All modern cars have reinforced lift points on each end of the sills. These are where a factory tyre changing jack will be placed, but also where the 4 lift pads of a 2 post would be placed for lifting the vehicle to a working hight during maintenance.

Good morning from Tennessee. I’m currently sitting in line waiting to load a load of ethanol for Shell. Of the three cars that my family and I own only one has a jack and a spare. The other two do not have a jack or a spare. We have a Subaru (has the jack and spare), a Kia, and a Acura. Pete hope you get to feeling better soon.

I have a jack and skinny spare. Should be mandatory. Never mind all the electronic safety equipment. I heard on Canadian KZread channel that EuroNCAP is going to start deducting points for lack of hard buttons. Hopefully we'll see less screens. Have a great trip. Had a similar problem with my B200, it had plastic sills. Stopped at a tyre place as the shiny metal valve cap had rusted in situ - road salt I presume - they were going to remove the complete valve and fit a new one. They stuck the trolley jack underneath but had missed the jacking point. As they started to lift the sill bulged, I shouted like you and got them to drop it down, then left. Trust goes right out of the window when stupid starts!! Get better soon, lots of good stuff to do for us!! New format is good, more time to talk and less babbling fast to fit it in - that's a pet hate of mine. They've started doing it in adverts on both radio and TV, where they talk at such a pace you can't keep up and absorb the detail. That's probably intentional because on some they're babbling through T's and C's!! It's also the reason why, although I love Martin Lewis, I hate his TV show because he sprints through his words so much you only get 50% of his content.

Both my cars have a jack and a space saver (XC70 and Fiat 500) in the boot and they have both been used on more than one occasion. And with the pot holes issue in the UK now everyone should have a spare. Last March I took out a tyre in the rain at night in the Lake District with a six foot long foot deep crevasse that was invisible dues to standing water. Without the jack and wheel I'd have been there for hours. In fact yesterday I changed all 4 wheels on the Fiat as it needs two new rear tyres so I move the fronts to the back and will put the ew ones on the front. I also just bought an 12v scissor jack for home use that was £40 odd from Amazon - saves a lot of knuckle skin!

I do as of today I do , had a blowout a couple of weeks ago middle of the night so had to wait 3 hours for recovery have now got spare wheel , tyre and full tool kit they are going in the Octavia in the morning

Only one of our 3 cars has a jack and spare and it’s somewhere in the garage. Great seal interpretation!

Hi Ped Good to see you on the mend. Spare wheel & Jack, yes for both daily drives and yes for Mrs P’s beloved 1929 Austin 7 Chummy. A must have in our household, after suffering puncture with Porsche Carrera 4 S in France at 10.00 pm leaving restaurant on national holiday. No spare wheel and six miles back to chateau 🤐 and no local services. Managed to drive back very slowly, destroyed the tire, but did not damage the rim. It took 6 days for Porsche Assistance to sort that one out. (Long story)😥

X5 and M4 no jacks or spare wheels, but i do have a trolly jack which comes in very handy. Have a great trip to Japan.

Hi Pete. Mini cooper S R52 came with Runflats😮No spare but came with a scissor jack . Of course the first thing I did, fitted Michelin Pilot Sports . Wife's 2015 Focus Spare wheel and jack

Sorry to hear you're feeling rough mate. You look fine. On the other hand, I look awful, but feel fine! Jack in the back? Yep, first thing I checked my Astra estate for was spare wheel, jack and tools. Oh and could I fit something big in it. Yes I took a 3mtr glider with me (in sections) up to Huddersfield area. And a regular diet, including healthy stuff like turmeric, garlic, and plenty of greens and other veggies and lots of fruit, that'll keep you feeling more finer than not! 😁👍

Hopefully the next southern podcast wont clash with appointments and the M25 closure. My SQ2 didnt come with a spare or jack, after 1 flat and having to use the tyre gloop and struggling to get home I quickly bought a space saver and jack

Get well soon. My 16 year old Golf has the spare wheel of shame, space saver. Jack and tools included. Mums 25 year old Subaru has 4 alloys But the spare is a full size steel wheel. Jack and tools included. It also has a cassette player! Prices for used cars down under are keeping us in our older cars. I make sure to maintain both. New cars are hard to come by. I don't think I have a jack in either of my cars but I do have a trolley jack at home but it is rated at 2 tons and my i-Pace is over that so I will not be changing a tyre on that. I guess I will need to call Jaguar Assistance again!!!

