    Tested in -15C Canadian Winter Fit:- Many of the reviews I have read about Fjallraven jackets say to size down. I am glad that I sized down from Small to Extra Small (for reference I’m 5’6”, weight 140 lbs). I was initially afraid sizing down to XS size would not let me layer sweaters, however the XS let’s me layer up to three layers under the jacket no problem. If you have an average weight to height ratio I strongly recommend you size down for Fjallraven jackets. If you have above average weight, bust, or belly I would recommend you choose your normal size in Fjallraven jackets. Fjallraven jackets appear to be made for a Scandinavian lanky build with longer torso and generally speaking your normal size is just going to look way too big if you do not fit this local body build. Style:- I would say this is a “rustic style” or “Nordic timelessly simple but defined quality style”, my wife said it’s a “nice dad style” on me. My impression is Fjallraven is not a “modern style” or “city commuter refined style” like Canada Goose incase that is what you are looking for. Warmth:- Tested on a 15 min walk in mid-January Canadian winter sunny day at -15C (5F) with no wind outside (note - I also wore thermal top + bottom long base layer underwear + thick material long sleave mid layer top + denim pants + thick gloves, thick socks and fur lined insulated winter hat). - It kept me warm and comfortable during my 15 min walk. I have no doubt the Skogso jacket will be warm and comfortable with just a shirt up to -5C (23F) anything below that or during cold windy days you will have to layer up appropriately. Jacket sleeve:- As mentioned by other reviewers yes the sleeve is long. However I sized down and the sleeve isn’t much of an issue. The slightly longer sleeve does help when you stretch your arm and the material isn’t riding up. There is a Velcro to tighten it at your wrist. Zipper:- As mentioned by other reviewers the zipper is on the other side (European?) and it also requires me to keep it perfectly straight with the bottom zipper tab when zipping up. It is a bit weird but I don’t think it’s a big issue and something I will get used to. The jacket comes with a twin bottom zipper which I find useful to undo when I am seated in the car. There are plenty of pockets on this jacket…the outer pockets all have zippers. Hood:- lightly insulated hood is a great feature that kept me warm in the very coldest temperature. Bottomline: if you are looking for a winter jacket with warmth as your primary objective there are plenty of other brands like North Face that offer better warmth for a much better price than Fjallraven. If you are looking for a “modern style” or “city commuter refined style” AND you are willing to pay double the price material quality and name I would recommend Canada Goose. If you are looking for a “rustic style” or “Nordic timelessly simple but defined quality style” AND you are willing to pay more for the quality I would recommend Fjallraven. I was looking for a different style than Canada Goose and I was willing to pay more for the style and quality of material - I went with the Fjallraven Skogso Padded Jacket and I would recommend this jacket for sub-zero Canadian winter weather with layering when appropriate.

    @@justindloski9129 For other brands I would agree with you... however for Fjallraven sizing down from Small to X-Small the sleeves length was actually still longer than normal long sleeve clothing. This was good because when I stretch up to scrape the ice off of my car the sleeve does not expose your wrist and every part of my arm is still covered. In terms of it being narrow... yes I agree it is narrow through the arm when you size down but in my case it is still lets me have a base layer with sweater and it looks slim and stylish on me. I would say if your body type is on the larger side for your height to weight ratio (bust, belly, arms) then go for your regular size, but if you have an average weight to height ratio with average body type (bust, belly, arms) then definitely size down with Fjallraven. Fjallraven clothing are made for long lanky body types and my regular size just doesn't look stylish on me when I'm dishing out this much money for a jacket.

