Are these Snow Pegs form Helsport fake? They are denying it!

Hope you've enjoyed this video. Consider supporting the channel and buying me a coffee: buymeacoff.ee/roboutdoorprep
As I needed to buy sand / snow pegs, I came across the pegs form Helsport.
They were showed in a few videos of the brand and seemed to be the only ones offering extra length - 51cm, instead of the more traditional 30cm
This is quite a bit heavier but I decided to give it a try.
What came in was a surprise, and the strangest thing is that the brand denies producing them...
The matter is currently being investigated by the store that sold them.
UPDATE: the store was satisfied with the information provided in this video, and immediately refunded the purchase.
UPDATE 2:
An update came in from Helsport:
[...]
After some weeks now, I have received more information about the snow pegs. As I have told you before, I couldn't find information about new snow pegs from Helsport.
This was a miscommunication between our Product Development, our Marketing Team, and is in Customer Service. We rely on the information that we receive from Product Development.
Product development has changed the snow pegs and you have the correct new Helsport snow pegs. The updates regarding the snow pegs were not communicated to us or marketing, unfortunately. Therefore it was impossible for me to find information.
On this basis, I gave you the information I had, but it was not correct.

It’s not a problem, just send em back, not as advertised . The cardboard label on the packet does it match and look as it should ? You could notify trading standards or equivalent (don’t know where you are based) Show the store the response from the manufacturer of the genuine pegs. I have never come unstuck with fake camping stuff, it’s a shame. They were not cheap. On a lighter note, wow great big snow pegs makes me cold thinking about it !!!!! Keep em coming

That’s just the thing - I can’t return them just yet. The store was asking for “more evidence” before allowing me to send them back… hence this video. The pegs were also a bit heavier than what they should be. Multiply those grams by 22 and it’s unnecessary weight… cheers!

I have never seen yellow Helsport snow pegs for sale in Norwegian stores, they are always unpainted/untreated. Many people paint Helsport pegs in a bright colors themselves, to make them easier to see in the snow. My (30 cm) Helsport snowpegs also have the hole in the middle you are referring to. My guess is the pegs are fake, trying to make them look like Hilleberg snowpegs and selling them under the Helsport name.

Thanks for your confirmation. Yeah it’s strange. They did come from a big, reputable store from Finland.

You can now find the updated photo of yellow pegs on the Helsport website… I guess it should be no surprise as I’ve recently discovered their tents are made in Bangladesh 😳

Rob, you should not need snow pegs that long, unless the snow is incredibly slushy. Have you packed the snow hard enough and given it enough time to freeze solid before tensioning your guy lines? If you cannot get enough purchase from your existing stakes consider getting stakes with a wider surface area, such as Swiss Piranha. Another option is that you can actually use your skis in a kind of lateral t-anchor to get maximum purchase. Hilleberg has a video demonstrating this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWmGk8VuYqnTkbw.html .... if you are dead set on longer stakes consider making your own from bamboo. I know a polar explorer who does exactly that. Hope that helps. You can also deadman a waterproof stuff sack full of snow, or even a log if you can find one. BTW I have had real trouble getting my hands on Helsport Footbags in XL. Do you know where I can get them? Or at least an adequate substitute? Any help appreciated.

Hi Thomas, Thanks for all your helpful tips. I've been talking to Hilleberg and they think 30cm would be enough indeed, also to let the snow freeze indeed. I'm returning those anyway, so I'll stick to the 30cm, also for the sake of weight. I was planning on using the t-anchor for the guy lines, and wanted the longer stakes mostly for securing the tent itself. As for the Footbags - I've been after them and talked to the same guy from Helsport. They have them in Sweden, but again, he can't help me as I'm not in Sweden/Norway and he can't make an exception. Interestingly enough, Lundhags, which is owned by the same parent company, was willing to take an order from me... I have not been able to find them. They are expected to come in stock during February though. Will let you know if I find any.

From a professional and personal standpoint... seeking additional 'length' (like those yellow stakes) is not much (if any) benefit with the issues involving added weight, added dimension, weaker overall, and diminishing returns on anchoring capacity.

I was thinking they would help with the attachments close to the tent. As I would put them straight into the ground and not bury as an anchor. What pegs would you recommend? Thanks!

Nordisk makes a 31cm snow peg for a reasonable price. Same length as the ones from hilleberg. The one you showed are quite long in my opinion.

Just a question: in which country is the store ? It is obvious that they are selling counterfeit products, and they aware of that. And it is likely that you won't see your money back.

They’re in Finland. It’s a big store so they should take it back. They’re just being a bit slow about it. Don’t think they did it knowingly. They just order from supplier 🤷🏻‍♂️

These Pegs are Fake. Mine real Helsport have a golden Finishing (Anodized) and have quite the same Dimension like my older ones from Hempton Works (UK)

Yeah Helsport have later confirmed that they are “real”. They are just from AliExpress and resold by Helsport unfortunately… but this is what Helsport sells now alongside their tents that are made in Bangladesh… :/
