You were great in Wordle and did OK in Strands. You also did not get a GOOSE EGG or just one category in Connections, Art. I can relate to you getting close to achieving all four categories. I surprisingly did very well today! 😊

DUMBO is a relatively new name for a neighborhood in Brooklyn, meaning Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. For some reason, they're trying to revitalize or rebrand some neighborhoods in New York City. For example, I grew up in the Ravenswood Projects of Long Island City/Astoria. They're now taking a segment of the neighborhood in Long Island City and revitalizing the old name of Dutch Kills. I don't know why. There is a CHINATOWN in NYC, as well as in San Francisco, but the movie CHINATOWN is set in Los Angeles. The fictionalized story deals with the real-life manipulation of the water supply in the city, as Who Framed Roger Rabbit? deals with the real-life destruction of the Los Angeles trolleys in favor of the freeways. I think only the last scene was set in Chinatown.

Donut holes are a thing you can buy. They're small balls made of the same dough as the regular donut. The gimmick was they were supposedly the "hole" punched out of the disk to make the donut shape. But they're popular because they're a smaller portion than the regular donut.

I caught on after getting my first 2 categories that the categories were probably all word play on the titles. It would just be way too mean to expect common knowledge of the details of the content or production of the movies (outside of something really mainstream like "Disney Cartoons"). They've had movies connected by director or actor before, but only as the lone pop culture category which you could get by POE after finding completely unrelated connections with the other words.

I REAALY liked today's connections after an initial panic when I saw all the movie titles. WE didn't need to know anything about the actual films and it ended up being a normal game when you focused on the actual words...

I liked the word play. But I absolutely resent all that time I spent thinking about directors, actors, plots, themes, nominations, eras, years, genres, etc… That was a colossal waste of time.

I don't think we've ever had one like this that was almost all word-play. I don't think you needed any knowledge of the actual movies whatsoever. This is a bit of a dirty trick to play on those of us who know most of those movies pretty well.

A “Donut Hole,” popularly known as a “Munchkin” at Dunkin Donuts, is basically just a small ball-shaped donut (or “doughnut” if you’re fancy like the NYT).

Chinatown wasn't set in New York City, it's the most famous LA Noire movie ever. Dumbo is a movie about an elephant but DUMBO is a neighbourhood in New York that is Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overhang Also, if you guessed 3 options and they were all one away, those 3 have to be in a category and the other 3 have to be in the other, thus, you knew ahead of time that Kill Bill and Manhattan had to belong to two different categories.

Sorry art, but I actually did really well today. Wordle in 4 MANGO TILES PETER DETER Connections: Perfect score! All categories, no mistakes, under five minutes, and in descending difficulty order (from Purple to Yellow). First time I've gotten a perfect score, in this game, in a while! Strands: Also perfect score. Spangram first, no mistakes, no hints, and under 3 minutes. Cider donuts are big where I'm from (Connecticut), so that definitely helped. I guess today was just a good day for me.

3 for me too ORATE--MITER--DETER. I was in the exact same position as you on Connections. I got the PURPLE and then the BLUE right away. From there I struggled trying to come up with the 4th NY movie. I finally picked Dumbo after making 3 errors and only having 2 choices remaining, ET and Dumbo. I then saw the rhyming words and was happy to get a PHEWW! I did Strands in about a minute with no hints. I have never seen Donuts spelled as DOUGHNUTS.

I did wordle in 5. 😔 strands, I was looking for 12's, eggs, clock, disciples, and doughnuts. Once I lit up the spangram it was off to the races. I've never heard of a cider donut though Connections was so much fun! I thought I was sunk when I saw all the movie titles. Like Art, I got purple 1st. The only thing I knew about My ledt foot is that it won an award. So.I tried that next. Nope. Then I saw the rhymes, then the measurements and NY places I said without confidence because I couldn't figure out how Dumbo fit. I was delighted to solve it.
