Nice tips Rob ! I am usually cold when I am outdoors in the evenings but I will try to use this bottle with hot water in my sleeping bag ! That would keep my feet warm 😇🤞🏼 My ways to keep warm - wear my teddy fleece and cuddle with my husband 😅

That's a great question. Aside from the ones you mentioned, here are three things I absolutely love. • In the winter, I appreciate rugged gear. I don't want to baby my gear. That's why I can accept the Icelender wool sweater, which is slightly heavier. My fleece looks like Swiss cheese after sitting close to a fire, while my UL down jacket faint at any challenge. Contrary, my wool sweater is indestructible no matter how much I abuse it. A reliable companion. • Camp fire. Nothing compares to the warmth of a fire when hell freezes over around you. Throw some meat on a log and eat it with a beer on the side. 😋 You don't need an axe, saw, or lapland knife, but it can help. • Synthetic sleeping bag, and allow powdery snow to engulf your bag. The airy snow will help insulate you. No reason to get a bivy, tarp, or tent. The most amazing feeling is waking up to white snow 360° around you, and all the stars of the milky way above you. Magical.

Oh wow so you sleep outside in the synthetic bag? Which one are you using? Must be big or not?

@@OutdoorPrep As long as the snow is powdery and fluffy, then any synthetic bag works for me, although yeah, the big bags works the best.

I 2nd your suggestion about Buff Headgear. It can be configured into a full-face Balaclava B4 crawling into your sleeping bag. I 2nd your suggestion about hand warmers. I turn 2 thumbs down on chemical foot warmers & hot water bottles in preference to Down Filled booties. Down-filled Booties - I bought & wear Goosefeet 100%overfill Down Booties inside my sleeping bag. I slip a pair of Goosefeet overbooties over the Down Filled booties when I want a sole & want to walk around camp outside of my tent. I consider my Thermarest XTherm inflatable air mattress with its R6.9 insulating rating factor as important as my shelter & sleeping bag. The XTherm will keep MEeee insulated from cold ground better than any other inflatable air mattress. I'm surprise that you said nothing about an air mattress as being one of your 6 items to help keep from getting cold during wintertime.

These were “other gear items” - pads and bags will be in another video :) as for the down booties - they can be great indeed, but you can’t wear them in your normal hiking boots while still on the go. They also rely on your body to generate heat, but if your feet are cold, it can be tough to heat them up.

Rob, what do you use for a pee bottle? The smaller Nalgene? I know of someone who took an Ocean Spray cranberry juice bottle to Greenland and apparently it worked very well for this purpose.

That's too easy Thomas/ Of course the answer is Nalgene Wide Mouth Silo Bottle :D It's the larger version. You don't want to run out of space or mix them up accidentally :) I've looked at the Nalgene Folding bottle - that's also a popular choice, but it also has quite a few negative reviews about it leaking - you don't want that either... I haven't found a good, lightweight and packable solution yet so let me know if you have suggestions.