Another great 180. Its Friday now, yep me again in the Broom Wagon. By now I'm sure you're healthy again. This weeks question! Huge issue. Opens up a whole debate for me. No. I don't have a jack or a spare wheel. Why because I specifically ordered the car without it. I've not had many flats in 45 years, In fact only two or three. But my last one was in year 2003. I was driving a year old BMW 320d touring. Car was fitted with large alloy wheels and I had space saver. I jacked the car up on its spindly Jack, but could I remove the wheel? No chance, I ended up sitting on the road kicking the wheel off. Having put the space saver on, I discovered I had nowhere to store my large alloy. BMW had left me with three possible options: leave my alloy on side of road, or leave all my boot/cargo area, floor etc. Luckily for me I only had my wife with me and no luggage so was able to drop rear seats to put the wheel in the boot. So, since 2003 wheels have got bigger and cars heavier. I really question the value of having a jack or spare. Better to use recovery service and or inflation/repair pumps. Sorry for long response. Enjoy Japan.

Sadly No Jack or spare wheel & no warning triangle too upon my Lexus UX 250 & F-Sport edition vehicle 🚗 .

I have a jack and a spare wheel. Odd these days! Its a Skoda - obviously

Spare wheels & jacks ....... a must have if going any distance Pete. So many cars now come with a rubbish inflation kit or RFTs & it is therefore assumed you do not need to jack the car up as you won't be changing the wheel (rubbish, i have done pads & discs myself on numerous cars.... you need a jack). Inflation kits are only of use for minor, small, slow punctures & they mess up the inside of the tyre, rendering proper repair difficult! RFTs are not suitable for all vehicles! A space saver & a jack will always be a "useable" solution. My wife's current car came with the inflation kit but there was room under the boot floor for a spare... I bought a s/s wheel & jack/brace in a plastic wheel insert all as a kit.... job sorted. I have now sourced these for family & friends who thought it was the best solution for a Renault, Peugeot & Nissan. I even sourced a VW Passat kit for my TTRS. Since getting the M3 which is inflation kit again (M cars don't get RFTs) I have had to source a spare kit (BMW don't have one to suite). I got a bespoke one from "Netvans", it came from Italy & it is brilliant.... in a carry bag, with a jack & brace & it is designed to sit level with the outer edge of the arch (not inboard as usual). As there is no under floor storage it goes in the boot with everything on top, plenty of room, no bother. Travelling any distance in the pot hole infested UK without a spare is Russian roulette time! Hope you enjoy Tokyo... can't wait to see that content 👍🏻

Do I have a jack? No, and found out the hard way - was in Scotland last October and went through a puddle after which there was a horrible grinding noise from underneath the car. Pulled in, and saw it was one of the underbody plastic protection panels which had come astray, so thought I'll jack the car and see if i can pop it back up, at which point I found no jack! Had the vehicle recovered, the panel was sliced (since replaced) and 3 hours after that saga started we were on our way again. Next car I get, I'll check beforehand.

Hi Ped, Just one piece of advice about jacking your car. Please people, don’t try to do it on the hard shoulder of any motorway - get your recovery service to do this for you! Hard shoulders are really dangerous places and the wonderful recovery chaps and chappesses have the benefit of a big shiny amber beacon lit truck to protect themselves. I have lost count of the number times I see folk putting themselves in danger attempting to change tyres at the side of a motorway…

No jack, no spare wheel, tyre inflation kit which is probably useless.

Yes jacks in both cars, mind you they are a bit old now

As a point of interest your videos are always well made and informative - I always call the good stuff “Discovery Level TV” (and not the JLR product). But have you seen the shouty man fruitcake who had one of these for a while? He was truly loud tv gone wrong. A mesmerising car crash of an annoying presenter. Long story short - if ever I wanted an electric car watching him was enough to make me run a mile. You must have a look, truly terrifying viewing. Keep up the balanced, calm presentation 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏👏

Have a Cupra Formentor PHEV with no jack, no wheel brace just one of those kits that fills the tyre with rubbish. Had to call the AA out who plugged the hole, re-inflated the tyre so I could go get it repaired. Didn’t, as not repairable so go a new tyre.😩😩😩😩
