This is less horror and more epic fantasy, but I really love the genre shift. My favorite Evil Dead movie. Also, fun fact: the original ending for the movie was supposed to be Ash waking up in a post-apocalyptic London screaming "I slept too long" before it fades to black.

I've never seen the ending in this video, I've only seen the 'slept too long' one. If I recall the way it happens is that the wise man tells him to only take 5 drops of the potion, he takes 2 then gets distracted by something, then takes 5 more drops, then wakes up way in the future. Also, the first time I saw it i'm sure it was called Medievel Dead.

Yeah; i'm from Europe and saw that "slept too long" ending originally too, when i watched it as a kid; it honestly bummed me out becouse i felt bad for him not getting the happy ending he deserved. As i found out later, it was the original ending but was changed for the USA market to the happy one seen here, becouse the test audience was just as bummed out as i was and wanted something happier. Since Ash is from the USA, i'll take that one as canon; even more so becouse of the series he later starred in 😊

When he asked about what happened to Sheila, GLaDOS from Portal finds records that one her and Ash's direct descendents is Brock Sampson from The Venture Brothers. @@skapunker21Not to get into anything political, but what you mentioned made me think...Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams feels like the stereotypical American character from a global perspective. And specifically in Army of Darkness: arrogant and a bit selfish and pigheaded, not too bright but acts cocksure, brash and rude at times, but all of that played for laughs with him knowing he's way in over his head. And when the chips are down and you have been decent to him, he's got your back and can and will get shit done. Yeah...sounds like America. lol and tbh, while Steve Rogers may be the ideal rep for America, Ash is more realistic and still a positive model.

It was supposed to be him overslept in his car during the time travel phase, and ended he woke up in a post apocalyptic London region. In the end, he never got home. From medieval time, he went further into the future 😂. In the end, it's actually good that Sam Raimi reshot the ending of Army of Darkness. The original ending had Ash sleeping in hibernation, intending to wake up in his own time, but he oversleeps and wakes up in a post-Apocalyptic future with the intention of it leading into a fourth movie. But given the uncertainty that a fourth movie would be financed, Raimi reshot a new ending that ended Ash's story back in the present day, which turned out to be the right decision since both issues with the studio and Raimi wanting to move on to other projects (like Spider-Man) would've resulted in the Evil Dead movies ending unresolved.

Klatu, Verada, Nicto. That comes from the 1951 movie The Day The Earth Stood Still. It's what Patricia Neal had to say to the robot Gort to stop him from destroying the Earth if Michael Rennie's character was killed. The minute the wise man said it, I was in tears laughing. Because I got the reference right away. This is the genius of Sam Raimi.

I grew up loving Sam Raimi's work, even though I didnt realize it until after the Spiderman movies. Hercules and Xena were my 2 favorite shows in the 90s when I was a kid. Evil Dead was the first movie I watched with my first real GF (Halloween party in her parents basement, how fitting). Army of Darkness was the first movie my SO and I ever watched together. (If she didn't get my humor then of course we wouldn't work!). Bruce Campbell is an all time favorite actor. I love everything I've seen him in from Evil Dead to Burn Notice to Jack of All Trades or My Name is Bruce. His books are hilarious and just enjoyable to read. Last story: My last name is Williams, and lately SO and I have been discussing baby names and she unironically asked me what I thought of the name Ash, completely forgetting Evil Dead exists. I agreed instantly, of course lol. If you made it this far let me make a suggestion unrelated to Army of Darkness. Lucky Number Slevin. If you've never seen this movie it is so worth your time.

Every other reaction Channel out there....... take note, this is how you do a reaction Channel. These guys are my favorite thus far. One - they set up the movie an intro. Two, they watch it in its entirety without pausing because they cut it up anyway so there is no need to have to pause it, much less pause every 5 Seconds....... once it's complete they give their opinions and notes on the movie, this is how you do it people

I absolutely love how in this film the deadites actually remember Ash across space and time, when the first one in the pit grabbed him it didn’t want kill him right away. It just started straight up punching him, like they want to kick his ass and humiliate him first! Why, you’d ask? Because the deadites hate Ash so much and are so done with him interfering in their plans and sick of his shit!!

For those awere of the "alternate ending" Sam Raimi was planning a 4th EVIL DEAD movie where Ash would lead a robot army in a post apocalyptic world to fight the deadites. Unfortunately ARMY OF DARKNESS wasn't successful upon it's theatrical releases and the 4th movie was never made. In the TV show: ASH vs EVIL DEAD, season 3 ended in a cliffhanger that would lead to the Ash and robots fighting deadites storyline in season 4. But because of declining ratings, the show was cancelled after the third season.

The funniest thing to me, was Ash forgetting one of the most famous lines in science fiction movies, "Klattu Barada Nicto", (though they spelled it "Clatoo Verada Nico"). It's from the 1951 classic, "The Day The Earth Stood Still". It's the line told to actress Patricia Neal by the alien, Michael Rennie, to stop the robot from destroying Washington, D. C., if not the entire world. Klattu was the alien's name by the way.😂❤

Yes, that's Ted Raimi at the end, but he was also a Deadite, and the soldier who says, "You can count on my steel!" when they start to pledge to Ash. They also only had about 8 complete skeletons that they would rebuild after the explosions and such. Sam Raimi is a genius, and Bruce Campbell is awesome!

Great commentary! I was a huge Evil Dead fan when this came out and I got one of the original "Romance Novel" movie posters for my dorm room wall. Trekked a hundreds miles and dressed up in costume to see it on opening night in a little movie theater in Alexandria, Minnesota. You would not believe how fun and raucous the theater became with every quip or physical gag. I remember a friend of mine, after Ash kills the pit deadites, said "Ash has gained a couple of levels" like an RPG character. Great job on the vid. Although I love this ending, I also love Raimi's alternate ending where Ash says the words wrong (again) and sleeps an extra thousand years and is horrified to wake up in an apocalyptic hellscape.

The execution of Army Of Darkness was so much fun. From the characters (especially Ash’s) ridiculously cheesy lines to the straight up Three Stooges slapstick stuff. It knew exactly what it was, and exactly what it wanted to do. The progression of the Evil Dead franchise is also something that is very interesting to me. The franchise started with an experimental fun insane low budget Horror movie. Then taking a left turn it decides to make the sequel essentially a parody of the first one, much like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 that came out the year before. Then there's this one which is both a Horror and a Comedy film.

The words "Clatoo verata nicto" for the Necronomicon are a homage to the original phrase "Klaatu barada nikto" that originated in the iconic science fiction film _The Day the Earth Stood Still_ (1951), the phrase that is used to stop the alien robot Gort from destroying human civilization after humans shot the alien ambassador Klaatu.
