Expedition Down Boots
These down filled, weather resistant booties are designed for base camp and bivi use, on high altitude or polar expeditions. They are filled with 800FP, RDS certified goose down, with a weather resistant Pertex® Quantum Pro outer fabric and double lined boot construction.
The modular system features a detachable outer footbed with hook and loop fastening for use around camp, which can then be removed for sleeping to avoid carrying dirt or snow into your sleeping bag or tent. A 12mm closed cell foam midsole insulates the foot from the ground and won’t compress with use, and a one handed shockcord closure pulls the boots securely shut keeping snow and spindrift out.
These are the ultimate essential for basecamp, to warm up cold feet after a long day on the mountain.
Pertex® Quantum Pro Fabric
Pertex® Quantum Pro uses an ultra-thin water-resistant coating to provide increased protection in rough conditions. By combining a tightly woven face fabric with a microporous coating, Pertex® Quantum Pro delivers weather resistance whilst remaining lightweight, soft, and breathable. It’s ideal for use in cold or damp environments.
EXPEDITION DOWN SLIPPER
These lightweight, down filled booties are designed for bivi or in-tent use, on high altitude or cold climate expeditions. Filled with 800FP, RDS certified goose down, they have a robust Pertex® Quantum fabric outer and liner and provide much needed respite for cold feet after a long day in harsh conditions.
They have an elasticated ankle for a secure fit and a one handed shockcord closure to seal the warmth in. They are low bulk and pack down into a small stuff sack, weighing in at just 240g per pair. An essential comfort for expeditions in the harsh environments.
Pertex® Quantum Fabric
Pertex® Quantum uses a tightly woven structure to provide a light and soft fabric that allows insulation to fully loft. With down proof construction, a DWR finish and soft feel, it's a lightweight and packable windproof fabric offering excellent weather protection.

Interesting test, very good point on the toes, As for sizes Rab down slippers in x/l I can’t get my foot in as the opening elastic is to tight but the Rab cirrus slippers (synthetic )have a great bit of elastic so I can get them on, I am a 12 Wish more thought had been put into the down slippers . Thanks for sharing

Ah yes I can see how that would be a problem. Maybe those North Face ones? I use them at home too 🤓

Hi Rob. Good video thanks. The issue I have found with all these down booties is always the lack of down in the toe box. Synthetic of course doesn’t have this problem but I find they are not insulating enough in really cold temps. The best And most packable I have used are Ex Ped they have 700+ fill but again the down can thin out at the toe end. If i find my toes getting cold I usually put some hand warmers into them and that solves the problem!

Thanks Gary. Yes I’m planning on bringing a bunch of hand warmers with me too. I don’t know why they don’t put more down in the toe box. Have you noticed a cold spot there?

Yes definitely its best to size up on these if you can so the end of your feet aren’t compressing the down against the outer shell. Exped used to sell a lightweight waterproof outer boot also which you could put fully over the down sock and use outside. Good luck with your search for something that works well for you!

@@mastercarpenterltd hi mark. I actually own both so hopefully can help. The rab are definitely warmer at 800 fp goose down. From memory the exped are 700p duck down. Both are very similar weight. The exped in my opinion are a better design in terms of the fit with the ankle elastic and top collar elastic. The rab just have a top draw cord. There is also a good difference in price with the exped being considerably cheaper. The key to both is fit. Too tight and your foot (toe’s especially) will compress the down. I’d err on the side of more room in them than less. Unless you are using in very cold temps, the exped are a great option and value for money I’d lean toward them. Hopefully this helps. Gary

Try the montbells, they are overstuffed to hell, mittens are the same, they are so overstuffed you can barely compress the down.

Simply put sock inside the boot…doubles up warmth and fills up toe problem…exped do down socks/booties, 1/2 price of tabs versions, but rab boot is for polar extremities…goes well with sallpettes…booties I’m gonna use’m for outside winter cycling boots…with an outer keep them dry

As a non mountaineer but winter camper ounces don't matter as much as durability and effectiveness. I use thick wool liners in my boots and just bring an extra pair to wear inside the sleeping bag while the used ones are inside (the sleeping bad also) to dry out. With wool you'll never have the problem with down shifting and cold spots. A little heavier but so much more durable. Equally warm

That absolutely works inside of a sleeping bag. It’s indeed a bit heavier but as you mentioned, insulates regardless of conditions 🙏

Hi Rob! You said in a comment that you dont like Hilleberg Rogen. What is your reservations abouth that tent in particular? :) Thanks for a great channel by the way.

The Rogen is great on paper. I've bought and returned two, and inspected a 3rd one in a store. The ones I've looked at had a few issues. What it came down to is that the inner tent was too tight, because of that, floating in air a bit, and the width did not exceed 110cm, and it should have been 130cm->120cm. This also had a negative effect on the length of the tent. If you know what to look for, you also can see it on many other photos of people that have not even noticed perhaps. So in short: inspect and measure properly when you get the tent, if that's the one you really want to get. Hope this helps.

I know the video is old, but i recently started buying some montbell gear, and got their expedition mittens, and they are overstuffed to hell, so overstuffed you can barely compress them, good price on their gear too. For the booties, sizing is on the small size, the largest one is L and max its a 10us shoe size. They sell over booties shells to, called Tent Shoe Covers. Goosefeetgear is another brand that sell both thing, booties and over booties, they do custom filling so you can overstuff them, but have 0 experience in any gear of this brand.

I have the same problem. I cannot find down booties that would fit my size 48 uk 12.5 us 13.5 feet. A Dutch company named Lowland makes a pair but they are quite heavy. I opted for the Montane Prism Booties. They haven't arrived yet. But where are you going? The north Pole?
