_N
    @Chase_N17 күн бұрын

    The new updated filters for my Pan America are surprisingly well made and have way better flow than the old filters used in my Sportsters, my TC Dyna, or my M8 Road King. I might have to do a video and saw one open to show the difference. That being said, this video was during the pandemic and I think they were using a supplier who just wasn't up to the challenge. I haven't heard of the issue returning. I have family members and friends who're running HD filters (they religiously check them for the defect I found before install of course) and they've been fine. Unfortunately, things have went downhill as far as quality control in manufacturing all over the world. It's best to stay vigilant. Thank you for watching!
