Keanu has said on TV, during an interview, that it is his most favourite movie, and the one he would most like to make a sequel for... and I couldn't agree more. Loved Viggo in The Prophecy but come on, Walken as Gabriel for that movies crown. Also, DeNiro, Angel Heart hands down number 1 for movies and John Glover in Brimstone for TV. As a thought though throw in Nicholson and you nearly have my top 5. If you wanted to keep it strictly to the big screen, Gabriel Byrne in end of days for number 4, with the small screen included pushed to 8 (Supernatural) and TBH I would rate Pacino above Viggo....... Sod it, top 10 DeNiro, Stormare, Nicholson, Pacino, Glover, Curry (Legend), Mortensen, Byrne, Pellegrino (Supernatural), Hurley (Bedazzled remake). I may have picked that last one for reasons other than acting ability.

@@Dc-alpha Oh, yeah. Walken is great in The Prophecy. Angel Heart is ok, but DeNiro is largely playing DeNiro (again). Same with Nicholson and, to some extent, Pacino. @@StormhavenGaming Thing is, you can say that about most of these performances. For me it's how immersive to that story the portrayal is, coupled with how menacing, devilish, evil and straight up frightening the portrayal is. TBF, in another story and with less jarring editing (which I think may have been the point, to unnerve but went to far) I would rate Viggo higher. DeNiro, Pacino and Nicholson 100% were "playing themselves". In all three cases though they were a better fit. Viggo was menacing but doesn't fit as well, mainly due to the edit in some scenes TBF. As for my number 10.... look I can't defend it but Cosby in Max Devlin is now a no no so at least replace with something light.

To be fair though, those movies were based on very different comics than the current wave. "Comic book movie" isn't really a genre just like "Book movie" also isn't one. It doesn't make sense to group together movies that have such wildly different source material. Just like you wouldn't compare DOOM and the Super Mario Bros Movie simply because they're both based on video games.

Constantine's dryness and cut to the bone way to explain things is wonderful. The cast is just so wonderful. Lucifer is scary as fuck. And Tilda as Gabriel...considering that angels are supposed to not have gender...to be both and none at the same time, it's a perfect fit. Also, Chaz pretty much takes Gabriel position as angel.

If you check movies from 2005 you'll instantly see why this movie went completely forgotten until today's time. + Endless amounts of people watched this movie on pirated websites. Nowadays especially in europe you hardly find any pirate websites to watch movies because of an annoying law. Once constantine had been shown on TV or anywhere else it got recognized instantly. Also Keanu's huge roles with John Wick must've brought people to his older movies.

PLEASE READ MY COMMENT. Hello Chris and Altaf! My name is Lucas and I'm from Brazil. I recently discovered your channel and I just LOVED it! I watched some of your videos and came to this one. And that's what I wanted your attention on. This movie was one of my stepfather's favorites, who raised me and I miss it so much. We watched this movie NUMEROUS TIMES, and we still always had a good time. But today I had a surprise, I didn't know about the existence of this post-credit scene... And I don't think my father knew either... At first I was very sad, because he left without knowing that his favorite movie had a secret ... But now I feel that through me, and also through you, he saw firsthand something new from his favorite movie. I just wanted to leave here for you my gratitude for this moment.

It feels like it's been ages since there has been a movie release that has just been straight up cool like a lot of things from this era. Just straight up fun, for adults but with some of that magic "I'm watching a movie and I love it" feeling from childhood too (just more jaded). Also, I worked at a cinema when this came out and we gave out free temporary tattoos like Constantine's forearm tattoos with every ticket. It was such a blast and seeing how much fun people had with it was awesome.

Great reaction guys. Constatine is a fantastic "dark" movie. It came out during a decade of similarly occult toned movies (Devil's Advocate, End of Days, 9th Gate, etc.) and the start of quality comic book-based films. That perfect conflux gave us Constatine. It isn't fully faithful to the source material, but what we got was amazing. Glad you watch it.

The film is a BIG departure from the comics but is still very solid and fun to watch. John Constantine in the comics uses much more magic, less "parafernalia weaponry" even though it does have artifacts and weapons and such. In the comics Constantine is pretty sure to live a long life because he has sold his soul to THREE different demon lords so until they decide who deserves it more he's pretty much safe-ish

  • @starbrand3726

This movie drops so many clues to Chaz's secret ANGELIC nature, like... John treats Chaz like crap because he knows what he is. (With the same distane he treats Gabriel.) Chaz can see the demon in the mirror that drops on his taxi without being effected by it. (He sees it as the mirror first flies out of the window face down then it flips over.) Chaz can't get into the neutral club because he's not neutral. Chaz knows tons of demonic lore. Chaz made the Holy shotgun shells. Chaz blesses the water. (Only Holy people can bless something.) Chaz blesses the woman with a prayer and is then killed. And according to biblical lore humans can go to Heaven but they CAN'T become Angels. So Chaz appearing as an angel literally means he was one the whole time. Now, if you rewatch the movie, knowing this about Chaz ahead of time, you'll see it all more clearly.

Things I never noticed till you guys watched this years after I had seen this: The constant crosses. But I also just noticed the crosses on the water jugs in Constantine's apartment. I had always focused more on the water jugs jiggling cos the demons were coming for Angela. But now I noticed the crosses scratched into them. That explains why he has so much water so hell always have a supply of holy water. Also it's kinda apt that Angela is named Angela and it's set in Los Angeles. I ha noticed the pregnant virgin imagery with the way Mamon came through in Angela's stomach and how she felt something in her belly when she got pulled away through the elevators and buildings. But then I noticed that John, Beeman and the priest who are all psychic were never targets of Mamon. But all the women were the psychics that were targeted. The little Chinese girl at the beginning, Isabel and Angela were all female and that the whole prophecy about how the blood of God is needed to birth the son of the devil. The whole birth imagery wis so subtle there.

This movie is like 90% rule of cool. One of my favorite bits about this movie is that no one eats in it- even in the scene where they’re “eating” they just shuffle the food around the plate, or pick it up and put it down. It’s some classic acting choices to deal with multiple takes and the fact that the food was probably cold for most of them.

This is definitely an interesting movie. I will say that the Constantine of the comics is so much deeper and more interesting of a character. The action is the most out of place aspect when you compare this to the comics. Constantine is a shady, morally ambiguous character, and the work as a whole doesn't neatly fit into a hollywood blockbluster formula. Not trying to take away from the movie at all. Keanu Reeves is always delightful, and the movie has a lot of positives going for it. The ending where Constantine deals with the devil is perhaps the most true to the original set of stories that you get. He's always trying to get more powerful entities to do his dirty work for him. Keep up the good work, guys. I'm loving the reactions!

I always felt this movie had the same campy vibe as the first Mummy movie. They each went hard on their modern portrayal of their genre (noir and adventure pulp stories), and they both ended up having Rachel Weisz, lol. There's just something so charming about the combination of a wild premise and setting, with the show taking itself seriously. Other greats that do that are like Ghostbusters, or Indiana Jones, etc. I know this movie didn't follow the comics perfectly, but it was a great version nonetheless and I hope the sequel does go forward as it really is a fun version of the universe they've set up.

Saw this in theaters as a kid. Not only do I really fking love Constantine as a comic character, but the line "cats are good. They are half in half out either way." It literally means cats are here around us. But they can also be a hell spawn, or a gods gift. Always saw that as interesting. And I guess I've always seen people like that. Only problem with people? They don't give a shit about anything other than themselves. Love is a joke. You can love someone and cheat. You can love someone and lie to them. You can love someone and block them from your entire life. Nothing matters.
