    The fabric device is called a “boom” and was placed around the burned out boat to prevent leaking floating oil from getting into the canal. Looks as though the boat has been there for a long time judging from the water weeds growing inside the boom.

    Hi Guys The Ken Dodd joke was that his witnesses were Diddy Pay and Diddy Hell or at least, that's the "family friendly" version 😂 That lock was a bit fierce! They're not like that round here - I live (in a house unfortunately) near Tring Summit on the Grand Union - they're rather more gentle. Such a shame about those boats, especially the burnt out one. I agree with you, I hope nobody was hurt during it. Thank you so much for all the lovely vlogs you do and taking us all to some great looking places. All the Best.

    Another Great video you both are good to watch boat people help each other as pulling the loose boat in and taking care of strangers property. Sad to see sunken boats are you able to have them insured? I remember watching Ken Dodd when i was still in UK. September was very wet and windy here in Nevada owing to to the Hurricane on the west coast floods in our Desert. Snazzy looking luggage but who gets to drag two of them Michael ??? Look forward to your next video Ed 40 S of Vegas.

Yes we have insurance on the boat, for us and other boats we might come into contact with. They are difficult to damage though being all steel. Our weather is a little bad this week, wet and windy but its sunny as I am typing this to you. Ah ah our nice luggage, we both get to drag them. Until next week Ed.

    Nice video guys, but seriously, I have never known so much drama going through this section of locks, in my 9 years on board and frequent user ( many times alone ) of those locks ( Stenson as recently had an upgrade ) it has neither been challenging or eventful… it’s simply Narrow boating life and I think, for those watching we should be a little more instructional and a lot less dramatic where educating the uninitiated and inexperienced into our community. Particularly those considering the life. Shame you didn’t look into the history of the locks and cafe at Stenson … very interesting. Those suitcases btw… I’m just back from overseas, they’re perfect for travelling and for stowage on the bloat… see ya!

  • @cruisingontheborder

    @cruisingontheborder

    Good question Paul! Often you will find they will wait for another boat to come through. Solo boaters have a technique they use but it involves climbing ladders up and down and securing the boat before they operate the lock. It's tricky for them. Yes we did the Kennet & Avon last year and loved it, we have a number of videos on it and a playlist which shows all of them. Have a look and drop us a comment. Do you live on the K&A??

    Lovely video,I’m a new subscriber and found it really interesting,as for the narrow boat that was burnt out then you should see the boat that was mysteriously abandoned and then set on fire and is now just a half submerged burnt out shell that is moored in Leicester,unfortunately instead of leaving it where it was they moved it to the opposite bank on a bend so it’s more of a hazard,been there since early July.

    What annoyed us most, was that when you came across an abandoned/rotten/sunken boat and all had to have a licence and if its to be believed that CRT check up on all continuous cruisers to make sure they have moved, then why don't they remove them as they are an obvious danger to navigation? If you left your car as junk at the side of the road, you would get prosecuted for abandonment, so why not with boats?

  • @cruisingontheborder

    @cruisingontheborder

    Hi Frank, we think it comes down to resources and costs, the CRT are having government funding cut as we speak and its' such a large network, over 2,000 miles of canals. It must be so difficult to decide what to prioritise. Thanks for your comment, we appreciate you taking the time to message us.

    Hmm sadly a lot of people abandon them and they are left where they are until they become a danger to other boats or people then the CRT will have to remove them. Often the owners cannot be traced. Sad really....

    Another lovely vlog. Would it not be better to tie your middle rope when in a lock that is fast flowing, I have noticed a lot doing this. Sad about the burntvout boat.

    As for the Willow injury, my mother used them for disciplinary actions.....! I, also, immediately recognized the word, "TARDIS", from a favorite old show my son and I watched when they had plungers as part of their outfits.

    There's nothing like have a pair of 20lb. CO2 extinguishers on board. Not only do they starve the fire of oxygen it reduces the temperature of the steel to prevent a re-flash. Better than most as I'd hate to breath in the dry powder crap while fighting an onboard fire. I did a tour in the U.S. Coast Guard and had firefighting training from the U.S. Navy at Treasure Island. Am I an expert? NO! I just learn my lessons well and go on with life. That's was 47 years ago.

    Hi great to hear from you and totally agree. In the UK a boat had to go through a boat safety assessment and fire extinguishers are definitely on the list!! Sounds like you’ve had a few experiences and great training to 👍👍. 😀😀