    Thank you! The noise in the hood was good to point out! When I watched Trekkit’s video, at 6’3” it looked a bit longer but might be the camera angle or a difference in torso length. I’m an inch shorter than you, only 190.5cm and ~100kg - skogso looks like a slim fit and I’d like to wear it with some room for layers, thoughts on XL or XXL since I can’t get to a shop and I’d prefer not to order both if I can avoid it. Keep up the detailed and thoughtful reviews 👍

  • @OutdoorPrep

    @OutdoorPrep

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hmmmmmmm It’s a “good winter length”, but not like a parka. I think with 5,5cm being between us, XXL might be too big. You can always reach out to Fjallraven directly, they can give you exact length and then you can compare. Sometimes it’s on the product page but often not. I can comfortably wear a thick sweater underneath the XL. It’s a bit more “slim fit” on the shoulders and chest, and gets a bit more roomy around the abdomen. Hope this helps 👍🏽

  • @M1_K3Y

    @M1_K3Y

    Thanks again! I’ll give that a try, As much as I like the brand, their online customer service has not been the quickest or most helpful. The website technical info does list 81cm length but doesn’t specify if that’s for a medium or all sizes, and their size chart doesn’t have length. This is still a top contender but since I’m in the snow a fair bit I’m looking for something with good length and range of motion and started looking at a layering piece like the Keb padded wool or loft hoodie or something more of an insulated ski jacket. Skogso looks great for casual but might not have the active component I need, thanks again!

    @an0nakin I did not! Paul (6’3”)in the Trekitt review (Inside Look: Fjallraven Skogso Padded Jacket) is wearing a large and the tall guy (6’5”) in the (Skogso Padded Jacket - 5 Reasons why - Seaport) is wearing a large. I tried the XL on a long time ago and made a note it was a good fit at the time in a T shirt but I’ve gained a few lbs since then, because of the “slim” fit of the jacket I’m not sure if XXL would make it more of a regular fit or what. 180 is a great deal, 220 was the lowest I’d seen the jacket in Canada but wasn’t in a position to act on it. I instead went with a mid weight insulation layer (Rab Xenair Alpine) which has 100g/m fill in the body and 80g fill in the arms, and the Fjallraven Kaipak jacket (XL) as a shell so I can use either in other weather more versatile than a dedicated parka but that’s my dominant use case to have more variety I totally get when you need an actual brick house of a parka. TLDR, I didn’t get this jacket, it looks great, just concerned with how work with the slim cut and how I actually want the garment to fit

    Great question - what I mean is that it’s not a technical trekking jacket. You can go for walks, but I wouldn’t go backpacking with it. Mainly lack of ventilation zips on the sides. I do use it for skiing - not ideal but I didn’t want to get a new jacket for that 😉 I’ve used in the rain quite a few times, it will get wet, I would stay dry. The synthetic insulation will keep you dry, but there’s no waterproof membrane so it will have it limits. Maybe look at the Nuuk Parka (formerly Yupik parka). I’d also recommend contacting the Fjallraven Brand center in Amsterdam - see how they can help you find and try the right jacket.

    Warm is subjective but I’m fine using it around 0 degrees walking around. I’d say it’s more of a city jacket and a stroll around the park / woods. I’d not get this as an active jacket. It’s a bit too long for active biking in my option too. Greenland winter is less warm. Just a teddy fleece lining. You might want to look at Keb range and then use different jackets to layer according to activity. I like using Keb eco shell with a ticker base layer and a soft shell. While skiing through northern Sweden I was just wearing Varmland base layer and EcoShell jacket and it was up to -20 but I was very active.

This jacket is a little roomy on purpose but that's a good thing because then you don't feel so boxed in when you wear a hoodie or something underneath. When you size down with this jacket you start losing room near your shoulders and neck, in my opinion it then gets uncomfortable when zipping the jacket all the way up.

    I don’t think there’s any Greenland Padded Jacket. There’s Winder and No.1 Down. The winter version is not as warm so would choose the other two. These jackets are more “lifestyle” so not technical and don’t have underarm ventilation like Keb. That should not stop you from using it on walks but keep its limitations in mind. If you are going to be more active in it and sweat perhaps - then synthetic jacket is much easier to wash compared to down.
