this is from the TV series that didn't even last a whole season, and each episode had the police car doing something different at the beginning. and if you have never seen Leslie Neilson when he was a much younger fellow and serious actor, you should check out the time-less cult classic Forbidden Planet (1956) as a starship captain!

Roger Christian, the director, was production designer on the first Star Wars and Alien (winning an Academy Award for the former and getting a nomination for the latter). He was also second-unit director on Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace. Production Designer Patrik Tatopoulos worked on a bunch of high-profile movies, including Independence Day. Composer Elia Cmiral scored John Frankenheimer's Ronin two years earlier. There are several very talented Actors in this. And I read the book, it *was* possible to make a decent adaptation... So yeah, I really enjoy watching this flick but only with the right "What the fuck were they smoking?"-mindset.

Favorite thing to know about this movie is Mel Brooks wanted it to sound like a real western, so he put an ad in the business paper looking for a "Frankie Laine-type singer". Two days later, Frankie Laine just shows up in his office, ready to do the song.

I saw a meme yesterday where there was a picture of the French guy on the tower and there was old English text above it that said "have you been taunted by this man, you might be entitled to compensation". I tell you I laughed so hard I had to run all thrmway back to my bedroom just to take my asthma pump only to be drinking tea thrn suddenly thinking it about the meme then laughing again and choke on my tea

I know I'm 2 months late to this, but I just found your channel and LOVE your reactions to great, crazy movies like this! So many of the visual jokes get missed by a lot of other reaction channels, but you guys are picking up on everything, which is rad. One thing though, and I don't know if you see it in a full version of this reaction somewhere, but you have to watch Zucker/Abrahams films all the way to the end of the credits. Throughout the credits of their movies there are more jokes inserted at random points, so you have to scan through it to see them like little Easter eggs.

"This movie's so afraid of being genuine." That's a huge problem with a lot of movies and shows now. So many of them feel the need to diffuse serious and genuine moments with cheap jokes.

Interesting bit of trivia: The Colonel is played by Richard Crenna, the man who played Colonel Trautman in the Rambo films so they got the man to parody the very character he played.
