The part of the pizza eating chaos at the beginning still blows my mind, since Kevin's father throws away his ticket and passport in a blink-and-miss-it moment. Never seen that when watching as a kid, 25 years later mind has been blown. Kevin would have stayed home no matter what.

It's part of the realism this movie portrays. The passports are drying up and they're going to give it to every family member before leaving for the airport (small conversation the next morning in the staircase), and since Kevin's sleeping alone upstairs they don't notice because there's none left. It's pretty amazing how the writers thought of these little details.

@@alexandremclean6211 Part of the realism for me was the entire family shitting on Kevin and when he finally snaps and bites back he is treated as though he's the only one causing drama. The fantasy is the family realizing that they were jerks and apologizing.

Rapidfire fun facts for those unaware (or did not watch the Movies That Made Us episode): -Chris Collumbus originally was selected to direct National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation... but because Chevy Chase was acccting like a gigantic douche (as he's sadly known for), he called up John Hughes to tell him that he should not do this... and before he even said "I don't think I should do this", John Hughes told him "I don't think you should do this." Thus, Collumbus got Home Alone and Christmas Vacation got a new director. -The house from Home Alone is just a few miles down the street to the one from Planes, Trains and Automobiles. -It was originally distributed by Warner Bros.... who almost cancelled the movie entirely. Before that however, one of the crewmembers (I don't remember his name) and John Hughes got in touch with the Fox CEO, who loved the idea and, as the WB representative arrived to tell everyone to pack up their stuff, the man who got in touch called Fox, they said "You're now a Fox picture" and he went to the rooms where the Warner rep was at before him and told them that they were a Fox picture and to keep working. After that, the Warner person and the crewmember met and the guy told the Warner rep "You're fired". -For the snow scene, they used potato flakes for a few of the snowflakes... and they then rotted and it stank the area. -The inside of the Home Alone house was actually filmed in a gymnasium in a school. The flooded basement was filmed in said school's pool. -When Joe Pesci threatened to bite Culkin's fingers one at a time, he actually bit one... by accident. That terrified Culkin. -Daniel Stern originally left the project for reasons I don't really remember, so they got Dan Roebuck instead. He and Pesci had no chemistry, so they got Stern back (himself realising what an idiot he was)... and the magic clicked: they had a GREAT chemistry. Which didn't come from nowhere: They were actually best friend and worked together before in a movie beforehand. -The angry mumblimg we hear from Pesci was made by the guy himself. In fact, he insisted on it. Also, he told Collumbus that whenever he reads a script, if It's not a Scorsese script, he always has to add "Fuck" whenever he reads it (i.e: If it says "How are you today, Mr. Anderson?", he'd say "How the fuck are you doing today, Anderson you fuckin' wad?". I encourage anyone to correct infos that I got wrong or add details that I forgot to mention (or couldn't remember) for each and everyone.

Joe Pesci also set himself up a swear jar as to not cuss in front of the kids. It took him a few jars until he was able to get through his first scene as the cop. Daniel Stern has arachnophobia so the scene where he screams about the spider falling on his face isn't all acting. The photo of Kevin's older brother Butch's girlfriend is just the same actor in a wig. Hughes did ruin some poor girl's life by casting a girl in the role.

Fun fact: Daniel Stern was originally wanted for the role but had prior commitments, so Daniel Robuck was cast. They shot several scenes with Robuck, but Stern was eventually able to make time to film Home Alone, so they scrapped the Robuck scenes, and redid the scenes with Stern. Much like Back to the Future with Eric Stolz filming Marty's scenes until Micheal J. Fox came on board and took over. Robuck apparently had bad chemistry with Pesci, so thank God things worked out to get Stern for the role. Can't imagine it any other way!

The part that always killed me about Buzzs story with the shovel slayer was what he did with the bodies. It's like, first off, the trash can isn't big enough to fit a single body, much less multiple. Second, he claims it turns them to mummies instead of dissolved them or something, this means there are mummies somewhere laying around. And there isn't enough evidence to convince him? No officer, i just collect mummies. i used to be an archeologist on the weekends. Lol yea right.

I just came across your channel recently and really enjoy it. I don't know if this is how it works but two movies I'd love for you to watch is Big Trouble. Has an amazing cast and really funny, and a Christmas move (I know I'm late) The night before. Love your channel!

18:06 I have always loved this movie it's the one most favorite from my childhood..along with part 2..this scene here makes me think about a Stephen King movie wich I was also a very big fan of..amazing that a filmmaker took al those elements wich scares a kid but enjoys it and itś audience at the same time

I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this movie certainly...even tragedy...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese...😞

The van scene with Kevin almost being hit and his actual brother Fuller being squished by the chair were filmed in reverse. Pretty smart

You know what makes the look Fuller gives him even funnier? Fuller is played by McCauley Culkin’s actual younger brother. That probably wasn’t so much acting as just straight up giving him a look he’d actually given his brother innumerable times before.

The best part about Buzz's girlfriend is that they didn't wanna use an actual girl for the pic, so it's the directors son (I think, definitely the son of someone from the staff)

The comments about during the ripping bag scene were right on. I think it's in general, everyone is in a big hurry today. I always think back to Brooks Hatlen in the letter he writes to the buys back at Shawshank, "the world gone and got itself in a big damn hurry"

I worked two straight Christmas shopping seasons at a department store electro ics department in 1990 and 1991. Both years, qe had to have a VHS copy of Home Alone plying on a loop from late-November to Christmas Eve. I could probably go my whole life never seeing Home Alone ever again and remain content.
