We all have a back road hero. That one vehicle that tempts us away from the highway onto the back roads. As well as being a 'content creator', I'm a true petrol head, petrol nerd, occasional racing driver, and Airline Captain. After family, my life revolves around meeting like minded people and restoring, driving, buying and selling cars. Life's too short to drive something boring.

739 for a set of MPS4S? Where from?
Black Circles. It was a little while ago and i paid a friend with a machine to fit them. Currently a set of MPS4S is £1151.78. Looks like a 55% increase! 295/30R19 and 255/35R19 Ed
Which is better the 3.0 without supercharger or 3.0 without supercharger petrol
Sorry but I’ve only driven the 3.0 Turbo Diesel. Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero i mean from your experience and knowledge which is better
Sounds brilliant to me, that’s not much trouble these days, you have a beautiful well set up car, looks sounds and goes well, and with knobs and buttons, no OTT on set up like so many are, sadly English drivers think back decades to an Alfa Sud, which wasn’t designed for U.K. winter roads full of salt, keep it and enjoy it!!!
Another cracking video Ed! Love this car. We have similar taste in cars btw. “Are they going to stab you while you’re sleeping?” 😂😂😂
Thanks John. No recent content on it but it needs an alternator (or regulator). Just need the time to get it sorted. Ed
Great video my friend. Starting to look for an early XK now. The base 4.2 will do me!
They represent massive value. Just buy on condition and history.
I do wonder how it will fare after the warranty expires. With such long service Intervals. I dont think you can get a better sounding 6 cylinder car with 4 doors than this. But thats still a ferrari engine and i worry about the day it craps itself
The intervals are 9000 miles and one year. Aux belt every 4 years. I thought they were quite short. Ed
Thx for thé vidéo. I have a RS3 Sportback and would liké to change before my government forces me into electric ... 1) BMW M3 Competition facelift (LCI) 2) Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifolio facelift 3) Audi RS5 Compétition At this Time, alfa is the n°1 choice in my mind. Daily use, hurry dad 😎🍾
I have a Giulietta QV, I wish I could afford a Giulia QV which in my opinion, is the best and most gorgeous car in that category.
Very helpful video my Range Rover code is P0105-16 and P040D-00 . I will contact them to get fixed my Range Rover. 👍👍
Picking my Quad up on Wednesday! Massive thank you for these informative vids over the years!
Best of luck with it. Hopefully there will be many more years of videos to come. Ed
your insurance experience does not line up with mine in the USA 😬
My renewal is due in June. I expect it to be much more this year. Ed
Cars and Bids- Doug DeMuro says the 2001 740i sport is the GOAT..
That’s good to know. Mine is a pre facelift but the engine is the same. Ed
Trash car
Agreed. But only down to software and the support.
Please do the videos always great content
Thank you. Ed
Loved my xf until both turbos went . Had to replace both lower arms twice in 3 years and of course the dpf went . Other than that it was a fast cool car a mile eater for sure .
They all need a little TLC sometimes. They are great though. Ed
Another episode to keep us in suspension, sorry couldn't resist, coil conversion? I know most will say it's sacrilege to rid it of the air ride, but behind every coil conversion is a frustrated owner with an empty wallet
I’ve an update on that in a new video. 😁👍
The fact that you have to take apart, half the car for the serpentine belt is stupid and very expensive. And they require it too often.
That’s the official line but the specialists seem to be able to get enough room without removing the front end. Ed
Lovely cars these, if I was to buy one I'd probably go for a Veloce as that's a bit more within my budget whilst still retaining a lot of the characteristics of the more powerful one. Good call on keeping it for the long haul.
How does the engine feel when it’s running on 3 cilinders? Does it feel like it’s running rough or misfiring?
You can’t actually tell the difference. Only through the consumption gauge. Moves to about 50mpg. It’s only on light load so the moment you put your foot down it’s back to normal. Ed
Mine is now 17 years old, passed its mot needing nothing, had an engine service and had one ride height sensor on suspension last year. One of the most reliable cars I’ve ever owned so far. Mine is the TDV8 engine tho
Good to hear. This is also the TDV8. The 4.4. Yours must be the 3.6? Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero yes it is, hideously bad on fuel but runs like a sewing machine
Not depreciating?! If I remember right you paid some 16k for the car, it's probably worth 10-12 now
I meant that it’s not losing anything from this point forward. The curve is now flat. Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero the slightly older 3.6 is now going for 5-6k. These certainly aren't at the bottom of their depreciation! Especially with ulez and cost of living. I think you've got 5k to loose in the next 18 months or so - 250 a month maybe.
Fair enough but it didn’t actually cost me anything.
It’s a known fact that Land Rovers and Range Rovers can often fix themselves. Seen it many times personally 😊
Long may it continue. 👍
A rangey fixing itself lol 🤔
Like I said, a miracle! 😂
Good to see you, Sir.
Thank you. Ed
2 months in 3.5k miles later and I’m in love 😍. Averaging 36mpg and of course when you choose to release the 500 stallions it’s a weapon. Thanks for sharing great review 🥇
Glad to see someone else seeing the MPG figures. Nobody seems to believe me here. 😂😂😂 Ed
Go buy a 2024 Giulia Quadrifoglio with the new diff!
Funny you should say that I was looking at a 2022 in Montreal Verde but can’t pull the trigger for the almost £30k it would take me to change. Ed
its pretty nice price for 3 years, i saw the video about bmw m4 f82 and 1 year owning bmw costs 3,000 pounds so its not bad actually.
