And One Idea For The 1250 Too!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I feel like we've been good little lads and lasses and deserve a treat. Plus, there's really only one thing missing from the Pan America which Harley-Davidson was able to add to the Low Rider ST.

I wish that they would make the Bronx concept that they came out with a couple years ago with the 1250 engine in it!

lol, I love your channel and watch it all the time! As far as the Bronx, absolutely, but they know people want it so they won't release it. Look at how long it took them to do a FXRT style Low Rider when there were guys out there doing it since the mid 00s. There was a scrambler concept too that looked interesting I'd love to see also. Thank you for commenting and all the cool older bikes you showcase on your channel! Also, thank you for watching!

Coming from Racing motocross and hair scrambles from the 80's well into the 90's on various sizes of bikes and in comparison from the Cr500r and the Xr650r to this wonderful machine I'd say a 600cc would be more than adequate with the current suspension and definitely need to weigh in around 400 pounds to make me a believer that my Xr650r could actually sit and collect dust over the current Pan America, I really love this bike for touring and light off pavement riding but when it's time to go on the off road scene with the boys I'll be on my Honda for now😢 , absolutely love this 2021 Pan America Special I have recently bought at the age of 55 😎

Would love to see a 975 PA and I would be interested, but they just couldn't get the weight down enough to make it worth it. At least that's what I heard.

There are a few ways (some I mentioned) but it would have to be 500lbs or under to make it worth it. More aluminum or magnesium, less electronics, smaller fuel tank (I've recorded on video 50mpg out of my PAS before so I know a 975 could do at least that) maybe 4.5 gallons, a smaller fairing, and a few other things can shed weight fast. If they could do it, still include cruise & traction control along with basic abs, it could even outsell the PA1250S. Basically, they'd have an H-D version of an Africa Twin with more HP if they can hit the promised 115HP they were supposed to have in the Bronx. It'd be hard not to consider it especially with no valve checks adjustments like every competitor requires. Man, do I wish I had a say in H-Ds model lineup. I still expect another model drop this year so we'll see what happens.Thank you for the comment, it's always fun to think about the hypothetical. Thank you for watching too!

That looks like a cool parking lot to play around it. I'm into touring so I do not have a problem with the bigger bike, but for serious off road, you are 100% right. Smaller! I think if the 975 to be a serions off road contender it needs to come in at 440 lbs.. To do that they need to do a lot more than shrink the engine. Why are we all hung up on 975? Thats still a liter size bike. How about a 700?

Like what you say about the speakers…..for my money it would be nice if they made an area for a storage pouch either side, so you could put some stuff in there eg…mobile phone or multitool!

I've seen a Chinese manufacturer makes a tool case that mounts in the rear. Of course, quality is a concern but it's under $100 and made out of aluminum so it might be worth a look. If you're interested here's the link- www.ebay.com/itm/175603882899 Thank you for watching!

Have the Chinese tool box on my ‘21. Matches the H-D panniers and top box. Beware the grab bar needs to be changed out from the factory plastic one. Same company offers a metal replacement that is a significant upgrade….at a cost.

Mate, a 975 will still be too heavy IMO for off-roading. In Australia, the PAm is not selling notwithstanding it is a fantastic on-road sports/tourer for single and 2-up riding - just add hard panniers and a comfie seat. You don't have to ask me how I know. Where is the market? Harley has [again] missed the boat by releasing the X500 in on-road configuration. The X500 should have been the light weight sibling Adv bike of the PAm. Here is the proof in the pudding: PAm not selling here but pre-orders for the new 450cc Himalayan reached 500 and 300 pre-orders for the new CF Moto 450 and that's just in Australia - which is considered a relatively small market. I suggest that many more folks want a smaller size Adv bike instead of bigger and still relatively heavy mid-sized ones.

For the middleweight segment I think 500lbs and under would be a big seller for casual off roaders. You're right, if you're serious about going off road then yeah, lighter is better and 450-500cc bikes would be the better idea. If either CFMoto or Enfield had put simple cruise control on their 450s, they'd likely be the biggest selling ADVs planet-wide overnight. It seems H-D isn't the only one who misses the boat just a little. At the very least a scrambler type in H-Ds 440-500 flavors would be nice. We'd never see it here in the States either way as H-D won't import or sell any of the smaller displacement H-Ds here. I'm assuming because either H-D thinks it'll "water down" the brand or because they think people would outright reject Chinese or Indian made products. It's nice hearing perspectives on how motorcycling is in other countries, thank you, and thank you for watching too!

