Just a quickie, best to put cable grommets in the bulkheads when passing cables through, this prevents vibration wear or chaffing on the cables against the wooden drilled holes.

Hi both of you. Really interesting seeing the boat out of the water having all the work done, the Blacking looks like a lovely job (NOT) 🤣. The big machine used to lift the boat up and over the other boats is what we in the shipping container transport world call a straddle carrier, used in the docks to move the containers about and lift them on and off the trucks. The ones in the docks are quite a bit taller so they can stack containers 3 high.

Our pleasure! We are so pleased you enjoyed it. The blacking was challenging but we got there in the end. That is such interesting information about the crane, we think this one came from Holland and it was rebuilt on site at Debdale and modified. We hope you get chance to watch some of our other videos. Look forward to hearing from you again. Jac & Michael x

This is how they got tye idea for Thunderbird 2 , International Rescue 😅😅.... Actually lf they did it with Thunderbird 2 your boat would've been put in one of the pods , then when it was finished the pod would've been dropped in the after and your boat just slide down the ramp 😉 👍

Clearly an outdated (for previous work) straddle carrier from a container port….no reason to suspect I would not be up to the job if they keep it certified. It even still has the container lifting attachment, solely with the minor modification of adding boat straps. That is a very solid setup.

Another interesting Video Michael & Jackie. I’ve seen a narrowboat being lifted out of the Grand Union Canal down at Bletchley; but that was just a mobile crane & the boat was put straight on to some sleepers in the yard .. not seen anything quite like that moving monster lifting beastie .. must have been a few heart stopping moments when you saw Reiver Border swinging above the other boat! Your new wifi connection looks good too .. much better I am sure.

Just make sure that slings and ‘D shackles’ are ‘in date’ and all lifting procedures have been fully checked and signed off BEFORE ANY LIFTS TAKE PLACE. Guys, you deserve a medal… there were to many lift exchanges going on there and while it looked safe, from a construction supervisors perspective, having been involved in countless lifts, you were a lot braver than me moving your home like that? Just a tip, Spring wood Haven Marina, on the Coventry Canal winch out for blacking, far less hair raising … also, at Taylor’s Lock you are 200 meters from one of my compounds … electrification of the Midland Mainline, now taking place. At Taylor’s Lock recently and near the great glen aqueduct…. I reported the pound there recently (empty) and a wide beam adrift, roughly where you moored up for a G&T… take care🙏🏼

I get where you are coming from, but certs on shackles and d-rings will not be available unless they are nearly new (or from when they were new). Nothing prevents you from being your own from a hire firm, but that would be impractical. Personally I would rather ask when were the slings last out of the sleeves for inspection……they are a much higher risk….oh and get tha hydraulic topped up to eliminate the pump squeal.

The lifting process with spreaders bars remove much anxiety…but 3 lifts are an unnecessary extra complication..they need to break the jackhammer out and make space for the straddle carrier directly over the launching dock.

Hi Paul thanks for your comment. Every marina is slightly different in their charging depending upon their processes. Ours was around £350 per lift and we had a lift out and back in the water again. The blacking paint I think we mentioned in the video was around £200 for that large drum. As we mentioned it was a lot less expensive to do the blacking ourselves and more satisfying if a little frustrating at times. Hope you continue to watch and enjoy our adventures 😀👍
