    Took a V6 emira out for a test drive yesterday. Absolutely exhilarating. The sound is intoxicating and the gearbox is fantastic. Have not driven a 718 GTS so cannot compare the two, but certainly am seriously considering the emira as my only car (I drive only on the weekend). Great review - you captured the experience really well.

    I run an '88 Lotus Excel and they were designed as daily cars. I know at least two people who ran them as company cars when new and one of them still has his. You could claim the same of the Elite/Eclat, but they don't have quite the same mechanical robustness of the Excel.

    The Emira is far superior to Coxster in many ways. Supercar looks, hydraulic steering, double wish bone suspension, a brand new interior vs 10year old car’s, much less common, etc. it is really appealing in those aspects. However, putting those specs aside, the Porsche is a more engaging and natural car for me

    I’m blessed to have a 718 Spyder, 718 Boxster GTS, and an Emira among others in my garage. The Emira looks gorgeous but if I had to sell one it would be the Emira.

    As others have mentioned - the AWD version still has the front boot. I took one out for several hours test drive one day and have one on the way, so checked for these things. The only differences between the two beyond the driven wheels are a slightly lower range in the higher power model, along with a HUD. Also, the indicator stalks have been "corrected" to the left for those arriving in the UK from early 2024. Also: I don't know what the case is with Apple Carplay, but Android Auto on my S23 Ultra was wireless when I took the car out 🙂

    Millions & millions of people live in houses or flats without anywhere to have their own private EV charger. When/if public chargers are installed en-masse there will still not be enough. There are many households who have 4 ICE cars (Mum, Dad, 2 teenagers) and none of their cars are worth more than £5k - and these people will each change to a £20k+ EV? Not on your Nellie.

    I still think I’d find myself sitting in the Lotus if I won £100,000 on a scratchcard tomorrow. The Boxster sure is a capable machine but I do find the stigma is still attached, at least for myself, my friends and my generation, who are nearing the big 4-0.

    Good review. It seems a decent suv, but think I'd prefer a bigger engine. As far as dogs go, mine never go in the boot, they travel on the back seat, with seat belts, where they're safer in the event of a rear end shunt. ;)

    How beautiful is that lotus though?…. It’s funny looking at the interior of that compared to my s2 Exige…. The lotus is just so special. I think all lotus need a little extra love but that’s where you build a relationship with it!

    Great review. Sold my 911 for a Cayman. Drove a Elise and sold the Cayman, for me it’s the drive. Almost bought a Emira but I am a biker so my daily Elise is practical enough. When I am old (im only 50s) and have to give up,porkers or Emira, maybe. Great insight thanks. Why not have special everyday, whilst you can. We live once, they are built to drive… Still we are all different.

    I see another "problem" with the Lotus : nowadays it belongs to a Chines company (Geely), so that means a big NO to me. Furthermore : I do like the motorsound of the Lotus, however if you drive longer journeys it will tire you out. As for styling : thumbs up for the Lotus. But I would always go for the Boxster...

    You didn’t appear to drive through any villages or built up areas ? All open road . I’m a renter and have 11 year old skoda fabia, petrol . I’m sure my landlord would let me install a home charger ,but , he could give me 2 months notice to move out ,even though I’m a good payer and never miss my rent . Home charging is essential for e.v. . If I did buy e.v. It would be used , seat mii, Hyundai ionic ,or Zoe . One with about 30 k miles would be ok . Enjoyed your video ,the roads where you live look like paradise .

    Here is my comment. I'd love a four banger Emira. Still, I'd want that four banger to be Toyota sourced too. A Toyota sourced four banger Emira could sell at around $45-50K, just making it a couple of steps past the Miata, and when it delivered "the handling goods" (as Lotus does) it would sell. It would sell WELL. Mazda didn't make a mint selling an Elan inspired vehicle by appealing to "the crust of the pie". They made a mint by selling an Elan inspired vehicle to the "meat" of the pie. Pie crust is very thin. Lotus just needs to decide to take over the lightweight roadster market, buy/build another facility or two and proclaim the roadster market "theirs". The only "real" competitor for that market at this time is Mazda with the Miata. Lotus just needs to learn to climb a challenging mountain that can be hard earned but obtained, not K2 or Baintha Brakk.

    This whole video made me think about how poor it is to drive an EV, and that’s from an EV owner…..by the way I’m the bloke you can’t understand, I hated my Boxster albeit a 981 base PDK car, I’ve also driven just about every 718 and the four cylinder cars were even worse. After owning a Lotus Elise I can also say I’d be taking the Emira every time.

  • @G58
    @G5815 сағат бұрын

    You begin by claiming that the media is responsible for the scare stories. However, the mainstream media is actually one of the biggest pushers of this WEF EV nonsense. It is in fact real life experience of owning these things that is informing those of us who are paying attention. Example: Porsche Taykan: £120,000 new. After 3 years it’s only worth £30,000. That’s £90,000 depreciation!! And the dealer that sold the car won’t take it back in part exchange on a 911! So the life of the battery is academic. Tesla has dropped their prices, and just fired 10% of its workforce, and their stock price has tanked. China is flooding the UK market with cheap EVs, and several western motor manufacturers are getting out of EVs. Insurance rates for EVs are going up due to the fire issues and the excessive repair costs. Finally, the advice to maintain an EV battery between 80% and 20% needs to be expressed in honest terms. Specifically, the true effective range (to maintain a healthy battery) is actually 60% of the total range - which is always considerably less than the advertised range. Caveat: I seriously considered converting my 1999 SAAB 93 to EV. Reason? Tax is £325, and I’m only getting 20mpg. After a lot of research I decided it’s a horrible idea. Only a delusional virtue signalling St. Greta devotee would ever ruin real cars by turning them into EVs. And there’s probably a special place in hell for all those that do commit such crimes. This EV cult experiment is going to fail, and it will fail in some very spectacular ways.

    Those cobalt commenters conveniently forget they are now helping keep children working in the Congo to remove the sulfur from their fossil fuels and has been for decades now possibly since they started removing sulfur. Those stalks are perfect, the norm in Australia, but have experienced the opposite and turned on the wipers when turning. The glass roof is also silver coated which reduces the temp very well as tested by a KZreadr here in Australia comparing to his Model Y which came out the worse vs the Seal glass roof for temp reduction. I much prefer the Wh/km which my classic Ioniq I had set for after watching Bjorn as that is what the Tesla does. Love the Seal, if I could have two EV's the Seal RWD would be it but being a single parent only one car household.

    Great piece of film Ped. I just do not get the Lotus. For me no comparison on every level to your Porsche other than engine sound. If I was after such a machine I would want the space and practicality and quality of the Porsche. Honestly I think Lotus blinkered purists will buy it, but it will not shift bums from any other competitors seats. I try to love Lotus the brand, I know they make some great handling machines. But I just see cheap quality for big money. They are still off the mark in my opinion. But I wish the brand all the best. The automotive world would be a sadder les vibrant place without them.

    Peter….all very interesting and a fair review. Sadly this will soon be a very popular car because of that pricing and because it is likely to be very good as a family EV car. What concerns me though is that we face the destruction of European manufacturing and all of the linked production capability we have. People will go for the shiny bauble but think longer term….they have families and by accepting everything made overseas, it is sapping our strength very rapidly. As I said, I’m not buying one for that reason…even though nearly everything I buy seems to be made in China…it is already unavoidable and the domination of production by any one Country is not a good thing. A good video Peter…they will sell in huge numbers very soon. 😬😬😄🫢