In my opinion, the way to make a 975 that would be different enough/cheaper/not compete with the 1250 would be to build a scrambler model with the same chassis. Start hacking off fairing, guards, they could easily cut off 40+lbs of crap and make a more attractive bike.

They did have a scrambler version of the Sportster 975, here- cimg0.ibsrv.net/cimg/www.hdforums.com/1600x900_85-1/268/Harley-Davidson-s-Revolution-Max-Lineup-Set-to-Expand-006-597268.jpg Looks cool to me. A scram would be great but I think they want to go middleweight ADV as they already had a leak of their RA975 designation. Here's an article I found from 2022 www.advrider.com/leaks-show-harley-davidson-pan-america-975-is-coming. You're right though, a scram would be the fastest way to lose weight. It'd be a fun bike for blasting around on too. Thank you for watching!

I would assume they haven't done it and probably won't do it because the middleweight ADV market is already oversaturated. You have KTM, Husqvarna, Ducati, Yamaha and Honda, also you have a range of scramblers. On top of that you have the sport touring range like Tracer, S1000xr and such. I don't think Harley would have any luck with such a bike. With all due respect and IMHO, of course Pan Am is a unique bike. First they are competing with only 4 bikes - the GS, the big KTM, the Triumph and the Ducati. At the same time HD looks better and offers a truly "honest" big ADV bike in that they haven't marketed the offroading with a monster as such. They have built a perfect heavy true 80/20 crossover and that played out well for them. Middleweight won't be that.

I have always owned two bikes but this year only one anymore …… 2023 PAS I like the idea of 750-975 PAS. But I will never own another bike if it doesn’t have cruise control. More storage isn’t an issue plenty and I added small tank bag for phone etc. Radio not big deal cant hear it and helmet headset blue tooth with my phone is better for sound quality.

I don't ride with a music at all but for guys coming from Glides, it'd be a draw as they really like having speakers. I've never owned a bike with a radio, but there are guys who view that as a requirement. It's good to see I'm not the only one who won't go without cruise control ever again. It's such an upgrade, I've never met anyone who gets it on a bike who'll go back to being without it. Thank you for watching!

+1 for in helmet audio. Nothing is worse than a group of geezer glides rolling up, each one playing a blaring a different Five Flavor Fruit Punch song.

@@FXFBS540 lol, that's exactly what happens on group rides. 20 guys on Glides all playing something different at every stop makes you feel ill as your brain tries to focus on a single song.

Would be nice to lose about a hundred pounds or so for the smaller engine but that would be asking quite a lot.

I agree, that's why I said I'd even be happy with 500lbs. But I'm an optimist too, and with the replacement of some steel frame with aluminum (likely the rear section), getting rid of all the ride height electronics, smaller airbox, smaller fuel tank (should have better MPGs with a smaller engine), no adaptive lighting or electronics for it, and with a slightly smaller fairing it might be possible. Thank you, I had to actually think about what it might take! Also, thank you for watching!

450-475lbs would good to go, so they need to strip it down, i decided i didn't want to pick my panny up in the woods,......but its a heck of a touring motorcycle, so i'm keeping it, especially since i just did a slip on and bought mosko bags for it, so i bought a husky 701....gonna be way better off road...........as for the speakers, nahhhh, you have them in your helmet don't you? i hate it when i have to hear someones else's shitty music LOL

I'm actually looking at 300s to 700s right now for possible purchase next year. Likely for doing some really stupid off-road stuff. I just took my Pan Am on a rough road that I likely shouldn't have with stock tires but I made it, so the bike is decently capable. The 701 looks nice and I heard Husky may come out with a 700cc-ish Norden Variant, maybe even a 790cc version. If I had a Husky/KTM dealer anywhere near me I might look into one but the closest is 100 miles away. The speakers are to tempt Bagger Dads. I don't listen to music while riding (I'd rather not hear anyone else's either) but having it available could convert more traditional Bagger Dads to the Pan Am. Kind of like how I've seen Bagger Dads swapping down to Low Rider STs because they can get the bluetooth speaker pod setup. Thank you for watching!
