I'm fine with you making comments as you solve the puzzles. This is your channel, and you should be reasonably free to express yourself. Yes, being a woman could be an advantage on today's Strands. It was for me. And yes, I attended two of those things three years ago: two of my nieces. To my knowledge, there isn't a classic story called "Underdog". It's just an expression to mean someone less likely to win, or someone looked down upon. It's often applied in sports or other competitive situations when a "dark horse" comes from behind and wins or nearly wins: So-and-So was the underdog in this contest, but he put up a good fight and nearly won. Or, So-and-So was the underdog and wasn't expected to land the lead in the school play, but she did. However, in the mid-1960s they took that word Underdog and made it into a TV cartoon series starring a somewhat clumsy dog superhero.

I think it's fine when you say whether you found something easy or hard. But everyone's knowledge level is different and sometimes the ones you think are easy are really tricky for other people, and sometimes ones you think are really hard are immediately obvious to others. So it's probably the "you should all have found this super easy/difficult" comments that bother people.

You almost had the "come from behind" category. You even identified that Cinderella, Rags-To-Riches, and David-And-Goliath were types of Underdog stories, but then you stuck Rumplestiltskin in without any knowledge of the story, and you kept in rather than just trying Underdog with your three known items.

Personally I've always gone out of my way to avoid saying "This one should be easy for everyone" or similar things just because I know that not everyone finds the same things difficult or easy. With that being said, I think it should be obvious to anyone watching you that it's just your opinion. Sometimes you do very well on ones that I totally fail. Other days, you struggle on ones I get immediately. I wouldn't let the comments bother you too much. If anything it mean people find it interesting how different we can be at solving these games.

Art, it's totally OK for you to mention that you think something is easy or difficult. I do find it slightly off-putting when you imply that it should be easy (or difficult) for everyone. In my experience with these games and the communities surrounding them, MOST people have good days and bad days and blind spots and strong spots. In other words, there is no everyone. But when you have a rough day, I'm routing for you. And it helps us viewers when y'all with these channels don't win every time because then we can all share that experience. I've bombed connections (and wordle and strands) when others had great days and I've breezed through the puzzles when you were struggling. We're all different and that's great. I just find it a little discouraging on one of my struggle days when I come watch you solve and you say, "This one was so easy, right guys? No one should have any problems with this one today." Well, I did. When you say, "I had a good day with this one today." Or "This one was easy for me.", I'm cheering you on. But saying it the first way, feels like shaming those of us who didn't get it. ALSO, and this is important! - It's not that serious. These are games and we're all on the internet, sometimes referred to as the cesspool of humanity, and there are far worse things you could do or say. It bothers me to feel called out for bombing on a day you rocked it, but I don't hold onto it, and I don't resent you, I let it go and move on because I know your intentions were in the right place and there are much more important things for me to worry about and pay attention to. So if you want to take these comments to heart, there are supportive people on here saying, "maybe just change up the wording a bit." and if you'd rather let it go and move on, that's totally fine too. It's your channel and you shouldn't have to walk on eggshells if that's what it feels like. The most important thing is you "doing you" as they say in slang.

You can think something's easy that was hard for me and something that is nearly impossible for you (e.g. things to do with kids/Disney) might have me thinking easy. Of course, not everyone will find your easies easy and if people get hurt about that, they shouldn't be watching youtube commentary on stuff :P

I barely survived connections today and had no clue the Purple cat. I'm pretty sure the beginning with rear end for bumper to bumper is BUM rather than bumper though :) Hindsight is 50/50. The stories category isn't listing specific stories so much as it's doing archetypes. Cinderella stories are any story where someone who 'shouldn't' get the guy does. Underdog stories are any story where someone who shouldn't win, does. One could argue that David and Goliath can fit under Underdog, but I think it is separated both to make it more difficult and because David and Goliath specifically has a good vs evil vibe while underdogs aren't necessary defeating a bad guy just someone who is favored to win (think casinos, if you win against the house, you're the underdog but the house isn't necessary bad). Rags to Riches - again, Cinderella sorta fits in this but not all R2R is Cinderella. R2R can be working your way to the riches (i.e. working hard to get into NFL, starting at bottom tier til you own or are nearly top dog in a company, etc).

Wordle in 4 VIOLA STAIR AMITY PAINT Connections: So, I actually did something different today, and decided to time myself with the stopwatch feature on my phone. To see if I really am getting these in under 5 minutes. Got a 9/10. Literally got everything in under 5 minutes, except for naming the purple category. I probably could have figured it out eventually if I ignored the time, but I went for the time bonus instead. No mistakes and in order as well. Strands: Also timed myself on this one and got a perfect score (10/10). Solved the whole thing in about a minute and a half. I Thought of "I do" and Weddings immediately when I saw the clue. Then I saw "Vows" and that solidified my thoughts. Not that bad a day for me.

I usually struggle with connections but thought today was pretty easy. The blue category I think had to to with sports and not actual stories. The underdog was obvious, in March madness you'll hear teams seeded 11th or lower referred to as the "Cinderella story" if they keep winning. I've also heard of the phrase david and Goliath in sports when a team wins a game they were major underdogs in.

Honestly, it's starting to get off-putting when you say "I'm not going to give my opinion any more because I get criticism in the comments". I think most of us watch this to see your reaction and get your take, even if we feel differently. I've not noticed those criticisms you talk about and most regulars here are much more constructive. If you think something was easy or hard, say so, and we can politely agree or disagree. If some idiots get really worked up and attack you personally, then they are not worth your consideration.

Yeah, I’d say sharing your thought process is absolutely fine, that’s why I enjoy watching these! But I’d be cautious especially saying something was “easy”. Particularly with Strands and Connections, a lot of it is so culturally-based. Something may seem easy to you because you were brought up, say, in the culture of going to amusement parks. But someone without that cultural context may really struggle. I guess there’s nothing wrong with saying it was easy for you, and again explaining your thought process, but saying it should be easy for everyone is a bit unfair.

It's perfectly reasonable for him to throw out such an opinion, and then it's perfectly reasonable for us to respectfully comment when we disagree. I don't know why it's unfair to say "this is easy for everyone" - it might be mistaken, or only true for fellow Americans, or people who are Art's age, but I can't see how it's unfair.

@milesbaillie6348, No, they have a point. And while it's important for internet consumers to take responsibility for their own reactions to things, it's also important for "influencers" to be congiscient, conscientious, and sensitive to the environment and "influence" they're creating. And while no one is actually required to do any of that, it's significantly more moral and societally beneficial if we do. I'm sure Art can find a way to be himself and foster the community that he wants (which might just include people who are completely accepting with his generalized difficulty judgments which is a perfectly valid response to this issue.) Either way, there's also no harm in some calm and logical discussion on it and consideration of different approaches and potential responses.
