Ultimate Speed Machine: 390kg Hyper Racer X1 in Heavy Rain! | 4K
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Driving the Hyper Racer X1 is as close to driving an F1 car as most people will get. It weights just 390kg and has a 200 horsepower Hyabusa bike engine with 6 speed sequential gearbox. The most striking element to the Hyper Racer X1 is the full ground effect aero package.
I got to test the Hyper Racer X1 at Silverstone in the pouring rain. It gave me a real appreciation of visibility levels during a we F1 race. The tricky thing was getting your head around going faster when you were lacking in grip !

This is far more relatable and exciting than Formula 1! I would adore having a go at this! That suspension system with a single shock working with two wheels is the most fascinating technical aspect of this car. An absolutely mega video, Mr. Ped! Aloha!

@@alancollard8939 Good to know! I would never have guessed on my own. One hears about getting too much heat and too much cavitation in oil shocks. I don't know what happens with gas shocks. This leads me to wonder if those single dampers are oil- or gas-filled. I wonder, too, if the weight of this car is not too much for its particular arrangement of shocks. Never a dull moment in this engineering job, I'd say. Given that...more laps on the track are in order to fully test it!🤣🤣
Can't wait to start seeing more and more of these show up on the US circuits! Would really love to see a street legal two seater come out as well.

Me and the girlfriend saw this at brands hatch a few weeks ago at a track day, and it's a stunning piece of kit and was lucky to chat with the owner about it too. Hope he gets more interest in the car and gets a series going.

@PetrolPed

Oh yes 🙌
Going faster also helps reduce the entry understeer due to the increased drag a higher speed causes, which then gives you more trail braking without the brakes, producing the desire forward weight transfer needed to reduce the understeer as well as freeing up more of the tyres grip for cornering (thereby increasing the speed carrying potential of the car) thanks to the reduced need for trail braking by the brakes.
Mega intro mate, even made you look cool! 😎❤️ Get him on the payroll! 😜

You keep saying that the engine is completely standard, but wouldn't its oiling system need to be modified in order to cope with the lateral g-forces? Add a dry-sump system, perhaps?

So how much are those formula Ford looking cars that were passing you with ease one after tother? 😕
@PetrolPed

Being driven by drivers currently racing in Formula Ford. It was my first time in the car !!
@robertmerkel8247

These cars are a lot faster than Formula Fords (as you’d expect given the more powerful engine and the ground effect downforce). At the Winton circuit in Australia, the fastest time recorded in these things (not in a race, admittedly) was 1:16.8 compared to a Formula Ford lap record of 1:24.8. Incredibly fast given the low price.
Wanna see you drive this package in the dry!

Hi 👋
not a fuckimg mono shock car, i have been involved with mono shock cars for over twenty years , , they are a pain in the arse , it doesnt work like you want tt to, technically to roll stiff, could never get it to work like a twin shock , by the way bike engined cars have been around for years every thing from 600 cc to 1600 hyabusa,s , the 1300 is way more reliable than a 1600 , so thats something
@HyperRacerX1
Ай бұрын
Hi Alan. Thank you for taking an interest in the Hyper Racer. On the subject of mono, shocks there are many advantages to incorporating a mono shock/damper system in a race car. You might be aware that Dallara used a (front) mono-shock/damper design with mind-blowing success with their F3 cars in the 90’s and on. The real surprise for some is that the Hyper Racer also has a mono shock/damper in the rear. How could that work? Unfortunately we can’t share our design secrets, but it’s worth mentioning that on handling circuits in Australia we are breaking outright lap records set by similarly and often much more powerful race cars. Cheers Jon Crooke - Design Director - Hyper Racer.
@alancollard8939

@@HyperRacerX1 hi jon , yes i remember the dallara , also the van dieman , i was working at chevron in the 90 , s when we tried a mono shock front and rear on a formula ford , later years i raced a vector ff with a front mono shock , could never get the car to stop killing the front tyres , tried countless different shuttle spring /bump rubbers but the shuttle system effectively makes for a live front axle so if you get camber gain on one side , you lose it on the other, roll was virtually nil only the shuttle movement , before it ran into full stiff, now if you have thought up another way off allowing limited roll , i did investigate using twisted blade torsion bars to change the shuttle movement , but there was never enough time , the chevron we built had a rear mono which made it oversteer due to its roll resistance, we changed it to two shox at the rear which stopped that problem , but we gave up on the mono shox idea , like a fool i though it may still work hence playing with the vector
Car doesn't look very safe. Roll bars are not above your head to protect you in a flip. Too close to your head, to give you a head injury in a side impact. If people don't think that kind of stuff through, makes me question the other things they're missing.
@PetrolPed
Ай бұрын
Roll over and head protection is actually very good. Similar to a halo in F1. Ultimately it passes the necessary approvals to go racing.
@WyFoster

@@PetrolPed I'm not blind. 13:02 Your head is literally above the roll bars.

Well spotted Wyatt. You will be pleased to know that the Hyper Racer comes in standard and high roll-bar spec. The test car was a standard model for drivers up to 6"1". Peter is a very very tall man and would order the high spec version, suitable for drivers up to 6'5', if he were to buy an X1.
@oliverhulme9451
Ай бұрын
The car has been designed with safety in mind. It car conforms to MSA Bluebook roll hoop regulations (Appendix 2 drawing number 19.17) and has been passed by UK and Australian scrutineers to race, something that would not happen if it did not meet the safety standards. If you look at circa 45 seconds onwards, you can see that the main roll hoop is well above petrol peds head and has the clearance to the front roll structure in front of the steering wheel. The Henry bars are there to protect against frontal head impact from loose debris (i.e. a tyre) - a cost effective solution to the Halo. They are not a requirement for the roll safety system but an additional safety feature. There is also the removable head restraint to protect on a side impact so your head cannot hit the Henry bars from any angle. the padding in this restraint absorbs the impact and cannot hit your helmet on the Henry bars. Motorsport is inherently dangerous so I refuse to scrimp on safety and would not race or sell these cars if the cars were not built to the latest safety specifications set out by Motorsport UK or the FIA. At 13:02, his head is above the Henry bars, not the roll hoop which protects you if you flip the car. Hope that gives some clarity. we welcome any inspection of the safety on the car and encourage it as, compared to many race cars out there, it is above and beyond what is required. Thanks for raising the issue to be addressed.
@WyFoster

@@oliverhulme9451 Great, I would like to see the "Broomstick" test. The roll bar is above his head, but the nose of the car is low. Between the roll bar and the next point of contact should the car roll, that line looks like it will intercede through the driver's head. Meaning, the driver is still susceptible to being crushed in a roll over. A la 10:13, top of the roll hoop to the next point of contact right Infront of the steering wheel, does that line intersect the driver's head. With the driver in the video, it would appear to do so. Meaning, he is not protected in a roll over. A shorter driver might be fine. Raising this question with your best interest at heart. Thank you.
meh, gosh this channel now 😢
Thats how it should be, no electric engines at all, electric engines should ONLY be used in hair dryers, washing machines and other home appliencies
