Cruising on the Border

Cruising on the Border

We're Jackie & Michael.

In 2021 we decided to change our life!!
Having previously owned and lived on a boat in France for 3 years, we decided to buy 'Border Reiver' a 57ft narrowboat.
We are now continuing our adventures cruising the rivers and canals of Britain.
We'll share with you our travels, life and no doubt have a few laughs along the way!
So, hop onboard and follow our journey!

Defo looks like Tin tin. Brilliant shout hahaha. Really enjoyed the video but was saddened about what you endured. Have subscribed and will be looking through all your videos. Me and my wife are considering living on a canal boat once our last child leaves the nest. These videos are a great insight.

LOL, Jackie that green stuff is Duck weed, it is beneficial in water but spreads quickly. Plastic needs to go though, pitty you could not set an example by getting some tool to lift the plastic out to dispose of it. All good, you need to keep doing these.

You can do it! What’s the budget? Start by having a look at some boats and their layout. We had a smaller boat first 40ft to decide if we liked ❤️ we did and upgraded to Border Reiver. There are lots of useful FG groups. Watch some of our other videos and drop us some questions. Look forward to hearing how it all goes xx

You don't need to be on a narrow boat to encounter situations like that. Sadly, it's just a part of life that we all need to be cognisant of, particularly in less affluent areas. But as you know, for every 1/2 mile of dirty, glass strewn, yob infested, desolated urban canal, there's 200 miles of beautiful, lush green, safe and welcoming historic English waterway to enjoy :) You did right by quietly moved on. Good call...

Silly question, do all the canals in the uk lead to each other? For example, can you go from lets say somewhere in the south right up to Birmingham? Kind of like how roads work. My dog loved to walk along the canal and when a barge came by he would get over exited and im sure hes thinking about jumping in and go on the barge. Barge people are nice, they always wave and say hi,but i understand that they have to be careful, its not like you can find help right away. We cant have anything nice anymore because some scumbag wants what you have or just cause problems, my £400 mountain bike was taken from the train station bike rack,i had the best lock on it but they must have used bolt cutters or a cordless grinder. When i say i cried i mean i cried for hours walking 2 miles home. Just as i was thinking to buy my 1st moped too, obviously that aint happening, if they can steal a bike they for sure can take a moped. I pray that your journeys and adventures are not ruined by negative souls and god will guide your barge to a safe location.

Hi 👋 what a lovely comment thanks for leaving us your story. We too had bikes stolen, both times in Europe, one from outside a train station and the worst from the top of our car… we survived, sadly the bikes didn’t. Forever lost!!! 😡 The UK waterways network is over 2,000 miles long and yes is mostly all connected. From Bristol in the south west to London and Basingstoke in the south east then all the way into Wales and north to Lancaster, in the north east you can get your Goole and up to Ripon, north of York. Some describe Birminghams canal network as like Venice!! Hope that helps you gain an understanding. Lovely to hear from you and hope you enjoy watching our other videos. J&M xx
