Thank you. It was great to see Swarkestone lock: a place I first new in the early 1960s. There used to be a white painted house by the lock at which jugs of tea could be purchased. One shilling (£0.05p) per jug!.

Wow what a great family video, thank you for sharing. It just shows how hard it is to learn to stear, and to operate the locks. Well done Clare and Scott for mastering the challenges, Two great teachers Michael and Jackie who make it look so natural. Cheers I don't think I would have made it over the lock after a beer....😢

Great little video guys, I'm new to thinking of getting a narrow boat, I've got a long time to think about it and also gain a lot of advice and tips, trying to keep up with as many continuous cruisers as I can find, I think it's great how everyone seems more friendly than a motorist driving through town and always willing to give each other a helping hand, take care guys, Nige, 👍👍

Sometimes, after turning left, say, you have to steer to the right to stop the turn continuing after you get pointed in your target direction. (Steer a bit the opposite way, to cancel out the previous turn.) Takes a bit of practice, for me anyway, when on hire boats!

We had a trip from sawley to alrewas and back at the end of july. Weston lock was terrible. The guy who lives on the lock landing told us you can't shut a paddle early or you can't open it and the gates can take 2 to open. Great fun when there's just 2 of you and no help. Your apprentices were doing well tho

Absolutely love these videos of the wonderful countryside and waterways. Picked up watching about episode 43, and have gone back to view starting about #29. I listen to the directions of Jackie, the geography teacher, and try to locate your route and find the locks on Google Map.

I know you are limited on the canals you can travel with a wide beam but, was curious just how restricted... can you travel on most of the canal system or are you limited to half or less... or.... ? Thanks! Wonderful family btw.
@cruisingontheborder

Hi Roger thanks so much for your comment. Probably a lot less than half of the canals are suitable for wide beams, it's the lock sizes that are the issue. The whole River Thames I think is ok and that is one beautiful cruise. Hope your'e enjoying our waterways adventures.
