I once went to a Western themed party where three of the guests had painstakingly created Three Amigos costumes and learned the salute. It was epic.

The Germans being there is actually pretty interesting. The date they gave us at the beginning of the movie was 1916 which was during WW1. In WW1 Germany tried to convince Mexico to ally with them and start a war on the US border as a way to keep America busy so that America couldn’t focus as many resources on fighting Germany, basically a distraction. It didn’t work tho.

In fact, the British discovered an attempt on the part of Germany to bring Mexico into the war on their side when they intercepted the "Zimmerman telegram." The Brits told the Americans and it was one of the reasons America entered the war!

Supposed telegram! This is after the Rothschild family promised to bring the Americans in on the war to keep the English fighting. The British empire wanted to pull out of the war in 1916. That is where the German hatred for the little hat tribe came from.

Sorry, but not a true story. What really happened was that the viewers were so impressed by the film's picture quality and smooth framerate that several of them enthusiastically remarked afterward about how lifelike it was, saying it almost looked as if the train would roll right out of the picture and into the theater. Nobody panicked or ran away, they were just really impressed, and the story mutated in the retelling like a game of telephone.

"Galaxy Quest" is basically a re-imagining of "The Three Amigos" which is a re-imagining of "The Magnificent Seven" which is a re-imagining of "The Seven Samurai." It's an inception "inception." And that's not to detract from any of these amazing films. They are each wonderful in their own right. Thoughts on the beginning: A small village in Mexico, at this time, probably doesn't get that many films. Also at the time before TV news was shown in movie theaters on news reels. This may explain why she thought the Amigos were real.

    - So yes, GALAXY QUEST is a spiritual sequel to this movie... but even MORE than that, I swear that whoever wrote the "Caw caw Jason! CAW CAW!" dialogue during the Miners-NOT-Minors scene in GQ was inspired by the "Look up here! LOOKUPHERE!" scene from this movie. 🤣 - El Guapo & Jefe come dangerously close to stealing this movie. LOVE there scene together. They remind me of Dark Helmet & Col. Sanders from SPACEBALLS. Want MORE of JUST them! - Good job Chris! May I suggest making one more that has both goodnights on one tee. - "Can I have your watch when you are DEAD?" ... VERY meme-able, VERY quotable movie

I also use “Plethora” a lot after seeing this movie. Whenever my brother says he has a lot of something: “Would you say you have a plethora of….?” lol. This movie is a true classic.

I like how Alta realizes the scene looks like a scene from Seven Samurai without realizing this is a parody of The Magnificent Seven (a remake of Seven Samurai). Also, tell me Bug's Life isn't just The Three Amigos with insects. Good job Chris.

I've watched several of these videos for the first time today. The hardest decision I have to make after seeing them is whether I'm proud I got to see a lot of these movies as a kid when they came out. Or, if I wish I could see '80s and '90s films for the first time through a 20-something's eyes like these two.

I grew up singing all the songs from this movie. My dad was a big fan of comedies like this and ghostbusters. The golden era of straight comedy. (as in, everyone's playing it straight, although the situations are ridiculous) My dad played guitar and piano and we'd sing all the songs. Good times.

12:51 - Speaking of Chevy Chase specific jokes: the one in National Lampoon's European Vacation where he asks for a Coke from a stewardess. The stewardess asks "Would you like it in the can?" Chevy looks towards the back of the plane and says, "No. I'll have it here."
