    Copper is a British slang term for a policeman. I assume 'cop' is just a shortening of that term.

    “Even if you do terrible like me, as long as you have fun solving it that’s all that matters.” - Sums up my Wordle solve very eloquently! Wordle in 6: LUPIN - MASON - BARON - TAXON - WAGON - CANON (Definitely was not ready for that roller coaster! 🤣) Connections: (3 yellows & 1 blue) - YELLOW - GREEN - (3 blues & 1 purple) - half & half - BLUE - PURPLE Slight correction: ‘Hackneyed’ comes from an archaic verb hackney meaning ‘use (a horse) for ordinary riding’, which morphed into ‘make commonplace by overuse’. Early in the 17th century a four-wheeled carriage called a ‘hackney cab’, which was specifically for carrying paid passengers, was introduced into England. Over time, those who drive around looking for paid passengers (a modern example being taxi drivers) became known as “hacks”. A “hack writer” is only known as such by the quality of their work, not the profession itself. So you had the right etymology, just the wrong profession.

    Art, I often have to remind myself that the puzzles are for the general public. Most people.playing are laymen and while they want these to be challenging, they don't require expertise. I've come across the issue a few times where I'm too much of an expert at a specific subject and I try to overcomplicate it, like I think you did today with "building blocks". Most people couldn't tell you what a protein really is, for instance, but many may have heard that they are "buildling blocks".

    A tale of two "Freeze Tags". There are two completely different games both called "Freeze Tag". One is a variation of the basic children's game of tag, where the person who is "IT" can tag someone and they then have to stay frozen until someone else tags them to unfreeze them. The other game is a theater sports game where an improvised scene takes place and anyone who is taking part (potentially the ENTIRE audience), can yell "freeze" at any time. The performers then have to freeze, until the caller tags one of them, releasing them from the scene. The caller then takes the tagged performers exact physical position, and starts a completely new scene that can involve different characters, relationships, objects, situations, and/or locations. It is a staple of theater sports and it is extremely fun to watch or to play. I took an improv-based acting class at university and it was hilarious, fun, and challenging. It really helps you to improv(e) in how well you can think on your feet. Here's a fun fact about me. I actually taught some theater sports classes for little kids (7 - 13). It was really fun to watch kids learn to creatively entertain the rest of the class. One of the funnest things about theater sports is that you can surprise an audience, but you can also surprise yourself.

I could have gotten one more point if I had spent more time trying to figure out the purple category, before testing my incorrect Science category. I’ve got a bone to pick with this one. Calling those “the” Biological Building Blocks is arbitrary. Perhaps that’s what Biology textbooks say, but general knowledge is not about memorizing lists in biology textbooks. Aren’t “carbon chains”, “phospholipid bilayers” (the essential structure in membranes), and “DNA” all just as much “Biological Building Blocks” as the items in that list?

    But the category was NOT called "The" Biological Building Blocks. Just "Biological Building Blocks." (You added the "the.") So I don't agree that they were implying these four are ALL of the biological building blocks. These are just some of them. You're right that the ones you mentioned could also fit into that category. But obviously, they could not include all of them since there are only four items in each category.

  • @UTU49
    @UTU498 сағат бұрын

    @@doraa.7873 Perhaps it's a bigger issue that "atom" and "molecule" are essential Chemistry concepts that are not exclusive to Biology. It's a little bit sour grapes on my part, but there's a half-bakedness to this category that I don't like. Basically just that I think people are only likely to give that particular category title if they are immersed in formally studying Biology, or they have recently read those 4 things together in a Biology textbook, neither of which are required to be a generally knowledgeable person.

    The word "mobile" also refers to a thing that hangs little knickknacks over a baby's crib to give it something to look up at. I would guess that you have a different word for something similar in the UK. Some American folk music uses ordinary physical objects like saws and jugs to make music. "Phone tag" is when you keep leaving messages for each other and can't connect. It may be a thing of the past, because nowadays, we would just send each other a text. See my lengthy explanation of games called "freeze tag", if interested. Better luck tomorrow!
