Empire of Wargames

Hey, my name is Eplesh, and this is Empire of Wargames!

This is a channel covering interesting topics all around Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Kill Team & Warcry by Games Workshop. I am trying to build a helpful community no matter if you play casually, narratively, or competitively.

The armies I play and own are:
-40K: Space Marines (Silver Templars): 15K Points || Space Marines (Void Tridents) 5K Points || Necrons (OldCrons) 4K Points || Necrons (NewCrons) 10K Points || Drukhari 4K Points || Craftworlds 4K Points || T'au 5K Points || CSM 5K Points || Death Guard 5K Points || TS 2K Points || Tyranids 5K Points || Khorne Daemons 3K Points || Every Combat Patrol Box
-AoS: SCE 8K Points || SBG 5K Points || Lumineth 4K Points || Orruks 2K Points || StD 2K Points
-KT & Warcry: 10+ Warbands & Kill Teams between the two games!

Thanks so much for watching my videos, and supporting what I do, it means a lot!

    I would also suggest trying to find issues of the Imperium magazine with the Necrons stuff, because some of those are amazing deals at MSRP. Sure, buying three copies of issues with the wraiths or tomb blades is barely cheaper than just buying boxes of those, but if you can find an issue with the Royal Court, it's a stupidly amazing discount. I bought the Imperium issue with that set at the standard price, and even then I was still paying about a quarter of the cost I'd be paying if I ordered the Royal Court from GW.

    I always find it a challenge when building an army, when a crucial piece of it (either thematically or competitively) is clearly a model with a ticking clock. I for one really like the look of the old Nightbringer model, particularly in Finecast versus metal -- one of the very few that really benefitted from that change. And in its current size it's a $50 model versus the $150 that a Void Dragon would run you. And it would be one thing if we were anticipating a new model but knew our old ones would stay compatible! Warriors, Immortals, Lords can still be used with current rules. But I suppose that's how they keep us on our toes and stop us from ever feeling comfortable that our army is "complete".

    So season of war is doing a spearhead tournament. Of the 8 games so far, 5 wins for the player who started the 1st turn Thats like 60% vs 40% From everything ive seen, the Cards drawn on the 1st round make way more of a difference. Easy house rule that will help. In the 1st roumd player 1 can mulligan 1 card and player 2 can mulligan 2 cards.

    Appreciate your evaluation. I haven't been able to play yet, but I did watch quite a lot of battle reports, and I think what especially compounds the impact of the first turn that you described is the way the twist is handled. If the player that wins the twist roll-off gets a very beneficial twist that benefits only them (like rooting the opponent's cavalry unit; making the central objective easy to take & hold; maybe others) and maybe even also gets to go first, it feels like it can decide the entire game right there and then. What do you think about not having a twist for round 1, or limiting it to twists that let both players choose something (blood marked/objective each/etc)?

    To counter first turn charges, make use of screening units. If you can use a unit with reinforcement, the cavalry unit will spend its strength on a unit that will come back, allowing you to counter charge them and force them into a bad trade off .

  • @kahadin
    @kahadin6 күн бұрын

    Spearhead has surprised me and is incredibly fun. I think it's an amazing format in it's own right, so if you've ever thought that an AoS faction was cool, but you never wanted to commit to a full army, Spearheads would be an awesome way to have some minis and play with them. I did not mention this in the video, but you get two Spearheads in the new Skaventide box, and you get the book, terrain and mat required to play. So if you like Skaven and/or Stormcast, it might be worth considering. As always, thanks for watching!

    Since Combat Patrol is a standalone game and separated of 40k, those changes must not be adopted. This is what I have been told by my local GW store manager. Adding some new rules or changing values would just lead into an non supported Combat Patrol which has nothing to do with the original, we'll balanced system, provided by GW. I would never accept such a customized Combat Patrol as long as its not approved and officially supported by GW. Coz the you could also change any other Combat Patrol to your needs like adding all additional weapons, which are listed in the codex but doesn't appear in the Combat Patrol data cards. And that's the point: as long as GW does not explicit ALSO changes the values of the Combat Patrol d'ata sheets, listed in the current codex or in the separate available data cards of 10th edition, such an adaption and transfer of other rules is just cheating. Please don't get me wrong. This is NOT against you but it's the official statement what I have been told by the store manager.

    15:45 that's not what the FAQ says regarding leaders. You can only select calgar or celestine (or freely choose to allocate damage to the bodyguards in their unit) if they're not an attached unit, ie only calgar or victrix, not calgar, victrix, or the unit they're attached to. It still explicitly says in the leader rules that you can't allocate damage to a leader while its attached unit is alive. Your options are still limited and lots of people seem to be reading this wrong. Great news for calgar though because of his feel no pain, but still not as good as you've suggested

    Good summary, thank you. Though I gotta say: I don't understand why the Eliminator / Impulsor party bus is such a controversial issue. I thought it was a clever combo, though I never used it myself (don't own any Eliminators). It's not really a "that guy" play, like insisting that the Primaris Crusarers have two pistols. It's just an interesting side effect, how is it different than using the Uriel Ventris/Centurions/Vanguard spearhead combo? It wasn't that powerful anyway. If GW thought it was completely unintentional, they would have banned it in the first possible dataslate, instead of nerfing it through increasing the cost of Eliminators cost. I swear to God, Space Marine players turn into real crabs in a bucket over stuff like this, pulling each other down, instead of lifting up one another. "Nooo, don't use this combo, GW will nerf us even more!" "Divergent chapters shouldn't have fun and use codex detachments, make them use one playstyle forever because they painted their minis red!" "Black Templars are too strong, I hope GW nerfs them to bring them down to the rest of us!" It's really disturbing.

    @EmpireofWargames i don't remember seeing thi skind of video from you, so have you thought about making a video on chapter neutral space marine combat patrol boxes? I would love it more for gw to do that instead of the current system. They could pick different playstyles instead of a chapter, and the customer could pick up any chapter specific extras of their needs. That way you could pick from let's say phobos/heavy infantry/close combat oriented units to start with, without the unwanted upgrade sprue for a different chapter. Any ideas on that?

  • @AsgardMedic
    @AsgardMedic19 күн бұрын

    I started with this box as a new (wolves) player and it worth it - but can only be recommended if you want everything in the box / you can trade off what you don't need. The basic intercessors are strongly ok, their sticky rule is great, and battleline units might be more useful in pariah nexus , so bringing 2x5 intercessors is definitely on the menu. The lieutenant is a nice supporting character (wouldn't use him for 5 intercessors though), and you can proxy him for a captain anytime. The baby carrier is great for it's points but have to be careful with it as it's weaker than a dreadnought (also, can be proxied for a dreadnought). It has a nice damage output and can support phobos units if the situation is right. And the reivers... They are awesome models, but their rules are meh, and they miss AP, plus they are not cheap, unfortunately there is no reason to bring them instead of anything else - even as hounds of morkai(which might be great against psyker units once in a while). What i can advise getting next to this starter box is a box of infiltrators/incursors, and use the reiver bodies+heads to build 3 units of 5 infiltrators/incursors. That's how i should have built them at least So in short i'd recommend this box for new wolves players, not to anyone else unfortunately, and a second box can be useful if you want all the phobos units and have access to 3d printed parts to turn the second 10 intercessors to jump pack intercessors (and the second lieutenant to a jump pack chaplain/captain??)

Combat Patrol has been designed for a wide variety of players. Instead of building an army from a selection of datasheets and points values, your games will feature balanced but varied forces based on the Combat Patrol boxes you can find in stores.
