Oh heck yea, do a part II of Blade as well! This reaction was so smooth and cool :D Blade II is in many ways better, since it explains the lore and kinda has some different ideas, which overall play good with the movie. You can skip the 3rd part, that one kind of sucked imo. However it was still Blade, soooo.... You really don't need to skip it xD Still much better than any of the new vampire movies anywhere. Very close in the ballpark lies the Underworld series. Very good one too, but this series (of movies) shows a battle between Vampires & Warewolfs (Humans are mixed up there as well) with proper gore, not like the lame Twilight saga xD I'd love to see a reaction to Underworld movies as well, pretty please :D

Marital art trained actors always put on amazing fight performances. It really should be a requirement for action stars not only to make them look amazing in the movie cause they do it well and don't need to use stunt doubles, but also for a safety. Brandon Frasier being a prime example

He has also trained in Capoeira under Mestre Jelon Vieira and in a number of other disciplines including Kung Fu at the USA Shaolin Temple and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing. Blade II is worth a watch, For Blade III, opinions differ. It depends on who you ask. Wesley had got a reputation for being extraordinarily difficult to work with during filming. He would only communicate with the director via post-it notes and at one point he refused to open his eyes during a scene, so they had to 'open' his eyes in post production. It was also said that they had to use his double for a lot of scenes because Snipes wouldn't cooperate. His career sort of tanked after that.

They relented and had him become the main character and finish out the movie due to test audiences bonding with Blade and nobody else. They sabotaged it on purpose and he was contractually obligated to finish it. The whole money fraud thing was beyond stupid since reportedly they were other high level people who owed way more in back taxes and got off with a slap on the wrist. The blood rave scene and the music has become incredibly iconic and the way they introduce Snipes on screen immediately lets you know, this guy is for real! Fun Facts: Stan Lee was supposed to have a cameo as one of the elder vampires but due to scheduling conflicts that never happened and Udo Kier, the vampire that slapped Frost, accidentally hit him for real during one take and kept apologizing after it Also Blade 1 and 2 for me still hold the record for the sickest fight scenes in a Marvel Movie to this day (Might have a little bit to do with the fact that Snipes actually knows martial arts)

Donal Logue, the actor who plays Quinn the burnt to a crisp vampire, injured his jaw while filming the hospital scene and had to be rushed to an actual emergency room. He was still in the full body burn makeup and scared the hell out of the hospital staff and other patients.

Blade is widely considered the first "good" Marvel movie (their attempts at live actions movies before this were poorly executed). I think one of the reasons it holds up so well is that it's an intense R rated movie, while most current superhero movies are PG-13. The only things in the movie that I think have aged particularly badly are the CGI and the ridiculous amount of times the F word is used. Fun Fact: Blade's fighting style, with all the kicks and spins like at 31:02, is capoeira; a Brazilian martial art that incorporates elements of dance and acrobatics. If you guys like Wesley Snipes, I recommend Demolition Man, a cult classic where he plays the main villain.

Such an amazing reaction, so glad you loved it... one of my Fave films. Not sure if it's been mentioned, but this is regarded as the reason we now have Marvel movies. marvel was essentially bankrupt, and on the brink of closing forever... this film brought in so much money it saved them, and they realised movies were a good way to go! (Abridged version of course). Also, if you loved Wesley Snipes in this, you will LOVE Demolition man, also starring Sandra Bullock & Sylvester Stallone ;) ;)

YES!! One of my favorite Badass vampire hunters! Before Wesley Snipes was cast as Blade, Denzel Washington, LL Cool J, Michael Jai White, and Laurence Fishburne were considered for the role. Snipes was originally going to be cast as Black Panther, but production was cancelled or put in turn around. Snipes was then cast. An alternative ending was filmed but cut from the movie, where Morbius was going to be the antagonist for Blade 2. Thankfully, this never happened, as we got the Reapers instead.

Fun Fact: Westley Snipes have an cameo in What We Do In The Shadow (FX Show) as his Blade character. I'm extremely happy that Blade is getting a solo and M rated game, neither 2026 nor 2027. Plus, the new director of the new MCU Blade is getting R rated with the writers from Logan and the creator of True Detective (HBO Max). I'm looking forward to some R rated films from MCU and DC Elseworld, such as Joker 2 (2024).

Man, I saw this movie at university when it first released and I've loved it ever since. You're right about it being heightened without intentional camp or a nod and a wink. The big difference between older superhero movies and modern ones is sincerity. Since the MCU they all feel too embarrassed to be sincere so they call themselves out constantly. It's tiring, but hey, it makes Blade feel fresh 25 years later.

  • @felixmurley-anderson5620

You’ve bought the ticket, now you two have gotta stay on the ride till the end 😂 Each movie in the trilogy has its own special thing. This one is pure action movie cliche that also happens to be a comic book movie. It has so many of those OMG moments on the first viewing; one of my faves wasn’t in this edit, where after Deacon glues himself back together and Blade mouths “what the f**k”. Blade 2 was directed by Del Toro so it leans even further into the spooky/goth aesthetic - plus it has so many people in it that went on to do other things that I GUARANTEE you’ll do the “point at the screen” thing at least once. Blade Trinity combines the OG look with the cameo power. The dialogue is not great, but it’s still a great piece of turn-your-brain-off cinema. Plus you get to see Ryan Reynolds trying out his Deadpool material a decade before the actual movie.

Something to add to your potential future movies list is 1997's Spawn. It's a lot like blade, but less refined, and cheaper, but still trying to capture that grimdark 80's and 90's comic style that would go on to inspire The Matrix and other NeoNoir films and stories that owuld be all over the early 2000s.

This is one of those rare movies that knows exactly what it is, knows exactly what it's trying to do, and nails it perfectly. It just works on every level. Oh, and Wesley himself came up with Blade's fighting style in these movies. It's a bit mixture of a handful of different disciplines that he's already skilled in. PLEASE do Blade 2! It's at least as good as this one. The third movie not so much...fun, non-spoilery fact about #2, the guy who played the vampire who lost his hand to Blade's "pig sticker" in the library scene in this one returns as a completely different vampire in #2.

Wesley Snipes manages to portrait Blade as a character who doesn't just seem cool from the view of the audience but as someone actively tries and 100% succedes at being the coolest mofo within his own universe. those little smirks and gestures, basically telling himself "yep, I'm just that cool." love it.
