I was an infantryman in the Marine Corps from '95 to '99. Squad leaders and team leaders carried the PVS-7s. We loved them because they were "cutting edge" compared to the PVS-4s, which we still had in our inventory. Depth perception was an issue with them, but we trained around it, so it wasn't a major problem. I guess it was just what we knew at the time. Recently, I've been looking to pick up some night vision, and I'm definitely considering a PVS-7.

Just like anything, getting the hours in using your equipment in a training environment will more than make up for any deficiencies. PVS7's biggest drawback IMO is the lack of depth perception, which will come as no surprise to anyone who's used them. Aiming isn't as big an issue if your IR laser is zeroed because you can still get accurate rounds downrange (again, practice) without approaching the optic itself. Walking through the woods on a no lume night can absolutely be a pain in the ass, but again, practice. I used these things for years in the military, deployed to Iraq with them. Was I stoked when I finally got issued 14's? Hell yes! But the 7's were still being used by my privates as late as 2010 in Afghanistan, and we did just fine. 7's are the shit, in their own way. The user just needs to get hours under NOD to feel comfortable moving and shooting with them.

You do need a lot of metal machinery to do something like this ? Looks awesome and I want to gauge if I can give it a try and make something like this as well !

Gotta pretty used pvs 7 with a mount for $1,500 and my bump was $125. Overall just need to get comtacs for my walkers and then a battery/weight pack. Then my whole set up is sub $2k. I’m not complaining.

The many small innacuracies and lacking gear as well as completely incoherent period pieces being represented is what really brings it to another level

So I have a rock river mid length carry handle AR. I’m either debating putting a small micro tube style on the top directly or getting a quad rail and running my eotech far out in front of the carry handle. Eotechs are really good under nods it seems. I have an EXPS3. Think it would be doable with PVS7 for passive aiming or get a Holosun laser or something?

You could improve the design with having alternating layers of Kevlar and HDPE plastic sheet to help better absorb the impact of the bullet. Also using stronger and thicker steel helps obviously wherever you can afford to add thickness and making sure spalling can’t hit the wearer

You’re right, however I need it to stay within a certain weight constraint. I’d have loved to make it stronger, but I have to keep it within a certain parameter.

I run a red dot on top of an a4 carry handle and it's the perfect height to run passive night vision on my pvs-7 i need only tilt the rifle 15 degrees (i own a dbal anyways). (sounds very dumb i know, but im in love with her and she loves me and nothing will ever change that)

I'm surprised to see it perform that way. Like. What I thought. It's a goddamn steel helmet in 21th century with a plastic bag over it for a price of $220~. It's a not bad choice for mass mobilised troops during, f.e. a new World War, but not when it's a local conflict. At least it's not straight up SSh-38.

First time I saw the liner, I thought it was a DOT approved motorcycle helmet made to look like an SSH68. I had to see for myself how good/bad it held up, and I have to say I was very surprised at how good of a helmet it is.

i heard you say that if you could import another, you'd do some more tests. I've got a friend in Ukraine that might be able to help you if you're still after one I got a few things from him as well, including a Kolpak-20, 6B7-1M and 6B47 as well, though the latter 2 aren't able to exported anymore due to new export laws in Ukraine..

  • @Fairfax_kit

The only test I'd planned to do was the Ballistic test that I posted. Now that I've got 2 of them, I think I'm about wrapped up with the Kolpak. Thank you for the offer and thanks for watching.