Not at all considering most of the cost was just general running costs. Ed
Great presentation and tribute to your F in L. He had great taste in cars that Jag in the nicest colour combo has to be a keeper.
Thanks. Unfortunately it’s now sold. Ed
Very nice intro to the XF. I have a 2010 3.0 Portfolio S and love the car. I bought it 2017 with 44000 miles on the clock (It now has 76000) The only problems I have had are replacing both front window regulators and a rear door lock module, other than that just the usual consumables (tyres not cheap. (20s all round with 285s on the rear and 255s on the front), discs and pads etc). I just had the cambelt done, and none of the garages around me would touch the car, had to go to the main Jaguar dealer to get the job done (£1600, wow...) Would I change the car? yes I would (if it becomes a write off) but only for a XJ. Love the car it's a beast with good old grandad comforts
I have to say I’d love an XJ as well. 😁 Ed
The car’s designer totally ruined the look with his silver vertical vent on the side of the car, it looks hideous! Shame!
Ian Callum knows a thing or two about design. It’s all subjective. Personally I love it.
Great video and appreciate your honesty regarding the Alfa , you have made me choose this car over the F80 M3, M4 and the 500GT Mustang. So a big thank you , I can't wait to get one now which should be in the next couple of months.
You’ll make memories with this one. Ed
Love your channel…but with your love of this fantastic car…….can’t believe you have got a EV….🤦♂️
It’s a tax break. Don’t worry. I haven’t gone to the ‘dark side’. 😂👍
No idea who you are but your vlogs are great.JUst about to buy an XF 3.0 D so thanks.
You’re very welcome. Ed
It is something that we have never seen beforfe...it is simply a SUPER CAR that you can drive everyday....I mean the Germans are still trying to break its NURBURGRING record which is now 8 years OLD! Simply put... you are DRIVING HISTORY My friend... enjoy my fellow ALFISTA!
That's pretty reasonable, what's the depreciation?
I paid £41k in 2000. Probably about £32k realistically now. So not too bad. Since I bought it as a 3 year old car.
My grandad had one during WW2. The most memorable thing for me was the smell of leather and thin twist tobacco ( my grandad's smoke!!).
I’d love to afford an Alfa q as a 2nd car.
It was my daily driver for 3 years. I inherited my Range Rover.
The only reviewer to cover this subject. Clearly an intelligent man. Thankfully. A relaxing watch but would be much better over a pint 🍺 with him. Thank you pal 👍
Thank you. I do try to do my own research and come up with something new. Ed
Just loved your lessons for life at the end of the video - As I said in an earlier posting, I am dying from Terminal caner. I accepted a bike challenge ride from London to Bruges in Belgium. I was told to old and many other things - this is what pushed me on to get their. I was the oldest on the ride but not the last to finish by a long way. We raised money for the same cause. Thanks again for a great video
Good for you John. We have to accept challenges in life. Ed
Wonderful - well done. I have Terminal Cancer and what you have done today has fully restored my faith in society. I bought this RR TDIV8 6 weeks ago. I had always wanted one and this is part of my bucket list. So far to date, it has exceeded expectations. (apart from two blown small hoses). So thanks again, great video thank you
I hope it brings you fond memories John. So glad you enjoyed the video. Ed
Fantastic car Ed
Thanks Mike. It sure is. Ed
better than a hellcat
great review as always. Although, i love my sparco seats - it was an option that i was searching for on my QV, alongside yellow calipers, rosso tri-coat and HK sound system. The seats finish the car off nicely and take it closer to its racing roots imo. Also, contrary to other reviews, the seats are very comfortable and have driven in them for hours on the motorway without any issues.
Thanks. The carbon buckets are lovely. I was just stressing the point that the standard seats are good enough 99% of the time. They completely change the character of the car. But you do lose heating in the process. I have a race car already so mine will never be used on a track. Thanks for your comment as I’m sure that others will find it helpful. Ed
This chap knows his onions. Don’t bother looking at any other reviews. This review will save you hours of time. Well done 👍Sir. Quad Life 👌
Much appreciated! Ed
Love your reviews, just brilliant 💪💪💪
Much appreciated! Ed
Most unreliable car I have ever owned Never again
What went wrong please? It would be good to know. Ed
What happened PLEASE ? Regards.
@@Back_Road_Hero 2023 quadrifoglio $86k At a South Florida USA dealer for 3 month now with no answer why it doesn’t run Car stalls and looses power Dealer have not been able to fix Filed for lemon law
It’s probably something simple but electronic faults can be hard to diagnose. Hope you get it sorted either way. Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero Yes. Simple enough they can’t fix it. Car gave up at 2k miles. I have been with the car for 3 months. My first and last Alfa Romeo 😂
Hi Ed, nice to see you back with some nice Alfa content. I have to say the car thoroughly deserves its reputation as the best sports saloon ever made. I think Alfa have improved the programming for the brakes as my 2023 car doesn't have an issue coming to a fairly smooth stop.
Great video. Alfa Romeo lost to BMW and Mercedes in the last 50 years. With the current dynamics (with each gen to BMW and Mercedes looking same) Alfa Romeo should dominate in next decade and beyond if it can get the reliability and quality issues in order. They are great cars for car guys.
Great review sir, practical real world slice of heaven.
Been watching your videos. Can’t decide now on the 4.2 or the 5.0
Just buy on condition and history. Both are great cars. Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero thanks for the sound advice
