    Four people would never fit comfortably in it, you say at 6:10, but that's nonsense. I've already slept in it with four people, all well-built water polo players, taller than 1.85m. Of course, it doesn't work if you use XL sleeping mats, because then you can only fit three. But if you lay these out on the floor and then lie on them crosswise, nobody lies in the cracks between the mats. It also doesn't work if everyone lies in the same orientation. You have to lie in such a way that one person's head is always next to the other person's feet. Then it works wonderfully.

    I also noticed the small problems with the misplaced spring blade on the gas burner, as well as the burrs. For theses sharp edges, all you need is a small file to deburr them. Quick and easy. I don't think this gas stove has been produced since the beginning. Where does current production come from? Keeping costs down may explain the poor finish. Thanks for this "honest video" 😉

    Yeah sure you can fix it, but you’re buying a finished product so you shouldn’t have to. They now have a newer model that looks very similar - perhaps they’ve addressed that issue.

    @@OutdoorPrep I also hope they ave done it. A question: when you buy an item in this day and age, how many times do you have to modify it, improve it or finish it (as in this case) before you can actually use it? Most of the time, you're buying something that's almost unusable, but for which you've paid the price, and whose defects aren't covered by any kind of warranty. That must be progress 🙂

    They don't sell this reactor extreme anymore. They changed the design to include an opening at the footbox. It becomes a knot when closed, and ends up something your feet get to fight with all night.. and feel restricted. You'll also end up rolling over the new buttons on the hood. In general, the new design is more complicated, more expensive, and not as good. Not sure what they were thinking.

    Its a big shame that hilleberg does not have mesh in their outer doors. During the nordic summer months, the absolutely last ting I want to do is to open open the outer tent before going to bed as you will literally have one million mosquitos, vasps and other bugs flying between the inner and the other tent the next morning. But if you close it, you are almost guaranteed condensation, and then it also blocks that beautiful view you have walked so long for. I feel the Hillebergs are SO close to being perfect, and with just some very simple design changes from Hilleberg, it could actually become perfect. I have three wishes for upgrades for both the Soulo/Allak/Unna/Staika. 1. Upgrade: Add a ventilation port with optional mesh (which could be closed of pn both the outer, and the inner tent during winter or bad weather) at one of the short sides of the tent. This will provide airflow (It’s impossible to get proper airflow with only one vent-hole) through the tent and really prevent condensationt. 2. Upgrade: Let us have the option for mesh in the outer door, so that the tent also is usable during the warmer days of the year. 3. Upgrade: Alot (way too many) Hilleberg users experience that the ziplocks are leaking during heavy rain and wind. I have not experienced this with any other tent brand, and is something Hilleberg really should fix.

  • @OutdoorPrep
    @OutdoorPrep2 ай бұрын

    A small change can have large implications. They test and prototype a lot at Hilleberg but are conservative with making drastic changes and that’s for good reason IMHO. As for the mesh door - they do have it actually, just not on all the tents. Check out my Keron review. It works great in the summer 👌🏼

    Hi Rob, I hope you're doing well. Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. I appreciate it; nicely done. Currently, I have an Enan for solo camping and a Nammatj 3 GT. However, since I am not using the Nammatj 3 GT anymore for deep winter or expeditions, I am looking into lighter options. I think the Helags ticks all the boxes, but I would like to see a GT version, to be honest. There is an 800g difference between both the Kaitum and Helags models. Therefore, I guess it will depend on the intended use which one is best. I am thinking of using the tent with my family during spring-autumn in the UK. How does the Helags perform in late autumn and windy environments? Since I use the Enan even in snow-free conditions in winter (I did minor modifications with a small weight penalty), I would be inclined to save the weight and get the Helags. However, going solo and with family are different scenarios. Thank you for your insights. Regards, Guido

  • @OutdoorPrep
    @OutdoorPrep2 ай бұрын

    Hi Guido Great question. Yes the Helags GT would be great but that might still take some time. They’ve just released new tents so I’d say it can take 2-3 years. Disclaimer: I can be wrong and Hilleberg can surprise us all :) Tunnel tents are great in winds that don’t change direction. Ideally when there’s a bit of snow to anchor the corners. Kaitum will be slightly better as it has a guyline on the upper vent for extra anchoring and you can have the fabric a bit lower. I’ve used some rocks to build a 10cm “wall” to prevent wind comping up from below - that helps a bit too. In my Helags I also sometimes use 10mm pole, one I borrow from Keron3, second one from Soulo. 10mm poles do make a difference if you have extra or are willing to invest. This could make the Helags more versatile as you can add the poles and extra guylines when needed. Extra guylines and appropriate pegs are key on muddy ground. I’m the end, both tents are strong and perform well. I’m happy I’ve switched from Kaitum to Helags. Hope this helps Cheers

I like how you can use one vestibule for gear and roll the other end away. Obviously in the anjan if you roll the front away you are left with kit out the front. My only concerns are 1) finding a pitch for a 4.2 long tent. 2) the difference in weight but more importantly pack size. If I remove the poles, how much difference in pack size was there between the anjan-3 and helags 3? Thanks

  • @OutdoorPrep
    @OutdoorPrep2 ай бұрын

    Have you found the Anjan video? You can roll away the other side too for ventilation. If you have loads of gear yeah - Helags offfers double the space. Difference in pack size is not really noticeable, both are quite small sizes and the thin fabric makes a lot of difference too. As for space - don’t know where you camp but you’ll need the same amount of flat space in both tents. Vestibules don’t need to be on a flat. Both tents are great and difference is minimal so hard to choose :) good luck

Good indoor space but vestibule becomes unusable for cooking if the wind presses on it. Advantage of the Staika is having a vestibule on opposite sides. If you need the strength of Jannu - sure, go for it. But other than that I prefer Allak.

    I own these and the honest answer is. I went back to carrying my Trangia 27 because it was better in almost every way. It is just bigger and heavier. That is its only drawback. I am strong enough not to have to be a gram counter though. If you do have to gram count your pack the mini would be a good choice. However you could also just get stronger and carry a better product. Forget the triangle. There is a reason they stopped making them. They suck for anything more than a day hike in very low wind conditions. Just some tips from an old Trangia fan.

  • @OutdoorPrep
    @OutdoorPrep3 ай бұрын

    Thanks for you input. 25/27 are of course more resilient products but it’s not always about being not strong enough. There’s a reason there are different solutions for different situations. Triangle is being produced again and the reason it stopped was because of copyright issues. Cheers

    @@OutdoorPrep Hay, I do not think they are bad. I just like the larger sets for through hikes. The triangle still gets used. but only on day hikes. but I do have to use an additional windshield with it. I do live in a particularly windy part of the UK though and we can get 4 seasons of weather in 1 day even in summer here. I know the Triangle is popular with the kids I see out and about. But I do see a lot of them using a windshield as well. I did not know they had started making them again. But I have not looked for a new stove for a few years now. Trangia are just that good I don't need anything else and I doubt anyone will make anything better for quite a long time to come. But like everyone else. I have bought the Vern 1 new as cheaper and is really good and a bit more room than a 1 man tent as its 1.5 and i'm well happy with it
